Title: Lost in the Woods Author: CosmicLightning Pastebin link: http://pastebin.com/fztMidP7 First Edit: Thursday 19th of April 2012 10:18:33 PM CDT Last Edit: Thursday 19th of April 2012 10:18:33 PM CDT >Wake up in the middle of a dark forest. >Massive headache. >Whatever, at least it’s dark. >The last thing you knew you were at work being attacked by a tornado. >As you look around you hear a low, evil laugh growing further away. >Not good. >You slowly get up spin around. “Who’s there?” >Silence. “Show yourself coward!” >Again, the only response is silence. >You have no idea where you are. >That thing must know where it’s going; you decide to follow the direction the sound came from. >You walk for what seems like 2 hours before light finally makes its way into the dense foliage. >The eerie glow of the forest sends a shiver down your spine. >Damn twilight hour. >The sound of running water can be heard as you move forward. “At least I can get a drink.” >You kneel next to a wide river and splash water on your face. >you do this a few times hoping to bring down your headache before taking a drink.     >Great, your thirst is quenched. >your eyes scan the river bank looking for a way to possibly cross. >As the sun rises over the top of the trees you can see a large tree trunk lying across the river further down river. >It looks like the river picks up just before the would-be bridge. >you approach the tree and find that it only makes it about 3 quarters of the way across. >You’re not the best swimmer but it’s only a river how fast could it possibly be moving? >1 foot in front of the other, you begin to walk across the tree with your arms outstretched to keep your balance. >Reaching the end of the tree, you take note that you can’t see the bottom of the river. “Shit…” >You reach behind you and rip off part of a branch. >You throw it straight down, it doesn’t resurface. >Break off another branch and push it into the water. >The current rips it out of your hands. >You just stare at it as it swiftly floats away. >Whatever, it’s just a stick right? >You’re a full grown man; it couldn’t possible sweep you away. >You jump in and couldn’t be more wrong. >The water not only pulls you downstream, it pulls you back to the center of the river. >NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE! >Desperately you try to swim your way back to shore but the current picks up and tires you out quickly. “HELP!” >Who’s going to fucking hear you?     “HELP!” >All hope seems lost. >Just then you notice a rope land on top of you. >In one swift motion you wrap the rope around your arm and grab on. >You may not be able to do a pull up but damnit you can pull your ass out of a river. >The water rushes against your face preventing you from seeing who your savior is. >Fuck it, you can thank them when you get out. >As you reach the shore line, you drop the rope and crawl onto dry land. >Flopping onto your back you close your eyes and just breathe for a minute. >As you catch your breath you speak out loud. “Thank… you… so… much…” >You turn to see the other end of the rope is tied to another tree. >Thank you tree, you saved my life. >Wait… >Trees can’t throw ropes. >You look into the woods just beyond the shore and see a figure peeking out behind some bushes. “Hey!” >It literally takes off flying through the woods. >Through the rays of sun you can a rainbow of colors trailing behind this thing. >At least it’s not a shadow. “WAIT!” >It doesn’t stop. >You run after it.     “HEY SLOW DOWN!” >It’s moving away from you too fast for you to catch up. >You stop running. “I JUST WANTED TO SAY…” >They’re gone. “…thank you…” >You walk for a short time before coming up to a clearing. >This looks like a good spot. >You take off your wet clothes and lay them flat on the grass. “This could take a while.” >You find a comfy spot on the ground and sprawl out in the sun. >It’s a tiny clearing; no one should walk up and see you lying here. >You shut your eyes and just lay there until you’re dry. >Better check on my clothes. >Still damp, but you decide you’ve wasted enough time and put your clothes back on. >When you move out of the clearing you hear something rocket away using the bushes as cover. >Okay. >You continue your walk. >This side of the river is much more pleasant than the other. >It doesn’t seem so dark and oppressive. >After a while you stumble across a path. “Finally some direction.” >You follow the path for an hour before you see what looks like houses in the distance. >Yes! >Now you can get the hell home!
