  1. >You watch as the land beneath your feet turns dark
  2. >The suns once yellow glare turns orange, fading beyond the horizon
  3. >A faint wind passes through the land, kicking sand from the desert
  4. >Night was approaching fast
  5. >In the distance you spot a large obsidian rock sticking up from the sand
  6. >Trudging through the sand you make your way to the stone
  7. >Carved horizontally are light blue runes
  8. >Nothing legible
  9. >You produce a leather bound notepad and begin copying the runes onto the paper
  10. >In exact order and detail
  11. >Finishing the last stroke you close the book and put it back again
  12. >Something bright catches the right of your eye
  13. >You turn around to see the whole pillar of stone glowing bright blue
  14. >From the top down the runes fill with a purple color
  15. >you shield your eyes as the light intensified
  16. >Slowly it fades back into nothingness
  17. >When you look again, standing before you was a purple unicorn
  18. >She or he, was only 3 feet tall, as high as your waist
  19. >You both stare at each other in awe before it speaks
  20. >"S-stay back!"
  21. >There was no mistake from the pitch, it was a she
  22. >You notice her horn had a purple light at the end of it
  23. "whoa, take it easy."
  24. >You put up your hands in a harmless gesture
  25. >She doesn't seem to understand what you're saying or doing
  26. >"I said stay back!"
  27. >The two of you stand there in the shadow of the obelisk, neither moving
  28. >She couldn't understand your language without a translator
  29. >Too bad you didn't have an extra one on you
  30. >Out of the corner of your eye you notice the sun had set
  31. >And something like a sandstorm was racing towards the both of you
  32. >But with no wind, there couldn't be a sandstorm here
  33. >Unless that was a...
  34. >The unicorn notices where your looking and turns to look that way too
  35. >From the light on her horn you can see a dune crawler jump from the sand
  36. >In one motion you grab the unicorn from the waist and vault to the right
  37. >The crawler misses your foot by an inch
  38. >You let her out of your grasp and unholster your weapon
  39. >A six shot .44 revolver
  40. >The crawler Burroughs underground and looks like it was turning around
  41. >It jumped again, higher this time
  42. >You unload all six shots into it's mouth before rolling away
  43. >The unicorn dodges out of the way of the crawler as it burroughs once more
  44. >You fish around your pockets for more bullets as the crawler nears the surface again
  45. >That unicorns horn began glowing brighter this time
  46. >When the crawler jumped it was suspended in midair
  47. >That unicorns doing
  48. >You unload another six shots into the crawler, this time aimed specifically for the eye
  49. >Each bullet protrudes a horrific shriek from the beast
  50. >It withers and squirms for a few more minutes as you reload
  51. >Blood drips from its gaping mouth
  52. >You put two more bullets into the beasts eye before it stops moving
  53. >The unicorn drops the beast once it's stopped moving and you hosted your gun
  54. >"um, good work."
  55. >You nod and reach up to take off your translator
  56. >It's really just a magical amulet that reinterperates languages
  57. >You hold out the necklace to her and gesture around your neck
  58. >She floats the necklace around her own neck and secures it with magic
  59. "Alright, nod if you can understand me."
  60. >She does nod, though she tries to say something to you
  61. >It's utter gibberish to your ears
  62. "Can't understand you without that necklace."
  63. >I can assure you though I'm a friend.
  64. "If you could provide light, we could get to the nearest town within an hour."
  65. >She looks like she wants to say something but doesn't and instead conjures a floating ball of light
  66. >For the next hour the two of you traverse the red desert at night
  67. >Along the way the two of you spot all kinds of creatures of the night
  68. >She seems to take a real interest in each of them
  69. >Soon the lights of the city find envelop the both of you
  70. >Sandstone and wooden buildings line the streets
  71. >Hookers of all kinds of species line the streets and shady looking people hide in ever ally
  72. >You just keep pushing her along until you come to a shop called 'magical armament'
  73. >Inside there were all kinds of clothings
  74. >Metal, cloth, leather, anything you could want
  75. >The salesmen at the end of the counter says something to you
  76. >You go over and tell him you need a translator necklace otherwise you couldn't understand him
  77. >He looks at you strangely before producing another necklace
  78. >A red jewel attached to a silver chain
  79. >You place the necklace around your neck and hear the locks snap
  80. >"Does the translator work?"
  81. "Yes thank you, how much do I owe you?"
  82. >He waves his hand at you
  83. >"I could never charge a man for something so essential."
  84. >You thank him And exit the shop with your unicorn companion
  85. "Alright, now that I can understand you, what's your name?"
  86. >She looks up to you
  87. >"My name is Twilight Sparkle, thank you for your help earlier mister.."
  88. "Anon. Anon EE Mous."
  89. >"Well, thank you Anon."
  90. >You take a corner and enter a hotel building
  91. >Inside you ask the receptionist for one of the top floors
  92. >It's a long walk to get up there, but most top floors of a hotel are better than the bottom floors
  93. >You explain this to Twilight on the way up
  94. >When in the room you silently close the door behind the both of you
  95. "Alright, what're you doing here Twilight?"
  96. >She looks over at you questioningly
  97. >"Huh? What do you mean?"
  98. >You sigh and sit down on one of the wood chairs
  99. "You're in Tartarus, the jail of all jails. Only the most ruthless and vile people get sent here.
