1. > “Just where do you think we are?” Fluttershy sheepishly asks
2. > “I dunno.” Rainbow Dash replies. “Wherever we are, I don't like it.”
3. > The two spend some time exploring their surroundings.
4. > A small kitchenette that has long since been abandoned.
5. > Fluttershy flies over to a tall counter.
6. > Various kitchen utensils and stale ingredients are strewn about the place.
7. > The walls are lined with stainless steel appliances, such as large ovens and refrigerators.
8. > Many of them have been left open, their contents been left to rot.
9. > “Who do you think runs this place?” Fluttershy asks, prodding a piece of moldy bread with her hoof.
10. > “Dunno.” Dash replies, she runs her hoof along a counter top.
11. > It collects a large clump of dust, which she shakes off.
12. > “I don't think anyone's been here in a while, Fluttershy.”
13. > “Yeah,” Fluttershy replies. “They must have left in a hurry.”
14.
15. > Rainbow floats around the room before coming across a pair of stainless steel double doors.
16. > It's slightly ajar.
17. > “Hey! Fluttershy!” she shouts. “I think I found a way out!”
18. > “Really?”
19. > “Yeah!” Dash shouts, she tries pulling on the door but finds it jammed. “Ugh! It's stuck! Fluttershy! Help me get it open!”
20. > “O-Okay!” she whispers, running over to Rainbow's side.
21. > It's a bit of a struggle, but they manage to get the door open.
22. > Hesitantly they pass through, revealing an abandoned store front.
23. > Large glass counters run along the store.
24. > Each one of them filled to the brim with moldy pastries and stale foods.
25. > “A bakery?” Fluttershy asks. “This is a bakery!?”
26. > “It 'was' a bakery.” Rainbow replies, stepping over the broken glass and scattered debris on the floor. “Only Celestia knows what happened here.”
27.
28. > “Rainbow Dash!” Fluttershy whispers. “Come here! Look!”
29. > “What is it!?” Rainbow replies, quickly flying over to Fluttershy.
30. > She points a hoof over to the wall where a small framed photograph hangs off center.
31. > “Are those the 'humans' Twilight was talking about?” Fluttershy asks, handing the photograph to Rainbow.
32. > It's a group photograph of the Baker's staff and owner.
33. > “Ehh. I guess? They sure look like it, don't they?” Rainbow asks.
34. > “Yeah. I mean. Just look at them! Where's their fur? And why are their manes so short and bleak?”
35. > “I dunno. That something you'd wanna ask Twilight.”
36. > “Ohh... Twilight... I haven't seen them since we went in the portal. Do you think she's alright?”
37. > “Pffft. You're honestly worried about Twilight?” Rainbow laughs. “I think the princess is just fine. You worry too much!”
38. > “But what about the others?”
39. > “They're fiine! Honestly, Fluttershy!”
40. > “But we were all separated! Weren't we? What if they're lost!” Fluttershy whimpers.
41. > Rainbow Dash cheerfully punches Fluttershy in her shoulder. “Then we'll find em. Problem solved!”
42. > “But-”
43. > “Come on.” Rainbow interrupts. “Let's just get out here. We'll find the others. I promise.”
44. > “O-Okay.”
45. > Rainbow nods with content before she steps through the bakery's front door.
46.
47. > It's a cold night.
48. >And a cold chill runs down Rainbow's spine as a gust of icy air hits her against the cheek.
49. > “Come on. We can't just stand around all night.” Rainbow insists.
50.
51. > Fluttershy nods in agreement.
52. > She starts to trek out into the street.
53. > The first thing she notices is the city scape around her.
54. > It blew her mind.
55. > It was not their height was incredible, but the fact that these buildings were built of earthly materials, like glass and mortar.
56. > It was not uncommon to see buildings this tall in her hometown of Cloudsdale.
57. > But the difference was those buildings were bonded together with clouds and a touch of magic.
58. > And as far as she was concerned they had no such luxuries.
59.
