  2.
  3. >The radio crackles and sputters into life once again, a single orange LED casts a faint glow into the otherwise dark room
  4. >You pick up the microphone once again, and bring it up to your mouth.
  5. "Hello, my name is anonymous, if anyone can hear this, please, come and meet me at the spaghetti restaurant opposite the clock tower"
  6. "I have food, and I can keep you safe"
  7. >You pause, hoping to finally get a response.
  8. "Please, if you can hear this, anybody, please... I-
  9. >Your words are cut short as the radio crackles loudly again.
  10. >You smack the top of the casing with your hand for a while, before giving up and turning it off.
  11. "Piece of shit" You mutter to yourself.
  12. >You place the Mic back in its holder again.
  13. "I'll try again tomorrow"
  14.
  15. >The last slithers of sunlight are beginning to fade
  16. "Dinner time"
  17. >You pull the rucksack off your back and rummage through, pulling out 2 food cans.
  18. "Hmm, should I have store brand Beans, or fancy brand beans"
  19. "I'll have fancy brand, I feel like treating myself"
  20. >You force a smile onto your face.
  21. >Out comes the trusty can opener, you open the can with the familiar dull grinding sound.
  22. >After your fancy meal, you retreat to the inner regions of the restaurant, into the meat locker, and close the heavy door behind you.
  23. >You sit on the floor, back against the wall, at the far side of the room.
  24. >You don’t even bother trying to get comfy
  25. "Sure is cold tonight"
  26. >A light chill envelops the room
  27. "I've got just the thing"
  28. >You pull out a bottle of whiskey from your jacket, and quickly take a swig
  29. >The burning warmth fills your empty body with a cosy glow
  30. "Almost like a hug"
  31. >You look at the bottle in your hand
  32. "Maybe just a little bit more"
  33. >Before you know it the whole bottle's gone
  34. >You're exhausted.
  35. >You turn your head to your left, looking at your faithful rifle leaned up against the wall beside you
  36. >You check the chamber
  37. >5 rounds
  38. "Just in case"
  39. >You lift your head up and stare at the ceiling
  40. "Maybe tomorrow will be better"
  41. >The combination of tiredness and drunkenness quickly overtakes you and you fall asleep.
  42.
  43. ...
  44.
  45. "Is that... giggling"
  46. "Probably hearing things again"
  47. >You slowly force your eyes open, expecting nothing as usual
  48. >To your surprise, a small creature stands in front of you
  49. >it's about half your size, and standing on 4 legs from what you can tell
  50. >The room is incredibly dark, so you can make out much else
  51. -"Whatca' doin'?" the creature asks
  52. >you sigh
  53. "Waiting"
  54. >The creature cocks its head to one side
  55. -"What for?"
  56. >You stare blankly at the far corner of the room for a moment that seems to last forever
  57. >You respond eventually with a simple shrug
  58. ="Y'all don’t have t' fight any more, Anon"
  59. >Another voice appears, different to the first
  60. >Along with it, another creature, steps out from behind one of the shelves
  61. >It slowly walks up to you, before stopping just in front of your outstretched legs
  62. ="We're all waitin' for ya dear"
  63. +"Yeah!"
  64. >A third creature jumps down from a nearby counter, and stands beside you
  65. +"We have so many awesome things to show you!"
  66. The first creature giggles again
  67. -"Yeah, we've got parties, and balloons, and cake, so much cake"
  68. >Is it, dancing?
  69. >The second creature extends a limb towards you
  70. ="Whatdya' say sugar? Why don't you come join us?"
  71. >Despite the bizarre circumstances, you feel strangely at ease
  72. >And, for the first time since this all began, heck even since before that, you don’t feel so... alone.
  73. >The outstretch limb still beckons you
  74. >You just want to reach out and grab it, hold it, and never let go
  75. >You're so tired you can barley move...
  76. >You black out
  77.
  78. ...
  79.
  80. >Morning comes once again, and you can hear the usual bird songs.
  81. >You sit and listen for a while
  82. >your thoughts drift back to last nights events
  83. "Must be going crazy again"
  84. >You turn to your left
  85. >Your faithful rifle stands against the wall, as always, waiting for you
  86. >You check the chamber
  87. >5 rounds
  88. "Just in case"
  89. >You pull yourself up from the cold floor and stand upright, your joints cracking and aching all over like some kind of old man
  90. >You pull open the heavy door and gaze into the glaring sunlight
  91. "Maybe just one more try"
  92.
  93. 2)
  94.
  95. >It's raining again, pretty heavily as well.
  96. >Not that it matters, your clothes haven’t been clean in weeks.
  97. >You stumble aimlessly down the same city streets as you always do.
  98. >You'd think you would of seen everything by now.
  99. >You don’t need any more supplies, so why are you even out here?
  100. >You sigh
  101. "Maybe I’ve missed something?"
  102. >As you reach the end of the street, you turn left, for no particular reason.
