- [ONE] Strung Out
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >Day something in Equestria.
- >You'd stopped counting, you'd been here for so long.
- >If you ever wanted to know how long it’d been since your transportation to this wonderful world all you needed to do was ask Twilight.
- >Twilight had been keeping count - she said she did it subconsciously..
- >But now, you had to keep focused.
- >
- >”Anonymous, can you carry these for me please?”
- >You had earned a job with Orchestra.
- >Granted, it wasn't the greatest job in the world.
- >Everyday all you would do is help move things around.
- >Everyday.
- >For six hours.
- >But you were at least thankful that you had a job.
- >You'd attempted to get jobs before but most didn't see a way you could help.
- >Only Rarity found a use for your hands, but you didn't really like fashion...
- >"Anonymous?"
- >Your train of thought was interrupted by Octavia's voice.
- "Oh, Sorry"
- >"It's quite alright, just do hurry - I hardly want to walk alone in the dark tonight."
- >Octavia had always shown the utmost class around you. Well, she did with everyone - but she did so even more with you.
- >You lifted the instrument cases from the ground.
- >You looked for Octavia but couldn't see her. She must have already left the stage floor
- >"Anonymous, Where are you going?"
- >You spun around to her voice.
- "Sorry, I didn't see you walk around me."
- >She shook her head slightly after a moment.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >"Okay, Put the cases in the locker rooms, I'm sure they will be fine in there."
- "Sure thing Ta-Octavia"
- >Being around Vinyl and Octavia was having its toll on you.
- >Octavia didn't like it when you called her Tavi. She didn't like it when anyone other than Vinyl did.
- >"I heard that Anon, but I suppose its a hard habit to kick, especially when you spend so much free time with Ms Scratch."
- "Hey, I don't spend that much time with Vinyl!"
- >"Sure you don't, just everyday...After work...For about 5 hours."
- >Octavia has you there.
- >You'd not noticed how much time you actually spent with her.
- >"Anypony would think you were dating, the amount of time you spent together."
- "WHAT?!"
- >Octavia stepped back at your outburst.
- "DATING?! VINYL?! HAH!"
- >Octavia continued to move backwards from you.
- >"A-Anonymous..I didn't mea-"
- >You suddenly realized that you'd made Octavia back against the wall, and that you were shouting at her.
- "O-Octavia..I didn't mean to...I'm..I'm sorry"
- >She was still backed against the wall, her eyes closed tight.
- >You set the cases down and fell to your knees.
- "I'm sorry Octavia...I didn't mean to shout at you...I didn't mean any of th-"
- >"Anonymous, stop. It's..It's okay."
- >You looked up at Octavia, who had now regained her posture.
- >"I was teasing you, but obviously it's a very touchy subject."
- "I still feel as though I need to apologize..."
- >It was true, you felt as though you had hit her, not shouted at her
- "Please, if there's anyway I can make this up to you... anything..tell me..."
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >"Very well Anonymous, I'll not hold you to this - but if I ever need company OTHER than Vinyl..."
- >She paused for a moment
- >"I'll come find you."
- >A sudden sense of relief washed over you - she could have quite easily fired you right then and there.
- A few days after the Incident with Octavia.
- >You're sitting on a bench near Ponyville's park.
- >You look up into the sky and watch a few pegasi darting around clearing the skies.
- >You sigh, still feeling guilty for shouting at Octavia.
- >"Anon? Whatcha' doing?"
- >You turn your head to the voice
- "Oh..hey Vinyl..."
- >She hopped up next to you.
- >"Something wrong?"
- >Her goggles reflected the sun right into your eyes
- >You looked away, squinting slightly
- "Everything's fine, I just needed a break is all."
- >Vinyl stared at you for a couple of seconds
- >"Liar."
- "What?"
- >"You're lying, now tell me what's wrong it."
- "Vinyl. Nothing is wrong."
- >She was starting to annoy you. Other ponies wouldn't persist
- >"Bullshit! I know when you aren't okay Anon!"