60. > “Hey. Fluttershy, I have a feeling we might find them if we spl-”
61. > A loud crashing sound interrupts her.
62. > It didn't sound close, but was still loud enough to put the ponies on edge.
63. > “W-What was that!?” Fluttershy asks.
64. > “It sounded like it was coming from over there!” Rainbow shouts, pointing at the city's Business District.
65. > “Come on!” Rainbow Dash shouts, sprinting down the snowy street.
66. > “Wait! What if it's not safe? I don't think this is such a good idea!”
67. > “Got a better plan!? Besides, you're the one that's worried about everypony else!” Rainbow shouts. “What if they're down this way?”
68. > “I-I don't thi- Woah!”
69. > Rainbow Dash grabs her by the hoof and starts to drag her in the sky.
70. > “We don't have time for this!” Rainbow shouts.
71. > The duo flew quickly and with grace, just barely scraping the snowy ground beneath them.
72.
73. > Dragged against her will, Fluttershy can't do much to resist.
74. > Rainbow was such a strong flier that she could easily drag her about with little trouble.
75. > But fear was still lingering in the back of Flutterhy's mind.
76. > This place was a ghost town.
77. > Not a single soul in sight.
78. > Something about that was painfully eerie in itself.
79. > As they neared closer and closer to their destination, the city's condition only seemed to deteriorate.
80. > More and more craters filled the streets.
81. > Buildings began to topple over on each other.
82. > And mysterious lumps of snow began to appear in the middle of the street.
83. > Something wasn't right.
84. > And Fluttershy knew it in the pit of her heart.
85. > Another explosion rattled throughout the city.
86. > This one so loud that it left Rainbow to a screeching halt.
87. > She landed and released Fluttershy onto the snow.
88. > “W-What was that!?” Fluttershy whelps.
89. > “Shh. Shh! Quiet!” Rainbow Dash shouts.
90. > Her ear slightly twitching as she tries to listen in.
91. > Small gunfire erupts not too far from here.
92. > But off in the distance, a soft roaring sound can be heard.
93. > “W-What is that?” Fluttershy asks.
94. > Rainbow squints her eyes.
95. > “Look!” she shouts, pointing to the night.
96. > In the darkness of the night, she could barely make out the swirling trails that scattered about the sky.
97. > Jet fighters playing cat and mouse thousands of feet into the skies.
98. > Rainbow gawks at the fliers above as they move with speed and grace with the likes she's never seen.
99.
100. > “They're so good!...” she mutters, floating up to the skies above. “Maybe I can just-”
101. > “Rainbow Dash! Where are you going!” Fluttershy shouts from the ground.
102. > “Relax! I'm just going to get a closer look!” Rainbow Dash shouts, flying higher and higher in the skies.
103. > “But Rainbow!”
104. > “Relax!”
105.
106. > She reaches the top of the buildings, and breaks the cityscape.
107. > She can't believe her eyes.
108. > Hundreds.
109. > No.
110. > Thousands of buildings stretch for miles.
111. > Each one of them seemingly bigger than the rest.
112. > Her heart sinks for a moment.
113. > She'd underestimated the sheer size of the city.
114. > It's going to take a miracle to try to find the others here.
115. > And Rainbow Dash wasn't oblivious to the situation around here.
116. > The city was barren, looted and deserted and there had to be a legitimate reason for it.
117. > None of which could be good.
118. > Something happened here.
119. > Something awful.
120. > Worse part is, they're all stuck here until they can find Twilight.
121. > Her mind races.
122. > What if they don't find each other in time?
123. > What if something has happened to Twilight and the gang?
124.
> In reality, she was terrified.
125.
> But she couldn't let Fluttershy.
126.
> She had to be strong. If only for her.
127.
128. > Fluttershy trenches back and forth in the snow, her anxiety getting the best of her.
129. > “Rainbow!” she shouts, her voice echoing throughout the streets.
130. > “I don't think this is a good idea! Rainbow Dash! Please co-”
131. > Her voice is cut short.
