  1. >You would like to think of yourself as a tough, no-nonsense type of girl who can quickly make sense of a bad situation in a pinch
  2. >You'd like to imagine that you'd be really brave when it counts
  3. >You like to assume all this, but when the yellow pony showed up in your tree house, you were not ready
  4. >It was just a month ago that you were minding your own business and reading some great action hero comics in peace
  5. >Commander Ripgut was always your choice when it came to action
  6. >You had a rough day at school dealing with the usual politicking of the high-school hierarchy and needed some alone time to unwind
  7. >As you turned a page, a small voice caught your attention
  8. >You remember how angry you must have looked and how mean you must have sounded when you thought you had an intruder
  9. >The memories flit about your head this morning as you brush your teeth
  10. >You walk carefully to your room and check beside your bed for your pegasi friend
  11. "Mornin', Flutters."
  12. >"Oh, good morning, Anonymous. Did you sleep well?"
  13. "You know it. I am dying to get outside today. We should go for a run in the park and maybe a swim!"
  14. >Your little friend smiles halfheartedly at you
  15. >She's always a little nervous when you suggest something, but you eventually get her to warm up to the idea
  16. >"Well, so long as we don't try diving from the tree like last time..."
  17. "Hah! Not after breakin' my nose! I ain't stupid."
  18. >You roll your eyes playfully with her
  19. >"Oh, but what about your father?"
  20. "S'all clear! Bum's sleepin' off a hang-over. We can sneak out the backdoor, no problem."
  21. >Fluttershy mumbles something to herself and you pat her head
  22. "Don't worry, it'll be a lot of fun. Besides, I bet your wings need a good stretch."
  23. >"Oh, I guess that would be nice..."
  24. >You run a hand over her small wing and watch the feathers ruffle under your fingers
  25. >"A-Anon, stop..."
  26. >You chuckle as you pet her soft wing
  27. "A'right, lets get movin'."
  28. >You tug on Fluttershy's front leg and race to the door
  29. >Breaking out into the sunshine makes you happy as you leave your home behind
  30. >You take a light run as you stretch your legs down the paved road and look back to Fluttershy
  31. >As typical, your friend is falling back a little
  32. "Come on, Fluttershy! I know ya' can run faster than that!"
  33. >After a groan, you see Fluttershy racing towards
  34. >You always like watching her run for some reason
  35. >Maybe it's the sound of her hooves or maybe you think her protests are cute
  36. >Whatever it is, you like making her work a little harder
  37. >"Oh, OK, I'll try harder, Anon."
  38. >With little effort, Fluttershy is beside you
  39. >Her hooves tap with the rhythmic clopping you are accustomed to
  40. >It makes you smile a little as you look over to your friend
  41. "It's gonna be a lot of fun today. School's over for a little, we can spend a lot more time together!"
  42. >Fluttershy huffs between breaths
  43. >"That's lovely... Anon. But... you didn't go... to school... all the time... before."
  44. "I'd rather spend time with you! Not everyday I get such a cool friend."
  45. >Fluttershy blushes, either from her jog or your sweet words
  46. >"Thank you, Anonymous, but you're the kind one."
  47. >You chitchat a bit until the park comes into view
  48. >You look over the green grass and tall trees dotting the landscape and smile wildly as you dream of what to do first
  49. >A tire swing catches your attention and you look to Fluttershy
  50. "Lets have a go on that first! I could push ya' first, if ya' want?"
  51. >Fluttershy shakes her head for the moment
  52. >"T-that's alright, Anon, you go ahead and I'll push you."
  53. "Oh, come on, you aren't still worried I'll push you too high again? I said I was sorry."
  54. >"No, no, I insist."
  55. >You shrug and race to the large tire
  56. >With a leap and expert timing, you dive into the center and hold onto the outer rim
  57. >Fluttershy approaches you from behind and warns you she'll be starting
  58. >A small push sends you rocking in place
  59. >"How was that? Not too hard, right?"
  60. "It's OK, you can push it harder if you want."
  61. >With a small breath, your friend pushes with more strength
  62. >You swing a bit harder and cheer
  63. "Higher, Flutters! Higher!"
  64. >Fluttershy pushes her hooves harder this time and you move effortlessly through the sky
  65. >You laugh all the way and Fluttershy joins in with a few chuckles of her own
  66. >Touching down, you slide from the rubber tube and sit on the floor for a moment
  67. "That was awesome! You want to go next?"
  68. >"Ah, no thank you. How about we have a relaxing swim?"