  103. >It's the same as last time, the same burnt out cars, the same broken windows, the same grey backdrop.
  104. >You reach the end of the street
  105. "Dead end"
  106. >Just before you go to turn around and head back, something catches your eye.
  107. >A fancy suit shop, seemingly untouched by the tragedy that ruined everything else.
  108. >You know there won't be anything useful inside, but you can't take your eyes off it.
  109. >A single mannequin stands guard at the window, staring at you, unflinching.
  110. >It seems awfully familiar,and  it's about your height.
  111. "Mind if I come in" You ask with a small grin.
  112. >He doesn't mind
  113.
  114. >The door creaks when you open it, and a little bell rings.
  115. >You almost expect a store assistant to come running up to you.
  116. "It's alright, I'm just browsing"
  117. >You begin pacing around the store, there's so many different suits around
  118. >You grab one that takes your fancy.
  119. >A simple black suit/white shirt combo, classic
  120. "Mind if I try this on?"
  121. >They won't mind
  122. >Feels good to get out of those old clothes, how long since you last changed?
  123. >You don't remember
  124.
  125. >You approach a full body mirror, and wipe the thick dust layer off with your old jacket
  126. "Looking pretty good, but it's missing something"
  127. >A Fedora!
  128. "Perfect"
  129. >You look like something between a savvy detective and a moron
  130. >That makes you chuckle.
  131.
  132. ~"You look like a true gentlemen darling!" says an elegant voice from behind
  133. >You turn to locate the source
  134. >It's one of those...
  135. >You're not quite sure what it is, but it's pretty.
  136. >It's fur is a brilliant white, almost like seeing an angel, compared to all this brown.
  137. >It looks at you, a bit confused
  138. >How long were you staring?
  139. >You straighten your back and adjust your collar
  140. "Why thank you, m'Lady"
  141. >M'lady?, where did that come from?
  142. >You're pretty sure it is a girl at least
  143. >She smiles at you
  144. ~"I think it needs just a little something more"
  145. >She gestures over to a tie rack
  146. >As you rummage through them, one seems to stand out a little, with a faint blue glow
  147. >A simple red tie
  148. "This one?"
  149. >She nods
  150. >You quickly put it on and admire yourself in the mirror once again
  151. ~"Perfect! You look marvellous dear!"
  152. >A big smile appears on your face
  153. >You turn around to thank her
  154. >There's no one there
  155.
  156. ...
  157.
  158. "I guess she went ahead, I’ll have to catch up to her"
  159. >You pick up your things head outside
  160. >The rain's stopped
  161. >A rainbow begins to appear ahead of you, and the city doesn't seem so dark any more
  162. "Thanks guys"
  163. >Who are you talking to?
  164. >It doesn't matter
  165. >Today was going to be a good day.
  166.
  167. 3)
  168.
  169. >Pretty nice weather today
  170. >The sun is shining, and there's not a cloud in sight
  171. >You give a big yawn
  172. >You haven't slept well recently, too many nightmares
  173. >But it would be a shame to waste a day like today in bed
  174. >So you decided to go out for a walk
  175. >You reach your destination, the city park
  176. >A car has crashed into the front gate, and there's wreckage everywhere
  177. "That's a daft place to park"
  178. >you look around for the cars owner, but he seems to be missing
  179. "He'll probably get a ticket for that"
  180. >You hop up onto the bonnet, and down off the other side into the park.
  181. >The grass is wild and untamed, almost waist height
  182. >The path is cracking up, and weeds are growing through
  183. >You walk slowly to the centre of the park, admiring the scenery
  184.
  185. >You come to a large fountain, although it's long been dry
  186. >It's full of old pennies
  187. >All those wishes... you wonder if any came true
  188. >You rummage through your various pockets, and pull out a penny of your own
  189. >You remember when you were little, you'd used to wish for silly things, like a new bike.
  190. >Of course they never happened
  191. >But it was different now
  192. "I wish for-"
  193. >You quickly stop yourself
  194. "Can't say it out loud silly, it won't work then!"
  195. >That was close
  196. >You silently make your wish and toss your penny in.
  197. >You stare at the sea of pennies that have amassed in the fountain
  198. >what would make your wish stand out among so many others?
  199. >You don't deserve a wish
  200. >You give a heavy sigh, and place a hand on your forehead
  201.
  202. >Your daze is interrupted by a loud rustling sound
  203. >It's coming from the bushes up ahead
  204. >Whatever it is, it's big
  205. >You hear it grunt
  206. >You ready your rifle
  207. >The rustling continues
  208. >Your heart's working overdrive, and you can hear it in your ears
  209. >What the hell is this thing?
  210. >After a long stand-off it finally steps out from the bushes
  211. >You realise how stupid you are
  212. >It's just a cow, escaped from the petting zoo
  213. >It's even still wearing an ear tag
  214. >You laugh a little to yourself, getting scared over nothing
  215. >Although, you haven't had meat in a long time
  216. >You take a prone position to steady yourself
  217. >You raise your rifle up again
  218. >You place the cross-hairs over the cow's head
  219. >She's very skinny, you probably won't get much meat off her
  220. >But it's better than nothing right?