132. > A series of bright red flash can be seen from a nearby rooftop.
133. > Followed by a thick mechanical chugging sound.
134. > It's absolutely deafening.
135. > And it leaves Fluttershy frozen in fear.
136.
137. ...
138.
139. > The mechanical noise stops.
140. > And Rainbow Dash plummets towards the ground.
141.
142. > Fluttershy's worst fears have come true.
143.
144. ----
145.
146. > You check your watch.
147. > It's nearing midnight.
148. > But the storm isn't letting up.
149. > You turn the windshield wipers as high as they go.
150. > Letting out a heavy sigh, you focus back on the road.
151. > Suddenly, your radio comes to life.
152. > “Overwatch to Charlie Three. Charlie Three please respond.”
153. > You reach above and grab the small radio transmitter dangling above.
154. “This is Charlie Three. Go ahead.”
155. > A few moments of silence pass before the booming voice returns.
156. > “Charlie Three, give me a SITREP. Find Strigon Six yet?”
157. “The pilot? No. I've yet to make contact with crash site. Still en route.”
158. > “No resistance?”
159. “None yet. It's all quiet on this end.”
160. > “Overwatch copies.”
161.
162. > You place the radio transmitter back in it's place, leaving the radio speaker on.
163. > At the very least, the radio chatter would keep you company.
164.
165. > “Overwatch. Overwatch. This is Eagle one.”
166. > “Overwatch Copies. Go ahead.”
167. > “This is Eagle One. Bombing run commence in fifteen minutes. But I've got friendlies that are still danger close. Ten clicks away. Advise.”
168. > “How are you on fuel?”
169. > “She's full.”
170. > “Solid copy, Eagle One. All friendlies in blast zone have been advised. Give a fly around and then commence run. That should give em' enough time to get the hell out of dodge.  Light's green Eagle One.”
171. > “Roger, Eagle One out.”
172. > …
173. > …
174. > “Ehhh. Overwatch? Bravo Three here. I've got something on radar. Looks small. Maybe it's a bird. But it could be a drone. Maybe one of ours? Please advise.”
175. > “Overwatch copies. Where exactly?”
176. > “Just a few clicks south of the Business District.... Altitude still climbing.”
177. > “Overwatch copies.... We haven't issued for an active UAV for that A.O. What's its current position?”
178. > “It's still climbing. I think it might be a hostile ECM jammer. Bravo Three requesting permission to engage.”
179. > “Permission granted.”
180. > “Bravo Three copies. Guns away....”
181. > A heavy barrage of AA Gunfire can be heard over the radio for but a split second
182. > “Shit. I ain't getting anymore radar spikes. Maybe it was a bird?”
183. > “Better safe than sorry. Overwatch copies all.”
184.
185. > A small beeping noise comes from your on board GPS.
186. > You've arrived.
187. > AS you turn the corner, you pull into a wide city block.
188. > And just as expected, the plane's wreckage is smack dab in the middle.
189. > You set the APC to neutral and gather your things.
190. > As you step outside, the cold winter wind nips at your skin.
191. > It's cold.
192. > Almost too cold.
193. > You flick on your flashlight and head towards the crash site.
194. > But the white of the storm makes it difficult to traverse.
195. “Hello!?” you shout.
196. > No response.
197. > It's not like you were expecting any.
198. > You finally get close enough to see the crash.
199. > It's brutal.
200. > Bits and pieces of shrapnel is everywhere.
201. > The wreckage is up in flames.
202. > There's no way the pilot could have survived.
203. > You clench your gut and make your way to the cockpit, preparing yourself for the worst.
204. > By now, you've become desensitized to the gore that comes with this job, but it's still heartbreaking to see a fellow comrade in pieces.
205. > But it's empty.
206. “Wha-” you stutter.
207. > You draw your pistol and remove the safety.
208. “Hello!? Strigon six!? Hello!”
209. > Save for the howling winds the street was quiet.
210. > You shine your flashlight into the cockpit.