  69. >Fluttershy gestures to the small pond and you nod approvingly
  70. >You begin rushing towards the pond as you discard your shirt and tighter your small shorts with the pull-string
  71. >Your shoes slip off just feet from the edge as you dive in carelessly
  72. >The world filters blue as you sink under the water and look up
  73. >Fluttershy stands near the edge and dips a hoof in before slowly walking into the water
  74. >You smile to yourself and decide to be the shark today
  75. >You watch her four legs kick to keep her afloat as Fluttershy wades about
  76. >With a strong kick, you propel yourself upward and burst from the water
  77. "Rarr! I am the vicious, pony-eating shark! I hunger!"
  78. >Fluttershy gasps quickly before returning a smile
  79. >"Oh no, not the pony-eating shark. Um, I better swim away before she gets me."
  80. >Fluttershy slowly paddles away from you before looking back
  81. >"I'm not going to fast, am I?"
  82. >You bounce your eyes and laugh
  83. >Another strong kick sends you sailing towards your would-be snack and you make chomping noises all the while
  84. >Fluttershy lets go a squeal of mild excitement and picks up her own pace
  85. "Haha! Run! Run! I hunger!"
  86. >"Oh my!"
  87. >You catch up to Fluttershy and, in your fit of hysteria, clamp your mouth onto one side of her cutie mark
  88. >Fluttershy lets out a shriek and suddenly flies from the water
  89. >You bob at the surface, laughing like a maniac
  90. >"Anonymous! Be careful! You play too rough sometimes."
  91. "I'm only foolin' with you! I didn't leave a mark, did I?
  92. >Fluttershy looks herself over before she nods to you
  93. >"No, but you startled me."
  94. "I'm sorry! I won't do it again, I promise!"
  95. >Fluttershy touches back down into the water and you let the water suspend you
  96. >You float happily about as Fluttershy nears you
  97. "We could just... hangout like this, if you want?"
  98. >"Oh, that would be lovely."
  99. >You laugh lightly at your friend
  100. >Sometime later, you drag yourself from the water and let your tired muscles rest on the bank
  101. >You look over your wrinkly hands and smile
  102. >Fluttershy is beside you in no time and you smile to her
  103. >"I found you shirt, Anon... do you want it?"
  104. >You look at your black t-shirt and cast it aside
  105. "The air's nice and I'm really wet still. Besides, no one's around today."
  106. >"Why do you wear all these clothes all the time?"
  107. >You stop and think for a moment
  108. "I don't know... it's what dad says is right... other people wear clothes. We just do it, I guess?"
  109. >"Where I come from, clothing is only for special occasions."
  110. "Yeah, but you're a pony. It's fine if you don't wear clothes... I never met a pony with clothes, myself."
  111. >Fluttershy lays back and the grass and rocks slightly
  112. "I think it's 'cause you got fur. I ain't got fur no where. See?"
  113. >You point to your petite frame
  114. >Fluttershy seems to turn from you as you stare at her
  115. >"I-I get it, Anon... so... so, you're nude like this?"
  116. "Nah, I got to take my pants off to be nude!"
  117. >You smile and slip a thumb into either side of your shorts
  118. >"P-Please don't..."
  119. >You twirl your shorts on your sides lightly and tease Fluttershy a bit more
  120. "We're both girls, right? I ain't got nothin' you never seen."
  121. >You remove your hands from your sides and Fluttershy sighs
  122. >Her face burns brightly as she turns back to you
  123. >You admit that you like teasing her, though you aren't sure why
  124. >The sun begins setting as the two of you dry off and Fluttershy looks like she has something to say
  125. >You look her over until she looks back to you
  126. "You look like ya' got something to say... what's up?"
  127. >"Oh, nothing... just, the sun reminds me of home. It doesn't set like it does here..."
  128. "I remember that. You got a princess back home, right? Super magic or something."
  129. >"Yes, Princess Celestia sets the sun and raises it everyday. She's the kindest and wisest princess in the whole land!"
  130. "Neat... well, you're the only magical pony I ever saw."
  131. >You snuggle up close to her and wrap a hand around her body
  132. "I'm glad you ended up in my tree house... Now, I don't tell just anybody this, but before you came around, life was kind'a boring."
  133. >Fluttershy smiles easily as you speak
  134. "Yeah, I don't have lots 'a friends. No one really wants to hang out..."
  135. >"It's fine, Anon. I think you're great... You kind of remind me of a friend back home."
  136. "Was she as -awesome- as me?"
  137. >Fluttershy looks you over and giggles
  138. >"Oh, I think you two would get along really well. She's probably even more competitive than you."
  139. >You nod your hand in serious thought
  140. "Well, you know... I don't have to stay here..."
  141. >"What about your father?"
  142. "What about him? No good lay-about! He don't even know I exist some days."
  143. >Fluttershy's face sinks a bit as the truth in your words catches on
  144. >"I am not even certain how I got here. If I figure out how to get home, I'd be sure to let you visit."
  145. "Are there lots of ponies like you?"
  146. >"I... I think so. I have a lot of wonderful friends."
  147. "Any friend of yours is a friend of mine!"