  221. >She's all alone, poor thing
  222. >It's just an animal, pull the dam trigger!
  223. >Your aim begins to shake
  224. >DO IT YOU PANSY
  225. >You try and refocus, lining the shot up once again
  226. >But your shaking too much, there's no way you'll hit it
  227. "I just can't do it"
  228.
  229.
  230. >You let out another sigh, and remove your eye from the rifle scope
  231. >Strangely, there's a hoof rested on your arm
  232. >it's attached to an adorable yellow pony
  233. >Pony, that's what you've started calling them
  234. >Like some kind of little girl
  235. #"Th- thank you"
  236. >She speaks so quietly and soft, it could lull you to sleep
  237. >She looks over to the cow
  238. #"I- I knew you'd be a good one"
  239. >You adjust your position and sit upright
  240. "I'm not sure I’d call myself that"
  241. >She turns her head back to you and look at you, eyes full of understanding
  242. #"It's OK, you're doing you're best"
  243. >You reach out a hand towards her
  244. >She flinches away from you
  245. >Very slowly, and very carefully, you place hand on top of her head, and give her a light petting
  246. >She's so soft... how can something this soft still exist?
  247. >Realising you're not going to hurt her, she calms down a bit, and gives you a small smile
  248. >You feel like you could sit here like this forever...
  249.
  250. >You're interrupted by a yawn, and take your hand away to cover it.
  251. >She seems a little concerned
  252. "I’m alright, just a little tired"
  253. #"Oh dear, that's not good at all"
  254. >She goes into thought for a second
  255. >She gives a tiny cough to clear here throat, and begins to sing
  256. >Almost like a lullaby
  257. >Your eyelids begin to close on their own
  258.
  259. "Just a quick nap"
  260. >Maybe wishes do come true after all.
  261.
  262. 4)
  263.
  264. >You Cough and splutter for the hundredth time that day
  265. >You've somehow managed to catch a cold
  266. >At least, you hope it's just a cold
  267. >You haven't started vomiting yet, so you think your OK
  268. "Don't start being paranoid now"
  269. >Regardless, you're in no state to go out today
  270. >You sit in a small apartment, staring out the kitchen window
  271. >The city, sits motionless, staring back
  272. >You stand up and walk to the bedroom
  273. >A single bed, next to a single desk with a single chair
  274. >It's pretty musty in here, and the carpet has dark stains in several places
  275. >Various posters cover the walls, although most are torn to pieces
  276. >You're pretty bored, so you decide to rummage through the draws
  277. >Apart from the occasional sock, most are empty
  278. >You check under the bed
  279. >you find a box
  280. >It's a chess board
  281. >You empty the contents onto the floor
  282. >You examine the pieces, What where they called again?
  283. >There's a horse and a castle, and this pointy one
  284. >You check the back of the box, and set it up accordingly
  285. >The pieces line up rank and file, awaiting the commander's orders
  286. >Now you just need someone to play against
  287.
  288. >You hear a knock at the door
  289. >How strange, you weren't expecting anyone today
  290. >You get up and hobble over to the door
  291. >Waiting for you on the other side, is a purple pony
  292. >She looks up at you with equally purple eyes
  293. >She's pretty cute actually
  294. *"I heard you was ill, so I brought you something"
  295. >At her feet is a brown paper bag, tied with string at the top
  296. >You open it
  297. >There's a bottle of cough medicine inside
  298. >Children’s cough medicine
  299. >You could never handle the strong stuff
  300. "Thanks, I really needed this"
  301. >She smiles
  302. *"Of course, what are friends for?"
  303. >Friends?
  304. >That's a strange choice of words
  305.
  306. >Looks like you've found your chess opponent
  307. >You lead her to the bedroom, and each sit at your respective sides
  308. >You go first, deciding to be extra tactful and move a pawn a whole 2 spaces
  309. >Now it's her turn, what cunning strategy would she employ?
  310. >She reaches towards the board, but stops before she touches the pieces, and looks up at you
  311. >Of course, she doesn't have hands
  312. >You'll have to move the pieces for her
  313. >It's not a problem, you can tell where she wants to move them
  314. >The game begins to unfold
  315. >It starts out in your favour, as you manage to take out both her bishops
  316. >But the tide soon turns
  317. >You end up with only a king and a pawn, while she has most her army
  318. >Looks like you've lost
  319. "Good game"
  320. >You reach out and shake her hand
  321. >Well, hoof
  322. >She stands up
  323. *"I have to go now, Anon"
  324. >Your heart sinks
  325. "oh..."
  326. >You give a frown
  327. *"But this was fun, maybe we can do this again sometime"
  328. >You'd like that
  329. >You follow her to the door and let her out
  330. >She trots down the corridor
  331. >You watch her slowly fade out
  332. >She disappears in a cloud of sparkles
  333. >You raise your hand and give a pathetic wave
  334. "See you soon..."