211. > His harness was undone and his helmet is still attached.
212. > Someone pulled him out.
213. > A cold shiver runs down your spine as you realize you're not alone.
214. > But the question arises.
215. > Why would anyone pull him out?
216. > Unless...
217. > He was still alive.
218. > The hairs on your neck stand on end.
219. > Hopefully we wasn't taken in by the rebels.
220. > You've seen with your own eyes what the resistance does with it's captives.
221. > It's not humane.
222. > They'd do anything to break a man for information.
223. > You glance down.
224. > There's a small trail of blood along with several other footprints.
225. > You ready your pistol and follow the trail.
226. > The pilot was dragged along the snow.
227. > It didn't look like he put up much of a fight.
228. > Regardless, the trail isn't hard to follow.
229. > It leads not too far.
230. > And ends in front of a nearby store.
231. > Like the rest of the buildings in this street, the front end has been mostly boarded up.
232. > The door has been kicked in however.
233. > A small sliver of light fades through.
234. > You hear voices on the other end of the door.
235. > Soft voices.
236. > It sounds like two young girls.
237. > You press your ear against the door.
238. > The blizzard picks up even more, and it's winds howl even greater.
239. > You can't really make out what those inside are saying.
240. > But whatever it is, you pay no mind to it.
241. > You've got a job to finish.
242. > Your heart races.
243. > Your arm trembles as you reach for the door handle.
244.
245. ---
246.
247. “Please!” Fluttershy cries out. “Do something!”
248. > She tugs at the pants of the human in front of her.
249. > He is tall.
250. > He's soaked to the bone in salt water.
251. > And he's dressed in ragged clothing that looks like it's going to fall off.
252. > Just soon after Rainbow Dash fell, he emerged from a nearby sewer.
253. > Needless to say, he was shocked.
254. > But the initial emotions soon faded with the gravity of the situation.
255. > Without so much as a second thought, he ran to Rainbow Dash's aid.
256. > The man is quick with his movements.
257. > He pulls out a small satchel and wraps Rainbow's wing in a thick gauze.
258. > It turns a deep red with blood.
259. > Rainbow Dash is unconscious.
260. > But her body is still trembling with a mix of cold and pain.
261. “I-Is she going to be alright!?” Fluttershy shouts.
262. > The man offers no response.
263. > Instead, he pulls out a small syringe from his satchel and injects Rainbow with it's contents.
264. > Rainbow's face and body relaxed for a bit.
265. > Whatever it was it seems to have worked.
266. “W-What did you do to her!?” Fluttershy shouts.
267. > The man runs his hand along Rainbow's wing.
268. > It's bent out of place.
269. > Even the slightest touch cause to twitch in pain.
270. > He grits his teeth and grasps her wing.
271. > Rainbow Dash writhes in pain as he sets her wing.
272. > But he's quick.
273. > And he sets her wing back with a satisfying 'POP'
274. “R-Rainbow!?” Fluttershy asks.
275. > The man wraps carefully wraps Rainbow in a small blanket.
276. > He takes off one his coats and places it over Fluttershy's shoulders.
277. > He lifts Rainbow Dash up and throws her over his shoulder.
278. “Where are you taking her?!” Fluttershy asks.
279. > The man doesn't respond. But instead notions for her to follow him.
280. “H-Hey! Answer me!” Fluttershy shouts, tugging at his pants.
281. > The man stops.
282. > He speaks in a strange language that must be local to the area.
283. > He points to various spots in the buildings as he speaks.
284. > Occasionally he even gestures to the planes flying high above.
285. > But the message is lost in translation.
286. > Fluttershy simply nods her head in confusion.
287. > The man sighs.
288. > The man kneels down in front of Fluttershy.
289. > He holds out his right hand. “Anonymous.”
290.
291. “Fluttershy.” she meekly responds
292. > Fluttershy takes his hand and returns the handshake.
293. > Unlike the harsh winter weather around them, his hand is warm and inviting.