  148. >You hold Fluttershy a little tighter as you think about getting away from all of this
  149. >The sun drops under the horizon as you two talk
  150. >You gather up your clothes and dress quickly
  151. "Well, better head home... want to sleep in the tree house tonight? I still got s'mores up there from last night!"
  152. >"Sure, Anon..."
  153. "And we could tell spooky stories!"
  154. >"Um... not too spooky, OK?"
  155. >You nudge Fluttershy's rump with your own
  156. "OK, no spooky stories tonight. How about you tell me more about Equestria? I like hearing about all the cool stuff you do."
  157. >"Oh, it's not -that- cool. Mostly, I just tend to my little animal friends..."
  158. >Fluttershy mumbles something you can't quite understand
  159. "So, what's your friend's name who you think is like me?"
  160. >"Rainbow Dash. We've been friends since flight school."
  161. "Cool, flight school sounds awesome!"
  162. >"Oh... um, a little, but flying can be scary sometimes."
  163. >You hold her wing lightly
  164. "Was Rainbow Dash around for you?"
  165. >"Yes, almost always! She's just so nice to me. She even defended me from bullies."
  166. "She sounds brave! It must be nice to have friends like that..."
  167. >You imagine it for the moment before swallowing a lump in your throat
  168. >You could probably have friends like that too, they just have to learn that you are strong and do this from the front
  169. >A leader, you think, and they would admire you for being the best at everything!
  170. >You whisper to yourself
  171. "Yeah, that's how to make friends... it worked with her..."
  172. >"Hey, Anon? Who are you talking to?"
  173. >You snap back to reality
  174. "Uh, no one... myself! Just thinking out loud..."
  175. >You see your crummy house in the distance
  176. >The small house has a lot of weather damage on the outside from years of neglect
  177. >A pile of bottles glistens from an overfilled trash can
  178. >The roof dips to one side waiting for another good windstorm to tear it off once and for all
  179. >It is a dump, but you suppose it's your dump
  180. >You walk through a rickety, face with a busted lock and hinge and grant Fluttershy access to the backyard
  181. "I'll be right up, just go make yourself comfy."
  182. >She nods and flies up to the entrance
  183. >You feel a moment of jealousy wash over you
  184. >If you had wings, you could just fly away too
  185. >You take a moment to peer into the window and see a lump of person sitting on a couch
  186. >There he is again, just sitting around watching the TV and being useless
  187. >You bet he didn't even make dinner... again
  188. >A sigh escapes you as you think about Fluttershy's home
  189. >The world sounds green and the ponies sound so friendly
  190. >You bet ponies cook their daughter dinner every night and kiss them on the head before bed
  191. >Holding back frustrated feelings, you proceed up the rope ladder
  192. >You behold Fluttershy peaking from a window as you crawl over the ledge and onto the platform
  193. >"Is.. is your father awake?"
  194. "Who cares?"
  195. >You turn your face to one side
  196. >You care...
  197. >"Um... I made you a s'more... you know, in case you were hungry?"
  198. >You take the small plate from Fluttershy and admire the craftsmanship
  199. >It confounds you how accurately she makes these when she doesn't even have hands
  200. "Thanks... you're the best, Fluttershy."
  201. >She blushes a little before eating her own treat
  202. >You can't imagine s'mores for three nights in a row is healthy anymore, but you eat from the hunger of the day
  203. >You look over to Fluttershy and see a bit of chocolate is smeared over her face
  204. >With a smile, you quickly brush a finger over her cheek and clean it off in your mouth
  205. >"Than' oo'."
  206. "No prob'em."
  207. >You hold up your fingers in a circle with the last three pointing out and smile
  208. >Fluttershy presses her face close to your own and licks at your cheek
  209. >"Had a spo'd oo'."
  210. >You both giggle with your mouth's full of sticky marshmallow
  211. >The night burns on as you roll on your back next to you best friend in the whole world
  212. >You sigh as you look over to her
  213. >She just understands you so well and you don't think you could ever ask for more
  214. >Fluttershy yawns once before excusing herself and relaxes on her back
  215. >You take the opening to snuggle close to her
  216. >She doesn't seem to mind as you lay against her warm body
  217. >She smells like honeysuckles and clouds and you giggle lightly
  218. "Hey, Flutters..."
  219. >"Yes, Anon?"
  220. "I want to tell you something... but, it's a secret and you can't tell anyone, OK?"
  221. >"OK, I won't..."
  222. "You're like the best sister I never had... I... I love you, Fluttershy."
  223. >A hoof rests on your back and gently strokes you
  224. >"That's a good secret, Anon, I promise I'll keep it forever."
  225. >You feel happy that Fluttershy accepts you and find yourself with misty eyes
  226. >That was really hard to say, you think, but you know you are brave when it counts