  335. >You swallow the lump in your throat
  336. "Friend"
  337.
  338. 5)
  339.
  340. $"Come on Anon, catch up!"
  341. >The tiny pony jumps up and down ahead of you
  342. >She moves fast for someone so small
  343. >You're having trouble keeping up
  344. >You slouch onto a bench to try and catch your breath
  345. "No need to rush now, there's plenty of time"
  346. >You feel something tugging on your trouser leg
  347. >You look down at the little bundle of joy.
  348. $"You can't sit here, we're gonna miss it!"
  349. >Her voice cracks a little
  350. >You smirk
  351. "It's not going to get up and walk away now, kiddo"
  352. >She paces on the spot, looking up and down the street
  353. $"But we're almost there!"
  354. >You pull yourself up and continue on
  355. >You arrive shortly after
  356. >The fairground
  357. >A large colourful sign welcomes you in
  358. >You approach a ticket booth
  359. >You pull out your wallet, and hand a couple of notes over to the counter
  360. >Luckily kid's go free
  361. >You take your change and pass through the barrier
  362. >Your miniature friend runs up ahead, unable to get into the fair fast enough
  363. >She bounces up and down
  364. $"Ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh, where do we go first?"
  365. >You kneel down and pick her up, under he armpits
  366. >She's warm and squidgy, like a marshmallow
  367. >she gives a little squeal
  368. >You place her up on your shoulders
  369. >You hold her legs tightly
  370. >Don't want to lose her now
  371.
  372. >You wander around the funfair
  373. >It's very quiet today
  374. >Most people are probably at work today
  375. >Good, that means no queueing
  376. $"Oh oh, that one, I wanna ride that one!"
  377. >She points to the spinning tea cups
  378. "Nice choice"
  379. >You let her down and she bounds over to one of the over sized cups
  380. >You stroll over and take a seat next to her
  381. >You hold onto the seat in anticipation
  382. >Come on, start the ride already!
  383. >You stand up and go to the operating station
  384. >Peering in the window, you can't spot anyone inside
  385. "Typical, the one day we visit it's out of order!"
  386. >You walk back over to the cup where she's sat
  387. "Sorry Sweetie, but it's not working"
  388. >Her smile quickly vanishes
  389. >You can't disappoint her
  390. "But that won't stop our fun!"
  391. >You grab the side of the cup, and begin spinning it around
  392. >She giggles and screams
  393. "What's that, you want to go faster?"
  394. $"No! No!"
  395. >You push with all your might, spinning at full speed
  396. >You think she's had enough, and slowly stop the maniac spinning cup
  397. >You peer in
  398. >She's dizzy and shaking, but still has a smiler wider than her face
  399. >She giggles again
  400. $"That was fun! What now? what now?"
  401. >How does she have so much energy?
  402. >She runs off ahead and around the corner
  403. >You sprint after her
  404. >Can't let her leave your sight
  405.
  406. >You turn the corner
  407. >She's still there
  408. >You give a sigh of relief
  409. >She staring up at a large stuffed bear, hanging from one of the stalls
  410. >Looks like it used to be blue
  411. >The stitching is coming lose, and stuffing is falling out
  412. >But if she wants it, you'll get her it
  413. >You won't let her down
  414. >The stall is hosting one of those can games
  415. >Knock down all 6 with 3 balls to win
  416. >Sounds simple enough
  417. >You place your money on the counter and pick up a ball
  418. >20 throws later, and the cans still stand, mocking your poor throwing skills
  419. >You check your wallet
  420. >Empty
  421. >Not giving up that easily
  422. >You bring your rifle round in front of you, and lean it on the counter
  423. >You aim at the cans
  424. "Bet they never saw this coming"
  425. >You pull the trigger
  426. >The gunshot echoes throughout the city
  427. >Needless to say, the cans are no more.
  428. >You triumphantly re-holster your rifle and claim your prize
  429. $"Ohmygosh! you got it! you're the best Anon!"
  430. >She grabs your leg and hugs you
  431. >You stand, stunned for a few seconds
  432. >You crouch down and hug her back.
  433.
  434. >Finally, you did something right
  435.
  436. 6)
  437.
  438. >You need drink
  439. >You know you shouldn't, your liver's going to hate you for it
  440. >You approach your favourite bar
  441. >A man sits motionless at the side of the door
  442. >You pass some money down to him
  443. "Good luck out there"
  444. >Inside the bar, your seat beckons you
  445. >The stool nearest the bar
  446. >You go behind the bar and grab a beer bottle
  447. >Better make that six bottles
  448. >You slump down to your stool, and crack open the first
  449. >It's going to be a long night
  450.