- "I'm not telling you, no matter what you do."
- >"Challenge Accepted."
- >Oh boy...
- >Vinyl started off by poking you and repeatedly asking for you to tell her what was wrong.
- >Slowly she got more and more annoying, her pokes became light jabs.
- >She started whining for you to answer her.
- >She tried to tickle you a few times but to no success, yet.
- >She gave up tickling and when back to whining and punching you - her whining horrible but it was still annoying.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >"JUST TELL ME ALREADY!"
- "Nope."
- >She laid her head on your leg and stared up at you, her red eyes locked onto yours
- >"Please?"
- >Those eyes, You couldn't resist her.
- "Fine."
- >She squeed with joy.
- "I shouted at Octavia..."
- >She stared at you for a moment
- >"..."
- "So.."
- >"Seriously."
- "What?"
- >"THAT is what you've been holding out on me?"
- >You thought for a moment
- "Yeah..."
- >"Lame."
- >She hopped of the bench and walked off into Ponyville.
- >That pony may be annoying, but she was probably your best friend here in Equestria.
- >Sure she would cause problems, but she sure as hell knew how to make you smile.
- >You began to think about what Octavia had said about you and Vinyl spending so much time together.
- >It was true, you had spent more time with Vinyl than anypony else.
- >"Um..Mister Anon?"
- >You looked to the source of the voice
- "Huh?"
- >"Down here..."
- >You looked down to see a small orange filly
- "Oh.. Uh, hey."
- >"I saw Octavia here in Ponyville earlier, thought you might want to know."
- "Thanks kid."
- >You ruffled her mane and she darted off.
- >You stood up and looked around for any sign of Octavia, with no success
- >She would probably be at the hotel or Rarity's Boutique. Or the spa, knowing her.
- >Okay one step at a time. First, the hotel.
- >You walked to and through the center of town, the quickest way to the hotel.
- >"Hey! I did not!"
- >"Did too! 'Am tellin' Ahpple Jack!"
- >You looked at the two fillies and tried to remember their names
- >"Applebloom, it was a joke! I didn't really mean it!"
- >Okay the yellow one is Applebloom, that meant the other must be eith-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >"Ah don't believe ya' Sweetie Belle!"
- >Never mind...
- "Hey, what's going on here?"
- >The two fillies stopped their little argument and turned to you
- "Well?"
- >"She started it!" they both yelled in unison
- "O...kay"
- >You looked between them
- "Started what exactly?"
- >Sweetie took a breath to begin, but Applebloom had already started
- >"-Then she said it was a joke and-"
- "Woah, hey hold on."
- >She stopped and looked up at you again
- "Slower. Please."
- >She nodded and began again
- >"Sweetie bell came over here-"
- "Okay."
- >"-and she said that she knew how we could get our Cutie Marks!"
- "Wait wait wait."
- >You tilted your head to the side and looked at Applebloom's flank
- "You don't have a cutie mark yet?"
- >"No! We've spent ages trying to get one!" Sweetie piped up.
- "Okay, carry on."
- >"She said I could get it if I stopped selling silly apples!"
- >"It was a joke, Appleboom!" Sweetie interrupted.
- "I'm sure she didn't mean it Applebloom. Why don't you two make up? I need to get going."
- >"Fine," they said together
- >You walked off letting them argue again, at least you tried.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >You strolled towards the hotel, looking around for any sign of Octavia.
- >As you reached the hotel doors, you paused and looked around.
- >You shook it off and walked inside.
- >"Welcome Mister Anonymous," said one of the security guard ponies
- "Thanks," you answer as you continued to the desk.
- >You stopped at the small desk and looked at the pony behind it.
- >"Hello and wel-" she managed to say before you interrupted
- "I'd like to know if Octavia has booked in recently."
- >You looked at the pony for a moment.
- "Sorry for interrupting."
- >"No problem."
