- >Wake up in the middle of a dark forest.
- >Massive headache.
- >Whatever, at least it’s dark.
- >The last thing you knew you were at work being attacked by a tornado.
- >As you look around you hear a low, evil laugh growing further away.
- >Not good.
- >You slowly get up spin around.
- “Who’s there?”
- >Silence.
- “Show yourself coward!”
- >Again, the only response is silence.
- >You have no idea where you are.
- >That thing must know where it’s going; you decide to follow the direction the sound came from.
- >You walk for what seems like 2 hours before light finally makes its way into the dense foliage.
- >The eerie glow of the forest sends a shiver down your spine.
- >Damn twilight hour.
- >The sound of running water can be heard as you move forward.
- “At least I can get a drink.”
- >You kneel next to a wide river and splash water on your face.
- >you do this a few times hoping to bring down your headache before taking a drink.
- >Great, your thirst is quenched.
- >your eyes scan the river bank looking for a way to possibly cross.
- >As the sun rises over the top of the trees you can see a large tree trunk lying across the river further down river.
- >It looks like the river picks up just before the would-be bridge.
- >you approach the tree and find that it only makes it about 3 quarters of the way across.
- >You’re not the best swimmer but it’s only a river how fast could it possibly be moving?
- >1 foot in front of the other, you begin to walk across the tree with your arms outstretched to keep your balance.
- >Reaching the end of the tree, you take note that you can’t see the bottom of the river.
- “Shit…”
- >You reach behind you and rip off part of a branch.
- >You throw it straight down, it doesn’t resurface.
- >Break off another branch and push it into the water.
- >The current rips it out of your hands.
- >You just stare at it as it swiftly floats away.
- >Whatever, it’s just a stick right?
- >You’re a full grown man; it couldn’t possible sweep you away.
- >You jump in and couldn’t be more wrong.
- >The water not only pulls you downstream, it pulls you back to the center of the river.
- >NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE!
- >Desperately you try to swim your way back to shore but the current picks up and tires you out quickly.
- “HELP!”
- >Who’s going to fucking hear you?
- “HELP!”
- >All hope seems lost.
- >Just then you notice a rope land on top of you.
- >In one swift motion you wrap the rope around your arm and grab on.
- >You may not be able to do a pull up but damnit you can pull your ass out of a river.
- >The water rushes against your face preventing you from seeing who your savior is.
- >Fuck it, you can thank them when you get out.
- >As you reach the shore line, you drop the rope and crawl onto dry land.
- >Flopping onto your back you close your eyes and just breathe for a minute.
- >As you catch your breath you speak out loud.
- “Thank… you… so… much…”
- >You turn to see the other end of the rope is tied to another tree.
- >Thank you tree, you saved my life.
- >Wait…
- >Trees can’t throw ropes.
- >You look into the woods just beyond the shore and see a figure peeking out behind some bushes.
- “Hey!”
- >It literally takes off flying through the woods.
- >Through the rays of sun you can a rainbow of colors trailing behind this thing.
- >At least it’s not a shadow.
- “WAIT!”
- >It doesn’t stop.
- >You run after it.
- “HEY SLOW DOWN!”
- >It’s moving away from you too fast for you to catch up.
- >You stop running.
- “I JUST WANTED TO SAY…”
- >They’re gone.
- “…thank you…”
- >You walk for a short time before coming up to a clearing.
- >This looks like a good spot.
- >You take off your wet clothes and lay them flat on the grass.
- “This could take a while.”
- >You find a comfy spot on the ground and sprawl out in the sun.
- >It’s a tiny clearing; no one should walk up and see you lying here.
- >You shut your eyes and just lay there until you’re dry.
- >Better check on my clothes.
- >Still damp, but you decide you’ve wasted enough time and put your clothes back on.
- >When you move out of the clearing you hear something rocket away using the bushes as cover.
- >Okay.
- >You continue your walk.
- >This side of the river is much more pleasant than the other.
- >It doesn’t seem so dark and oppressive.
- >After a while you stumble across a path.
- “Finally some direction.”
- >You follow the path for an hour before you see what looks like houses in the distance.
- >Yes!
- >Now you can get the hell home!
