  1. >"Hey, Anon. Want to hang out tonight?"
  2. >It was an odd question considering since you arrived in Equestria, princess Luna hadn't seemed to take much interest in you
  3. >Even though you stayed in one of the many guest rooms of the Canterlot palace, you and her never seem to cross paths, despite the facts that you stay up into the wee hours of the morning.
  4. "Do you mind if I ask why?"
  5. >"Certainly not, Anonymous. It is just that being princess of the night is often a lonely duty for most of the citizens of Equestria sleep during this time. I simply ask that you would keep me company, seeing as how you appear to be nocturnal."
  6. >It made sense.
  7. >After all, she did try to overthrow Celestia in their duomonarchial rule simply because she felt the ponies didn't appreciate her.
  8. >You decide it would be in the best interest of everyone if you kept her entertained.
  9. "Okay then, princess. Sounds like fun."
  10. >Her wings extend, but she quickly detracts them, blushing intensely and smiling like an idiot.
  11. >She clears her throat after a short squeal and then finds it in herself to speak again.
  12. >"Thank you, Anonymous. It's been quite some time since we've spent some quality time with somepony else. Meet me in the royal tower shortly after the Mounties and we will begin the night of fun."
  13. >She happily trots off in the other direction.
  14. >A few hours pass.
  15. >This is usually the time that Luna rises the moon so you head up to the royal tower.
  16. >You walk up the long path of stairs until you reach the top.
  17. >As you enter the room you see game boards scattered across the floor.
  18. >Luna is on the balcony, her horn glowing, raising the moon.
  19. >As it slowly comes to rise into the sky the glow from her horn fades and it stands still.
  20. "Wow."
  21. >Luna turns around startled.
  22. >"Anonymous. You scarred me."
  23. "It's hard to believe you'd be scarred with magic like that."
  24. >You walk over to the balcony to get a better look of the sky.
  25. "You sure know how to make a night."
  26. >You can see her blushing as you turn your attention from the sky to Luna.
  27. >"Well I have been doing it for some time now."
  28. "You get it perfect everytime like this."
  29. >She blushes again.
  30. >"I try."
  31. >You both walk back into the tower.
  32. "So how should we start this glorious night off?"
  33. >She puts a hoof to her chin.
  34. >"Perhaps we should start with a game of skill?"
  35. "What did you have in mind?"
  36. >Chess.
  37. >You didn't know they had chess here.
  38. >Luckily you knew how to play unlike most uncivilized simpletons of your world.
  39. "We have that game where I come from, I think something familiar would be good to start off with."
  40. >She smiles.
  41. >"Very well, Anonymous. But I warn you, you may want to prepare to have your rear end handed to you."
  42. "Oh, contrar, it is you who must prepare yourself."
  43. >You both keep a friendly glare as Luna levitates the board in-between you both and sets the pieces into place.
  44. >You both sit on the floor and begin your game.
  45. >After a bit of silence with nothing but the occasional clack of a chess piece against the playing board to break the silence, you begin conversation.
  46. "Do you usually have your subjects keep you company during the night?"
  47. >"Not at all. They all need their sleep just as much as I need mine. I wouldn't dream of tearing a pony from their nightly escape from life. However, it is not to say that I do not often become lonely."
  48. "Can't you have some of the guards keep you company?"
  49. >"Alas, they have nothing but my protection in mind. They never want to entertain their princess. They want her to stay up in her tower where they can watch her carefully."
  50. >You make your next move.
  51. "Why me then?"
  52. >She straightens up a bit.
  53. >"Well, um... it is because... well, you seem to often stay up late and... I just thought, um... it would suit us both to enjoy somepony elses company."
  54. >Did you just make the Princess of the Night... nervous.
  55. >You decide to push this button a little further.
  56. "Are you sure it wasn't because you had an interest in me?"
  57. >She makes her next move.
  58. >"I don't think that's... exactly why...
  59. >Bingo
  60. "Checkmate."