  451. >The empty bottles gather beside you
  452. >You're face down on the counter now
  453. >Today's events play on repeat through your head
  454. >Maybe if you'd been faster
  455. >Maybe things would of been different
  456. >A tear starts to emerge
  457. >You quickly shake your head and stop it
  458. "Men don't cry"
  459. >You raise the bottle to your mouth again
  460. >Empty
  461. >Better open the next one
  462.
  463. >The door opens, letting the cold night air in
  464. >Someone walks in, and takes a seat next to you
  465. >Your face remains firmly rooted to the bar
  466. ="I'll have a bottle of ya' finest cider, please"
  467. >Do you know that voice?
  468. >You sit upright and turn to look at her
  469. >An orange pony in a Cowboy hat looks back at you
  470. >Can't let her see you like this
  471. >You quickly stand up
  472. "The service is terrible here"
  473. >You go behind the bar and pull out a cider bottle
  474. "This one OK?"
  475. >She nods
  476. >You open it and place it in front of her, then return to your seat
  477. ="What y'all doin' in a place like this anyway?"
  478. >You try not to look at her
  479. "Nothing, just doing... nothing"
  480. >She looks at the empty bottles
  481. ="That's an awful lotta beers for doin' nuthin'"
  482. ="Is everythin' alright, Anon?"
  483. >You slam your bottle on the counter
  484. "I'm fine!"
  485. >She flinches away from you
  486. >You don't want to scare her, but you really want to be alone right now
  487. >You finish your beer and open the next one
  488. "I'm fine, everything’s... fine"
  489. >You sit in awkward silence for a while
  490. >She'll leave soon
  491. >You hear her shuffle on her chair
  492. >She must be going home
  493. >You listen for the door
  494. >But you don't hear it open
  495. >Instead, an arm gets placed around your shoulder
  496. ="What happened today, Anon?"
  497. >She speaks much quieter now
  498. >You let out a long sigh
  499. "I messed up"
  500.
  501. "This morning, the radio picked up something"
  502. "Some people just outside the city"
  503. "They were in trouble, and needed my help"
  504. "So I went out to find them"
  505. >You pause for a moment
  506. "But when I got there..."
  507. >Your voice trails off
  508. "I wasn't fast enough"
  509. "I couldn't help them, it was already too late"
  510. >Your thoughts race back to the scene
  511. >Woman and child, side by side
  512. >You had to do it, it wasn't fair to leave them suffering
  513. >You start crying again
  514. >She pats your back gently
  515. >You don't try and hold it back any more
  516. >You collapse into her arms, and cry into her shoulder
  517. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry..."
  518. >She pats your back again
  519. ="It's alright, everything’s going to be OK, ya'hear?"
  520. >You tighten your grip on her
  521. "Please, please stay with me"
  522. ="I will, Anon, I promise"
  523. ="We all will"
  524.
  525. 7)
  526.
  527. >You walk with a spring in your step
  528. >Today was your birthday
  529. >Your friends surely had something planned for you
  530. >They had told you to meet them at them at the diner
  531. "Remember to act surprised"
  532. >You reach the diner
  533. >It's colourful red design had faded long ago
  534. >The windows are all boarded up
  535. >You approach the front door and grab the handle
  536. >You smirk, and slowly edge the door open with a creak
  537. "Anybody in here?"
  538. >You turn and flick the light switch
  539. >The lights hum and flicker into life
  540. -"Surprise!"
  541. >An assortment of colourful ponies jumps out from behind the counter
  542. >You do your best "surprised" face, but you can't help but grin like a madman
  543. >Everyone’s here
  544. >The room is crudely decorated with an assortment of tacky things
  545. >Christmas lights hung from the ceiling
  546. >Old birthday cards tied together into makeshift streamers
  547. >And a dirty banner, reading "Happy birthday, Tim!", "Tim" has been crossed out, and "Anon" is written above it
  548. >It's far from perfect, but it's yours
  549. "Wow... thanks guys, this is amazing!"
  550. >You're overcome with joy, almost to tears
  551. ="Aww, shucks, it's nothin' really"
  552. ~"Only the best for you, darling"
  553. >The pink one jumps onto a table beside you
  554. -"Let's party!"
  555. >She throws her arms into the air and cheers
  556. >Everyone joins in
  557. >You switch on the cassette player sitting on the table beside you
  558. >Only one speaker works, and you've only got one tape
  559. >It's your favourite though, so you put it on loop
  560. >You begin your awkward dancing
  561. >You must look like a moron
  562. >But you don't care
  563. >It's your special day
  564. >Nothing's going to ruin it
  565.
  566. >The music begins to slow, until it's nothing more than an unintelligible mess
  567. >You switch it off
  568. >Batteries never last long enough
  569. >You turn back to your friends
  570. >They all stare back with adoring eyes
  571. -"Presents! Time for presents!"
