  1. >Rainbow Dash sits patiently in her kitchen, a pair of candlesticks standing tall in the center of her table.
  2. >She isn't the best cook, but Dash prepared a meal that she thought Anon might enjoy.
  3. >A fine salad with all the fixings that she always imagined he would like.
  4. >Rainbow hopes that he'll be okay with that.
  5. >Meat is just too hard to find, even if he'd like it.
  6. >She waits with an expectant smile on her face.
  7. >Hoping that tonight, the night of her birth-iversary might be the night he finally shows up.
  8.
  9. >The candles burn with an evergreen scent, and crackle quietly.
  10. >Still she sits, hooves resting atop her table.
  11. >Maybe a slice of cake would have been better?
  12. >Rainbow chides herself for not saving a slice especially for him.
  13. >Of course he would prefer cake!
  14. >Stupid, stupid.
  15. >Hopefully he still comes.
  16.
  17. >The candles are close to their stumps.
  18. >And Anon still hasn't shown up.
  19. >Her house is silent, not a sound to be heard apart from her longing sighs.
  20. >There's always next year.
  21.
  22. >Dash looks at the empty seat in front out her and imagines him there, smiling at her like she's the only pony in the world.
  23. >But no matter how much she wishes for it...
  24. >She sniffs, brushing her muzzle with a hoof.
  25. >...He's still just an empty seat.
  26.
  27. >The small pegasus slowly blows out the candles in front of her, delaying slightly as she does so in the vain hope that maybe he'll materialize in front of her.
  28. >But it's clear that he won't.
  29.
  30. >There's always next year...
  31. >The last candle fades on it's own, bathing Rainbow Dash in the darkness of her home.
  32. >...There's always next year...
  33.

  35.
  36. >Applejack rests on a hill, laying peacefully with her legs folded in and basking in the starry night sky.
  37. >She gazes upward, her green eyes watching the stars intently while a cool breeze runs through her mane.
  38. >Then she finally sees it; a shooting star soaring across the sky.
  39. >And she wishes.
  40. >The same wish she's had for a long time now.
  41.
  42. "Ah wish Anon were here."
  43. >She says plainly, eyes closed.
  44. >Applejack pauses, not wanting to open her eyes and see nothing.
  45. >But he's never going to be there.
  46. >He never is.
  47.
  48. >She opens them at last, her pupils wandering along the scenery, scanning for any signs of life.
  49. >The farm pony looks to her side.
  50. >And she could swear that he's there with a warm arm draped over her, comforting her during the cold night.
  51.
  52. >AJ smiles to herself as the illusion fades and she's once again left alone.
  53. >If she only keeps wishing...
  54. >...Maybe someday he'll be there.
  55.
  56. >Someday.
  57.
  58. -
  59.
  60. >Rarity flicks off the lights in Carousel Boutique, ready to fetch a little beauty sleep.
  61. >She lingers a moment in the darkness, thinking.
  62. >If only she wasn't alone tonight.
  63. >If only Anonymous was standing beside her.
  64. >He'd carry her off to bed, cradling her small form like the gooey romantic he is.
  65. >Rarity swings her tail from side to side as she wonders about what could be.
  66. >All she can find is the present:
  67. >Empty, lonely.
  68.
  69. >Rarity finds her bed.
  70. >Well made and cozy.
  71. >Not to mention just big enough for a certain someone.
  72. >She climbs in and hugs her pillow, quietly whimpering at the truth that constantly confronts her.
  73. >He'll never lay with her on a stormy night, providing warm shelter from the booming thunder.
  74. >He'll never be the big spoon, cuddling her and lovingly running a hand through her frazzled mane.
  75.
  76. >If only he wasn't a world away.
  77. >If only he wasn't the last person on her mind everyday.
  78. >If only he was here.
  79.
  80. >She clings tightly to the pillow, reminding herself to believe.
  81. >He'll turn up eventually.
  82. >And they'll be happy.
  83. >...If only.
  84.
  85. -
  86.
  87. >Celestia stands before a crowd of ponies, all of them eager to see her raise the sun, as is tradition.
  88. >The crowd whoops and hollers, bursting with excitement.
  89. >Celestia smiles at her subjects while she looks through them, searching.
  90. >Searching for Anonymous.
  91. >She even reserved a seat for him up front like she does every Summer Sun Celebration.
  92. >He never shows, but maybe this time he will.
  93.
  94. >Luna flies in and lands beside her, ready to assume her role.
  95. >The seat remains vacant.
  96. >But maybe he's late.
  97.
  98. "It honors me to see you all gathered here today..."
  99. >She begins, eyes darting back to the empty space in front of her.
  100.
  101. "...For the Summer Sun celebration."
  102. >Celestia struggles to maintain a peaceful grin.
  103. >Hopefully he'll show.
  104.
  105. >Luna jumps into the air, hovering with hooves raised above her head as she begins to lower the moon.
  106. >Reluctantly, Celestia joins her sister in the sky and closes her eyes while she pulls the sun up.
  107. >The seat is empty, but she imagines him there with the others.
  108. >Cheering for her, standing tall and chanting her name.
  109. >Giving her confidence and filling her with the same glee one would expect from a young filly.
  110.
  111. >But a quick peek reminds her that he's not there.
  112. >He never is.
  113.
  114. >The Sun rises behind her head at last, and the moon drops out of sight.
  115. >The Princess opens her eyes and descends back to Earth, eyes focused on the one person in Equestria that isn't there while the crowd sits stunned.
  116. >She sighs, and her gaze falls to the floor.
  117.
  118. >Next time he'll show.
  119. >It's only a year from now.
  120. >Anon will be there.
  121. >She knows it.
  122. >Just one more year.