- "Yes, I know she has and since I haven't seen her leave she's probably still upstairs."
- "Okay, mind if I go up to see her?"
- >"Not at all."
- >You nodded and walked towards the stairs.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >It wasn't long until you reached Octavia's suite, just a short walk up the stairs.
- >You took a breath before knocking on the door.
- >"Who is it?" you heard Octavia say from beyond the door.
- "It's me." you replied.
- >"Oh, come in."
- >You opened the door, to see Octavia laid on a large sofa.
- >You walked in, closing the door behind you
- "I, Uh..Heard you were in town...thought I'd drop by"
- >She looked at you for a moment, staring into your eyes.
- >"That's very thoughtful of you, Anon." she said, breaking the silence.
- >You felt a bit uncomfortable but fought through it.
- "So what brings you to town Octavia?"
- >"Oh..nothing much..just here to see some friends..." she replied, looking at the ground
- "Oh? Anyone I might know?"
- >You still felt uncomfortable, but whatever.
- >"I promised I'd meet up with Lyra for some practice and go to the spa with Rarity."
- >As she said this, she began drawing circles with her hoof on the sofa.
- "I don't suppose I can come watch you play?" you said watching Octavia closely.
- >Her eyes widened slightly, then returned to normal size.
- >"I suppose that would be okay..." she quietly answered.
- "Okay then. Anything else you want to talk about before I go?"
- >She paused her circle drawing for a moment
- "Octavia?"
- >"Oh..Um, I was just..thinking."
- >She looked at the clock that you'd failed to notice.
- >"Oh my we should get going, Lyra will be waiting!"
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >After walking for what felt like an hour, you finally reached a house.
- >It was near to the centre of Ponyville, which is odd seen as you'd walked for so long.
- >"Here we are!" Octavia exclaimed gleefully.
- "Finally.." you muttered under your breath
- >Octavia tapped on the door lightly, and smiled back at you.
- >"Oh! Hi Octavia!" Exclaimed the mint Unicorn.
- >You looked Lyra up and down slowly, and stopped at her cutie mark.
- >It was a lyre, seemed coincidental that she was called Lyra.
- >"Anonymous?" Octavia asked, once again breaking your train of thought.
- "Sorry...just thinking," You replied.
- >You walked into Lyra's home and looked around at the furnishings.
- >Obviously everything was smaller to you because of your size, but other than that it seemed like a pretty standard house.
- >"Anonymous, you can put Octavia's cello down over there if you like." Lyra said, walking inside behind Octavia.
- >You looked over to where she was pointing, seeing a group of chairs and a table.
- "Okay, will do." You replied
- >You realized why you felt so drained: you'd been carrying Octavia's cello this whole time.
- >You walked over to the table and rested the case down against it.
- >
- >Octavia and Lyra had chatted for about 30 minutes now, mainly about music but also affairs in Ponyville.
- >Lyra would often look over at you and giggle to herself, then return to conversation with Octavia.
- >Eventually they both got up and walked over to you and Octavia's Cello.
- >"I'll go get my lyre." Lyra said before darting off.
- >She was obviously eager to play.
- "I'll get you your cello, if you want."
- >"Why thank you, Anonymous." Octavia replied.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >You picked the case up and rested it down on the table's top.
- >You popped it open and looked at the instrument inside, it's wonderfully-polished surface gleaming in the light.
- >You took the cello and bow out carefully, and handed them to Octavia.
- "There ya' go," you said with a smile.
- >"Thank you, Anonymous" she answered, moving to one of the seats
- >At that moment Lyra came bounding down stairs, her lyre followed gripped by her magic.
- >You sat down on a chair across from Octavia.
- >Lyra positioned her lyre in front of her and waited for Octavia to begin.
- >"Ready when you are, Octavia," she said.
- >"Okay..." was the answer. For some reason, Octavia seemed distant.
- >The two of them began to play a not-so-familiar song, probably written quite recently.
- >Lyra was playing beautifully. She was using her magic to pluck each string.