  61. >She stops her rambling to look at the board.
  62. >Her jaw drops as she sees her king has been immobilized and his subject are unable to stop his capture.
  63. >"How... how did you?"
  64. "Just had to get you distracted."
  65. >You begin to move the pieces back to their starting positions.
  66. >"Well played Anonymous."
  67. >Her jaw has returned and she has started to give you a small smile of approval.
  68. >"Well played indeed."
  69. "So what should we move to next?"
  70. >You spend the next few hours playing other games, some similar to your world's and some new one's from Equestria.
  71. >Each time you bring up the "Why me?" question which leaves Luna in a stammering while you make your final move.
  72. >Eventually she gets tothe point where she's had enough.
  73. >"Seventeen games in a row!?"
  74. "I must be better at these pony games than I thought."
  75. >You give her a smirk.
  76. >"Well then, I do believe you have proved yourself a creature of intellect."
  77. "I wasn't the stupidest of my people, I'll leave it at that."
  78. >She gives you a chuckle.
  79. >You take the initiative and suggest your next activity.
  80. "Do you want to do some star gazing?"
  81. >You both stand up.
  82. >"You know, I don't think that has been something I have done in a long while. Let's"
  83. >You both walk back onto the balcony and lay on your backs.
  84. >"I have not cared to gaze at the cosmos since I was but a foal."
  85. "Why's that?"
  86. >"Well when you're princess of the night you come to take things, such as the night sky, for granted."
  87. "I could see that."
  88. >"Yet there is something about experiencing it with someone else that makes it a little more... worthwhile."
  89. >She shuffles close to you.
  90. >Now she finally has you blushing and nervous.
  91. >But you aren't complaining.
  92. >After all, how could you complain when you're stargazing with the best princess?
  93. >The way she cares for your precious night.
  94. >Her blue mane flowing perfectly.
  95. >She's just...
  96. "Perfect..."
  97. >"What's that, Anon?"
  98. >You just said that out loud and Luna heard.
  99. >You look over and she's smiling at you.
  100. "The, uh... the sky. It's perfect."
  101. >"Well I am glad you think so, Anon. Usually, arranging the stars is one of my duties that seem to often go unnoticed."
  102. >She didn't know you were talking about her.
  103. >That was close.
  104. >You both just stare at the stars a little longer until:
  105. >"Thank you for joining me out here, Anonymous. It often gets lonely out here by myself. I often entertain myself by entering the dreams of others, but nothing compares to conscience interaction with others. Especially someone like you."
  106. "Don't mention it."
  107. >"No, you have my sincerest thanks."
  108. >Before you know it she ambushed you with a peck on the cheek.
  109. >It happened quickly and now you're both fairly red in the cheeks.
  110. >"I'm... I'm sorry if I was a little..."
  111. >You cut her off by stealing a kiss from her.
  112. >Just as quickly as her's.
  113. >Then you both just smile at each other for a while.
  114. >You can't tell how long.
  115. >You just enjoy looking at your princess.
  116. >"You were right, by the way."
  117. "About what?"
  118. >"I did have something else in mind when I invited you to join me tonight.
  119. "Oh, really? I hadn't noticed."
  120. >She giggles.
  121. >"Perhaps I did make it a little obvious."
  122. >She takes your hand in her hooves.
  123. >"I just wanted to spend time with you."
  124. >After she says this the sun slowly begins rising.
  125. >"I hadn't realized it was this early."
  126. >You both get up.
  127. >"Would you like to watch the sunrise with me before bed?"
  128. "Nothing would make me happier."
  129. >So you both watch as the sun slowly rises.
  130. >Luna has been gradually lowering the moon as the night has progressed and now she hides it behind the horizon.
  131. >After this the sun is in full motion.
  132. >She yawns.
  133. "Bedtime?"
  134. >"Quite."
  135. "Same thing tomorrow night?"
  136. >"I wouldn't have it any other way."
  137.