  572. >She grabs your arm and leads you over to a table
  573. >On it, are your birthday presents
  574. >Weirdly shaped packets, terribly wrapped in newspaper
  575. >Must be hard when you don't have hands
  576. >You take a seat, and begin opening the first
  577. >You take your time, relishing every moment
  578. >This might never happen again
  579. >A hip flask
  580. >A new tie
  581. >A can of spaghetti hoops
  582. >And various other junk
  583. >You don't mind though, you didn't give them much notice
  584. >You look around the table, at the faces of each of your friends
  585. >The best friends you could wish for
  586. >You begin tearing up again
  587. "I..."
  588. >You make the best smile you can manage
  589. "I love you guys"
  590.
  591. 8)
  592.
  593. >You are in a field on the outskirts of the city
  594. >You don't usually come out this far
  595. >You're looking for flowers
  596. >They don't grow in the city
  597. >You wanted to surprise your friends with a present
  598. >It would be winter soon, so you didn't want to miss your chance
  599. >You kneel down by a group of red and yellow ones
  600. "They'll like these"
  601. >You carefully dig them up and place them in a small plant pot you brought with you
  602. >As you return to your feet, a flock of geese flies overhead
  603. >You raise a hand to your forehead and salute them
  604. "See you next spring"
  605. >It's getting pretty dark, so you best head back
  606. >You hop over the fence and onto the road, beginning the long trek back
  607. >You imagine the look on their faces when you show them the flowers
  608. >You smile
  609. >They're surely missing you
  610.
  611. >You hear a noise in the distance behind you
  612. >You turn around to look
  613. >Two bright lights are approaching you, at speed
  614. >You stand, completely dazed
  615. >The noise gets louder, a loud roaring noise
  616. >You place the plant pot by the side of the road
  617. >You remove your fedora and place it against your chest
  618. "I'm ready"
  619. >The lights get closer
  620. >Any second now
  621. >The lights are almost upon you now
  622. >But with a loud screech, they stop
  623.
  624. < "Oi, you alright there mate?"
  625. >The lights dim slightly, revealing a large 4x4
  626. >A figure is leaning out the side window
  627. < "You wanna lift back to camp mate?"
  628. >The passenger side door opens
  629. >You return your fedora to your head, and slowly approach the 4x4
  630. >Inside, a man wearing dirty camo grins at you with yellow teeth
  631. < "Hop in mate"
  632. >You climb into the passenger seat and close the door
  633. >The man shoves the gear stick forward with a jerk, and the 4x4 begins to move
  634. < "You look bloody knackered, mate, 'ow long you been out here?"
  635. >You jump in your seat, and try to form a response
  636. >But you just can't make words come out
  637. >You stare at the passenger foot weld
  638. < "No worries, you'll be alright once we get back to camp"
  639. >He gives a nervous laugh
  640. >You remain silent
  641. >He glances over to you again, then turns the car stereo on
  642. >After an awkward drive, the car finally stops
  643. < "'ere ya go mate, we're 'ere"
  644. >You climb out the 4x4 and look ahead
  645. >It's a holiday camp
  646. >Several log cabins are scattered between the trees, and a large cafeteria is in the centre
  647. > "Oi, Bill, look what I found!"
  648. >A large man in a trucker's outfit approaches you
  649. ¬ "Well looky here, if it ain't a live one!"
  650. >He extends a hand out towards you
  651. ¬ "Name's Bill, nice to meet ya"
  652. >You stare down at the outstretched hand
  653. >A hand, not a hoof
  654. >Are you supposed to do something?
  655. >He steps forward and grabs your hand
  656. >He shakes it up and down, quite roughly
  657. >He finally releases you and puts a hairy arm around your shoulder
  658. >He points to a lone cabin in the corner
  659. ¬ "You can 'ave that one"
  660. >The he points to the cafeteria
  661. ¬ "Everyone's in 'ere, come inside and meet tha' gang"
  662. >He drags you to the cafeteria
  663. >About a dozen people sit around various tables
  664. >He stands on up a chair and shouts
  665. ¬ "We got ourselves a new recruit fella's!"
  666. >He grabs your hand again and raises it into the air
  667. ¬ "What's your name, kid?"
  668. >"uh, I-, umm..."
  669. >Everyone looks at you with confused expression
  670. >"My name is Anon"
  671. >The crowd mumbles various greetings, some give you half a wave, or a nod
  672. >Then they all return to their conversations
  673. >He jumps down from the chair and points over to the counter
  674. ¬ "Grab you'self a bowl, our treat"
  675. >You walk over and pick one up
  676. >You turn back around and survey the room
  677. >Everyone sits in their little groups
  678. >A Mother, Father and child sit at one table
  679. >The father ruffles his kids hair
  680. >At another table, an old couple
  681. >Deeply rooted in quiet conversation
  682. >And over at another, a group of men
  683. >Talking loudly, with occasional interruptions of laughter
  684. >You decide to sit alone
  685.
  686. >You peer into the bowl in front of you
  687. >Fresh vegetables
  688. >You pick up a steaming carrot and pop it in your mouth
  689. >You forgot how good things are fresh
  690. >It's the best meal you've had in ages
  691. >But it's not the same...