  100. You don't fit that description at all, so how did you get here?"
  101. >She takes a moment before speaking, probably wondering if she should tell you
  102. >Her story is about her land, called Equestria, being in dire need of help
  103. >She and her five friends wield the most powerful artifacts of the world but they seem to have gone missing
  104. >Turns out someone tossed them into Tartarus and in order to save the world she came here alone to retrieve them
  105. >"And I don't have much time, I have to get back within 24 hours."
  106. "How?"
  107. >She gives you a confused look
  108. >"what do you mean how?"
  109. "How are you getting out of Tartarus? If there was a way out, someone here would have found a way."
  110. >She smiles at you and protrudes a white gem
  111. >"Princess Celestial gave me this gem so I would have a way to return. If I used it on a-."
  112. >You stop her midsentance
  113. "Shh."
  114. >Faintly there's the breathing of the both of you
  115. >In an instant you've bolted from your seat and slammed the door to the room open
  116. "Who's there!?"
  117. >Down the stairs you hear footsteps flying, making a fast retreat
  118. >Tch, somebody heard that
  119. >"Who was that?"
  120. >Twilight walks up behind you
  121. "A thief."
  122. >You mutter this quietly
  123. >This city was known for having the most thieves in all of Tartarus
  124. >Sleeping in the sandy desert wansn't something you had wanted to do tonight
  125. >But staying here probably wouldn't be a good idea either
  126. >Twilight watches as you take out some more supplies from your bag
  127. >Watercan, packages of food, some boxes
  128. >You get the tent supplies out from the bottom of your bag and repack so it's closer to the top instead
  129. "We're leaving."
  130. >You sling the bag onto your back and look out the door
  131. >"Why are we leaving?"
  132. "Is everybody from your world a nice person?"
  133. >She nods
  134. >"Everypony is kind and fair and gets along. Why?"
  135. "That's not how it works anywhere else. People here are anything but nice.
  136. Actually I shouldn't say that, not all of them are evil, just the majority."
  137. >You take Twilight and lead her out the fire exit, down the stairs
  138. >Two people are talking at the front of the hotel
  139. >It wouldn't hurt to be safe, you both go down another ally and take the sidestreet out of the city
  140. >Along the way you tell Twilight not to use that light magic in the desert this time
  141. >One, it would attract people from the city and it would be better to not get robbed
  142. >Second, those dune crawlers were attracted to light, especially at night
  143. >In the distance you can see the city lights, small as a candlelight
  144. >You find a small sandstone alcove and setup camp there for the night
  145. >Twilight really didn't like the idea of sleeping in general, since she only had so much time to be here
  146. >But you tell her it would only be a few hours and then the two of you could get moving
  147. "Besides, you don't even know where to look for your elements of harmony. Or do you?"
  148. >She shakes her head
  149. >"I don't know where they are, but I could probably find them with magic."
  150. "Well, not now. Wait until the sun comes up, it should only be a few hours."
  151. >She was probably looking at you strangely but fuck if you could see in this kind of light
  152. >"What do you mean a few hours? It just turned dark an hour ago."
  153. "You forget where you are right now. Night and day only last a few hours in Tartarus, especially in this desert.
  154. We'll be traveling in an hour or so. But I'm tired as all hell."
  155. >You ask if she wanted to sleep before starting this journey of hell
  156. >She said no so you unroll your one sleeping mat and let the dreams cloud your eyes
  157. >Light bright colors enveloped your vision
  158. >You looked down to see a gun in your hands, an M16 to be exact
  159. >Not this dream
  160. >There was no stopping what you did, you shot and killed anything in your path
  161. >Everything fell to your weapon
  162. >Beside you was your friend, her name was 7
  163. >Neither of you had real names, those were taken long ago
  164. >In the distance you spot a glint of light
  165. >A snipers scope
  166. >Your reaction was quick, three bursts in that direction
  167. >The glint stops, but something else doesn't
  168. >Barely you notice something else glint in the light
  169. >It kept growing in side, like a bullet
  170. >You turn to 7 and tell her to duck
  171. >She turns to you but doesnt duck quick enough
  172. >From the side of her head erupts bits of bone, brain matter, and blood
  173. >Her eyes go wide, then empty as she hits the floor
  174. >As if all enemy fire stopped at that moment you kneal down next to your dead friends body
  175. "Seven!"
  176. >You bolt upright and look around
  177. >Everything has changed
  178. >You're not back there anymore, now you're in a cave
  179. >Twilight is standing next to you, with her hooves on your chest
  180. >Slowly you wipe your eyes and stand up
  181. >"Are you alright Anon?"
  182. >You nod at her
  183. "Yeah, just a bad dream is all."
  184. >She looks concerned at you
  185. >"Was it about someone important to you? You kept saying 'Seven' in your sleep."
  186. >You shake your head as you repack your sleeping bag
  187. "Just a memory is all. Don't worry about it, do you know where we have to go?"
  188. >She doesn't seem to want to change the subject but reluctantly her horn glows and she points a direction
  189. >"That way."
  190. >You check your compass
  191. >North-East
  192. >Nothing was in that direction for a few hundred miles
  193. >That was good, or it could be bad
  194. >Hopefully it was closer than you were thinking
  195. "Alright, lets head out then."
  196. >You exit the alcove with Twilight in tow
  197. >Both of you begin a long journy through the sea of sand