- >Octavia seemed somewhat distracted but still played her piece--from what you could tell--perfectly.
- "That was amazing you two!" You shouted as Octavia got up.
- >"Thank you, Anonymous" Octavia replied, bringing her cello to its case.
- >Lyra was staring at Octavia for some reason, but you couldn't quite figure ou-
- >"Octavia! We aren't finished!" She shouted.
- >Octavia turned to face Lyra.
- >"Have you not learnt the rest?" asked Lyra.
- >You both waited for Octavia's reply.
- >"No," Octavia finally answered.
- >"I didn't find the time to."
- >"Oh..." replied a disappointed Lyra.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- "Do you want me to put away your cello?"
- >"It's fine, I'll do it." Octavia answered.
- >You looked at Lyra, who shrugged her shoulders.
- "Is something wrong Octavia?"
- >She looked at you for a moment.
- >"No," she harshly answered.
- >Quickly, she put away her cello and bow.
- >Lyra was still sat confused behind her.
- >"I'm going to go relax with Rarity at the spa," Octavia said picking up the cello case.
- >She carried the case to the door and set it down.
- >"I'll see you later Lyra."
- >She opened the door and carried the case
- >Octavia kicked the door shut, leaving you and Lyra alone.
- "That was odd," you said, breaking the silence.
- >"She's just stressed I think, the spa will help," Lyra replied quietly.
- >You got up and sat down next to Lyra.
- "I'd love to hear the rest of that song, if you've learnt it that is."
- >"Of course! I mean..of course," Lyra replied blushing.
- >She positioned herself again and began playing.
- >You watched each string be plucked by her magic
- >She continued to play for another two minutes before finally stopping.
- >You clapped and stood up cheering.
- "Lyra that was amazing!"
- >Lyra blushed again, this time a beautiful crimson colour.
- >"Anon, you say the sweetest things..." Lyra giggled.
- >This feeling.
- >This was not something you had felt before.
- >"Anon?" Lyra said, seeming worried.
- "Sorry, I was just thinking..."
- >"You seem to do that a lot" Lyra replied smiling.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >Lyra got down from her seat with a light thud.
- >"I'll go put my lyre away, you stay here!"
- >She darted off, her lyre following her.
- >You had time to think again.
- >You felt different around Lyra.
- >An indescribable feeling of happiness and comfort.
- >Lyra and you both seemed to get along perfectly...
- >But did she just see you as a friend?
- >
- >Lyra came darting back, a smile on her face.
- >She dived up at you, bringing you into a tight hug.
- "Ah! Lyra, wh-what are you doing?"
- >"Hugging you of course!"
- "Okay...but why..."
- >"Well, you're the nicest po-human I know!"
- >Okay, so Lyra likes you, you think.
- "So, umm..."
- >"What is it Anon?" Lyra said looking into your eyes.
- "What else do you do? Other than play your lyre?"
- >You tried to change the subject, as not to ruin something you weren't sure on.
- >Lyra looked at you puzzled for a second.
- >She snapped back to reality, and shook her head.
- >"Oh! I normally go meet up with Bon Bon!"
- "Bon Bon?"
- >"Yeah, she has a stall in Ponyville."
- "Really? What does she sell?"
- >"Sweets! All kinds too."
- "That sounds cool, I'd love to meet her."
- >Lyra thought for a moment.
- >"Then lets go meet her!"
- >She was still sat on you but didn't seem to realise.
- >"Well?"
- "You're kinda sat on me here."
- >"Oh right, sorry."
- >She hopped off you onto the floor
- >You got up and followed her as she walked to the door.
- >"Let's go then!" she shouted, leaving the house.
- >You walked out and shut the door behind you.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >Lyra was sat at her gate waiting for you.
- >She was obviously very eager for you to meet Bon Bon.
- >You walked up to her slowly.
- "Lets go then..."
- >"O-kay!"