  692. >You gaze at the empty seats around your table
  693. >...When there's no one to share it with
  694. >You quickly finish up and head outside
  695. >You walk over to your designated cabin, and close the door behind you
  696. >The moon casts a dim light across the empty room
  697. >Nothing in here but a single bed
  698. >You lay down and stare at the ceiling
  699. >This is what you wanted, right?
  700. >You close your eyes, and try your best to sleep
  701.
  702. *"Anon..."
  703. >A faint voice is calling you
  704. *"Anon... where are you Anon?"
  705. >You try to call back, but you can't make a sound
  706. *"Anon... please come home"
  707. >Home
  708. >This is your home now
  709. *"We miss you..."
  710.
  711. >You awake with a jerk, and throw yourself upright
  712. >Your face is soaking wet
  713. >You jump out of bed and go to the window
  714. >It's raining heavily
  715. >You look over to the city
  716. >To the clock tower, in the far distance with the moonlight reflecting off it's face
  717. "I miss you too"
  718. >You pick up your bag and your rifle
  719. >You put your fedora in it's rightful place atop your head
  720. >You open the door and look into the darkness
  721.
  722. >It was time to go home
  723.
  724. 9)
  725. >The freezing rain stings your face
  726. >You can barely see where you're going
  727. >You just keep walking towards the clock tower
  728. >Were they're waiting for you
  729. >You come to a large mess of crashed cars
  730. >Without even a moment of hesitation, you climb up onto it
  731. >No time to waste
  732. >You slip and fall amidst the mass of crumpled metal
  733. >A sharp pain pierces your leg
  734. >It's cut, and bleeding quite badly
  735. >You get straight back up and keep going
  736. >Now hobbling, you jump down from the wreckage and keep going
  737. >The wind pushes against you
  738. >A voice in the back of head keeps telling you to go back
  739. >You can't feel your feet any more
  740. >But you keep going
  741. >You have to get to them
  742.
  743. >You arrive at the field from before
  744. >The flowers you selected still sit in their pot
  745. >You pick them up, covering them with your suit jacket
  746. >You shiver from the cold, but you have to protect them
  747. >You continue on your journey
  748. >Step by step, you stumble
  749. >You look towards the city
  750. "I'm coming guys"
  751. >You hope they're alright
  752. >Not looking where you're going, you trip over some rubble
  753. >You instinctively hold the flower out of harms way
  754. >You land flat on your face
  755. >You hear something crunch
  756. >Your nose is broken
  757. >Blood trickles down your face
  758. >You groan in pain
  759. >You try and lift yourself up
  760. >Your arms wobble, and you collapse back down
  761. >You reach out towards the city
  762. >Just a bit further
  763. >You begin to drag yourself across the floor with your free hand, still clutching the flower with the other
  764. >You don't make it very far before you collapse again
  765. >You can't just give up
  766. >What will they do without you?
  767. >But you can't move another inch
  768. >Your face is a mess of blood and tears
  769. "I'm sorry"
  770. >You lay face down in the road
  771. "I'm just not strong enough"
  772.
  773. £ "Anon!"
  774. >A loud voice bellows at you from above
  775. >You look up to see a tall, majestic pony
  776. >She glows with a radiant blue light
  777. >She stares down at you in your pathetic state
  778. £ "What are you doing out here?"
  779. >She looks over at your leg
  780. £ "You're not going to let that stop you are you?"
  781. >You attempt to get up, but quickly collapse again
  782. £ "I see"
  783. >She lowers her head down to you
  784. >She whispers something in your ear
  785. >A wave of energy washes over you
  786. >Your leg doesn't seem to hurt as much now
  787. >You manage to pull yourself off the ground
  788. >You clamber to your feet
  789. >You look over to your saviour
  790. "Thanks, I-"
  791. >She covers your mouth with a hoof to silence you
  792. £ "There's no need"
  793. >She looks over to the city
  794. £ "Hurry now, they're waiting for you"
  795. >You turn and continue your journey, hobbling with newfound strength
  796.
  797. >You finally make it to the city centre
  798. >The sun is beginning to rise
  799. >You stumble over to the spaghetti restaurant
  800. >You force open the heavy doors with your whole body
  801. >You stand in the open doorway, completely out of breath
  802. >You made it
  803. >Your home
  804. >Your friends
  805. >It's all still here
  806.
  807. *"Welcome home, Anon"
  808.
  809. 10)
  810.
  811. >The snow continues to fall gently around you
  812. >A thick white blanket lays across the city
  813. >You'd never know what was underneath it
  814. >A parting in the clouds creates a beam of light ahead
  815. >In it, stands the bright pony with the rainbow mane
  816. >She looks at you with a mischievous smile
  817. +"What's up, Anon? Your legs frozen or something?"
  818. >You throw your scarf over your shoulder and jog over to her
  819. +Oh, so you CAN move fast when you want to?"
  820. >You catch up and stand beside her
  821. "No need to rush now"
  822. >You ruffle the top of her mane
  823. "We've got all the time in the world"
  824. >The two of you continue your walk at a leisurely pace
  825. +"So Anon, I was wondering..."
  826. >You look down to your side
  827. >She's got that look on her face again
  828. +"Bet'cha can't hit me with a snowball!"
  829. >She dashes off ahead
  830. "Oh yeah! It's on then!"
  831. >You bend down and begin moulding some snowballs
  832. >Although they aren't very ball shaped, just lumpy
  833. >You return to your feet with your icy ammo in your arm
  834. >Now where could she be?
  835. >You scan the scene around you
  836. >A multicoloured tail pokes out from behind a fence, betraying her presence
  837. >You do your best stealth mode and sneak over to it
  838. "I have no clue where she's gone!"
  839. >You hear a giggle
  840. >You reach the fence and jump over
  841. "I've got you now!"
  842. >You unload your snow barrage upon her
  843. >She's too damn fast, and dodges every single one
  844. >She jumps back over the fence and runs off again
  845. "You're not getting away that easy!"
  846. >You hop over after her and begin pursuit
  847. >Ducking and weaving between the various scattered wreckage
  848. >Your catching up to her
  849. >You reach out your arms to grab her
  850. >But she turns at the last second and avoids you
  851. >You collide with a lamppost and fall over backwards
  852.
  853. >You gaze up at the sky
  854. >Since you're down here anyway, you decide to make a snow angel
  855. >Your colourful friend stands above you, still panting
  856. +"Told you... I'm un... untouchable"
  857. >You smirk
  858. "I should of known better than to accept a challenge from the master"
  859. >She beams with pride
  860. >You climb to your feet and admire your creation
  861. >It doesn't look much like an angel
  862. >The exposed ground leaves a stain of brown on the perfect white snow
  863. >You kick some snow over it to cover it
  864. +"Where to now, Anon?"
  865. >You look over to the setting sun
  866. "I know just the place"
  867. >You walk over to a tall apartment block
  868. >You place your hands on the cold steel bars and begin climbing
  869. >It's a long way up
  870. >It's easy for her though
  871. >She peers down from the top of the ladder
  872. >Silhouetted against the fading sun
  873. >She stretches out her wings
  874. >She looks almost divine
  875. >You quicken your climb
  876. >You finally reach the top and clamber over
  877. >You walk over to the edge of the roof and sit down, legs over the edge
  878. >You pat the space next to you
  879. >She walks over and sits beside you
  880. >The two of you gaze into the setting sun
  881. >You reach out an arm and place it over her shoulder
  882. >You pull her in close
  883. >She jumps a little, but quickly relaxes
  884. >She rests her head on your shoulder
  885.
  886. >In that moment
  887. >At that time
  888. >You couldn't be happier
  889. >For a second you could almost believe
  890. >That you were in heaven.
  891.
  892. 11)
  893.
  894. >You walk down the empty streets once again
  895. >It's dark and it's cold
  896. >Everything around you sits lifeless and grey
  897. >Even the sun can't seem to brighten up today
  898. >You need to find some food
  899. >But there's nothing left for you here
  900. >You pass by some places you remember fondly
  901. >So many happy memories were made here
  902. >You smile in quiet remembrance
  903. >You reach a bridge, and peer over the rail into the murky canal waters
  904. >A rusted shopping trolley sits at the bank, and a broken tree branch floats past
  905. >You stare into the depths
  906. >The surface flickers a dim reflection
  907. >You can see something...
  908. >An image starts to appear
  909. >You watch in awe as a crystal clear picture begins to emerge
  910. >You see a small town, bright and cheery
  911. >You've never seen the place before, though it feels very familiar
  912. >You reach your hand down to it
  913. >It feels so close, like you can almost touch it
  914. -"What are you waiting for?"
  915. >You turn around to see your friends standing opposite you
  916. >You both stand silent for a few moments
  917. ="We've had a mighty fine time here in your world, Anon"
  918. ~"Really, it's been grand"
  919. +"We'd love to return the favour"
  920. #"If th- that's OK with you"
  921. >They each take a step forward as they speak
  922. >You slump down with your back against the cold steel railing
  923. >You look down at the rifle in your hands
  924. *"Haven't you waited long enough?"
  925. >They all stand much closer now
  926. >You lift it up and check the chamber
  927. >5 rounds
  928. >You only need one
  929. >You slowly turn it around to face you
  930. >Your hands are trembling massively
  931. >A hoof get placed on your shaking hand
  932. >Followed by several more
  933. >Your friends look down on you with understanding smiles
  934. >You can do this
  935. >It was time
  936. >You bring the barrel up and place it against your head
  937. >You gaze around at your friends faces once more
  938. "See you soon"
  939. >You close your eyes and take a deep breath
  940. >You reach your finger over to the trigger
  941.