- >The two of you walked along the roads of Ponyville, towards it's centre
- >Lyra darted to stalls in the distance.
- >"Come on Anon!" she shouted.
- "Hold on, I'm coming..."
- >You changed to a brisk pace to catch up with her.
- "You're very eager."
- >"Why wouldn't I be? Its always good to help people make new friends."
- >Lyra walked slower this time, staying along side you.
- >"You're going to love Bon Bon!"
- "Is that so?"
- >"Yeah, you could say..she's really...sweet."
- >You looked at Lyra for a second.
- >"You don't get it do you."
- >She was giggling to herself.
- >You finally caught on.
- "Oh!"
- >You laughed, continuing to follow Lyra.
- >She ran up to a stall being ran by a beige pony.
- >She had a two-tone mane and tail, blue and pink.
- >"Bon Bon!"
- >"Oh, hey Lyra!" replied Bon Bon.
- >You walked up to the two ponies, not interrupting their conversation
- >"Oh! Bon Bon, this is Anon!"
- >Bon Bon looked at you for a second, looking you up and down slowly.
- >She finally stopped and smiled.
- >"Nice to meet you Anon! I'm Bon Bon."
- "Nice to meet you too Bon Bon."
- >Lyra started to Bon Bon again. catching up on things that had happened.
- >You looked through Bon Bon's sweets on her stall for anything that might catch your eye.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- "Hmm.."
- >Bon Bon looked at you eyeing the glistening sweets.
- >"Anything you fancy, Anon?"
- >You looked over the sweets quickly again.
- "They all look great Bon Bon."
- >She smiled gleefully.
- "But I can't choose between them...And I have no bits."
- >She frowned for a moment
- >"Okay..."
- >Lyra looked at Bon Bon's sad expression.
- >"I'll buy you some Anon, if you want?" Lyra caringly said.
- >You looked at Bon Bon's expression.
- "Okay," you finally answered.
- >Bon Bon's face lit up.
- >"Okay Anon, which do you want?"
- >Great, now you're stumped.
- "Uhh.."
- >You quickly looked for the nicest ones on the stall.
- >You pointed to glistening blue and red gumdrops.
- >Lyra picked the bag up with her mouth and took it over to Bon Bon.
- >"Good choice Anon," Bon Bon chimed as she weighed them.
- >Lyra smiled at you.
- >You smiled back as her while she got her bits ready.
- >"3 bits, please"
- >Lyra put the money next to the sweets.
- >"Thank you for the business!"
- >Lyra took the sweets from the counter, and walked over to you.
- >You grinned at her cute face with the bag in her mouth.
- >She dropped the bag into your open hand, smiling back at you.
- "Thanks Lyra."
- >You took two sweets out of the small bag
- "Seen as you bought them, you should have the first one."
- >You held your hand out with a single sweet your palm.
- >She pulled it into her mouth with her slippery tongue.
- >Lyra chewed for a second then smiled up at you.
- >You placed the gumdrop into your mouth and chewed it.
- "Wow Lyra, these are really sweet!"
- >"You're really sweet..." Lyra quietly said.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- >You stopped in place.
- >Lyra looked at you worried slightly.
- >Slowly, you took in what she had just said.
- >"A-anon? You okay?" Lyra said, her expression not changing.
- >You pulled Lyra into a warm embrace.
- >She laid her fore hooves over your shoulders.
- >You both seemed to stay there forever, enjoying each other's warmth.
- >You sniffed her mane, it's dull musk filling your nostrils.
- >You ran your hand through her mane slowly.
- >Lyra pulled away slightly, so that you were nose to nose.
- >You stared into her beautiful eyes, the sun's rays causing them to sparkle.
- >You pressed your lips against hers, pushing her head back slightly.
- >To not spoil the moment you didn't use your tongue.
- >Finally, after an eternity, you released her back onto all fours.
- >"I guess, actions speak louder than words." She said blushing.
- >You felt a warm sensation on your cheeks.
- "Yes. Yes they do."
