  1. [ONE] Strung Out
  2.
  3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  4.
  5. >Day something in Equestria.
  6. >You'd stopped counting, you'd been here for so long.
  7. >If you ever wanted to know how long it’d been since your transportation to this wonderful world all you needed to do was ask Twilight.
  8. >Twilight had been keeping count - she said she did it subconsciously..
  9. >But now, you had to keep focused.
  10. >
  11. >”Anonymous, can you carry these for me please?”
  12. >You had earned a job with Orchestra.
  13. >Granted, it wasn't the greatest job in the world.
  14. >Everyday all you would do is help move things around.
  15. >Everyday.
  16. >For six hours.
  17. >But you were at least thankful that you had a job.
  18. >You'd attempted to get jobs before but most didn't see a way you could help.
  19. >Only Rarity found a use for your hands, but you didn't really like fashion...
  20. >"Anonymous?"
  21. >Your train of thought was interrupted by Octavia's voice.
  22. "Oh, Sorry"
  23. >"It's quite alright, just do hurry - I hardly want to walk alone in the dark tonight."
  24. >Octavia had always shown the utmost class around you. Well, she did with everyone - but she did so even more with you.
  25. >You lifted the instrument cases from the ground.
  26. >You looked for Octavia but couldn't see her. She must have already left the stage floor
  27. >"Anonymous, Where are you going?"
  28. >You spun around to her voice.
  29. "Sorry, I didn't see you walk around me."
  30. >She shook her head slightly after a moment.
  31.
  32. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  33.
  34. >"Okay, Put the cases in the locker rooms, I'm sure they will be fine in there."
  35. "Sure thing Ta-Octavia"
  36. >Being around Vinyl and Octavia was having its toll on you.
  37. >Octavia didn't like it when you called her Tavi. She didn't like it when anyone other than Vinyl did.
  38. >"I heard that Anon, but I suppose its a hard habit to kick, especially when you spend so much free time with Ms Scratch."
  39. "Hey, I don't spend that much time with Vinyl!"
  40. >"Sure you don't, just everyday...After work...For about 5 hours."
  41. >Octavia has you there.
  42. >You'd not noticed how much time you actually spent with her.
  43. >"Anypony would think you were dating, the amount of time you spent together."
  44. "WHAT?!"
  45. >Octavia stepped back at your outburst.
  46. "DATING?! VINYL?! HAH!"
  47. >Octavia continued to move backwards from you.
  48. >"A-Anonymous..I didn't mea-"
  49. >You suddenly realized that you'd made Octavia back against the wall, and that you were shouting at her.
  50. "O-Octavia..I didn't mean to...I'm..I'm sorry"
  51. >She was still backed against the wall, her eyes closed tight.
  52. >You set the cases down and fell to your knees.
  53. "I'm sorry Octavia...I didn't mean to shout at you...I didn't mean any of th-"
  54. >"Anonymous, stop. It's..It's okay."
  55. >You looked up at Octavia, who had now regained her posture.
  56. >"I was teasing you, but obviously it's a very touchy subject."
  57. "I still feel as though I need to apologize..."
  58. >It was true, you felt as though you had hit her, not shouted at her
  59. "Please, if there's anyway I can make this up to you... anything..tell me..."
  60.
  61. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  62.
  63. >"Very well Anonymous, I'll not hold you to this - but if I ever need company OTHER than Vinyl..."
  64. >She paused for a moment
  65. >"I'll come find you."
  66. >A sudden sense of relief washed over you - she could have quite easily fired you right then and there.
  67.
  68. A few days after the Incident with Octavia.
  69.
  70. >You're sitting on a bench near Ponyville's park.
  71. >You look up into the sky and watch a few pegasi darting around clearing the skies.
  72. >You sigh, still feeling guilty for shouting at Octavia.
  73. >"Anon? Whatcha' doing?"
  74. >You turn your head to the voice
  75. "Oh..hey Vinyl..."
  76. >She hopped up next to you.
  77. >"Something wrong?"
  78. >Her goggles reflected the sun right into your eyes
  79. >You looked away, squinting slightly
  80. "Everything's fine, I just needed a break is all."
  81. >Vinyl stared at you for a couple of seconds
  82. >"Liar."
  83. "What?"
  84. >"You're lying, now tell me what's wrong  it."
  85. "Vinyl. Nothing is wrong."
  86. >She was starting to annoy you. Other ponies wouldn't persist
  87. >"Bullshit! I know when you aren't okay Anon!"
  88. "I'm not telling you, no matter what you do."
  89. >"Challenge Accepted."
  90. >Oh boy...
  91. >Vinyl started off by poking you and repeatedly asking for you to tell her what was wrong.
  92. >Slowly she got more and more annoying, her pokes became light jabs.
  93. >She started whining for you to answer her.
  94. >She tried to tickle you a few times but to no success, yet.
  95. >She gave up tickling and when back to whining and punching you - her whining horrible but it was still annoying.
  96.
  97. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  98.
  99. >"JUST TELL ME ALREADY!"
  100. "Nope."
  101. >She laid her head on your leg and stared up at you, her red eyes locked onto yours
  102. >"Please?"
  103. >Those eyes, You couldn't resist her.
  104. "Fine."
  105. >She squeed with joy.
  106. "I shouted at Octavia..."
  107. >She stared at you for a moment
  108. >"..."
  109. "So.."
  110. >"Seriously."
  111. "What?"
  112. >"THAT is what you've been holding out on me?"
  113. >You thought for a moment
  114. "Yeah..."
  115. >"Lame."
  116. >She hopped of the bench and walked off into Ponyville.
  117. >That pony may be annoying, but she was probably your best friend here in Equestria.
  118. >Sure she would cause problems, but she sure as hell knew how to make you smile.
  119. >You began to think about what Octavia had said about you and Vinyl spending so much time together.
  120. >It was true, you had spent more time with Vinyl than anypony else.
  121. >"Um..Mister Anon?"
  122. >You looked to the source of the voice
  123. "Huh?"
  124. >"Down here..."
  125. >You looked down to see a small orange filly
  126. "Oh.. Uh, hey."
  127. >"I saw Octavia here in Ponyville earlier, thought you might want to know."
  128. "Thanks kid."
  129. >You ruffled her mane and she darted off.
  130. >You stood up and looked around for any sign of Octavia, with no success
  131. >She would probably be at the hotel or Rarity's Boutique. Or the spa, knowing her.
  132. >Okay one step at a time. First, the hotel.
  133. >You walked to and through the center of town, the quickest way to the hotel.
  134. >"Hey! I did not!"
  135. >"Did too! 'Am tellin' Ahpple Jack!"
  136. >You looked at the two fillies and tried to remember their names
  137. >"Applebloom, it was a joke! I didn't really mean it!"
  138. >Okay the yellow one is Applebloom, that meant the other must be eith-
  139.
  140. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  141.
  142. >"Ah don't believe ya' Sweetie Belle!"
  143. >Never mind...
  144. "Hey, what's going on here?"
  145. >The two fillies stopped their little argument and turned to you
  146. "Well?"
  147. >"She started it!" they both yelled in unison
  148. "O...kay"
  149. >You looked between them
  150. "Started what exactly?"
  151. >Sweetie took a breath to begin, but Applebloom had already started
  152. >"-Then she said it was a joke and-"
  153. "Woah, hey hold on."
  154. >She stopped and looked up at you again
  155. "Slower. Please."
  156. >She nodded and began again
  157. >"Sweetie bell came over here-"
  158. "Okay."
  159. >"-and she said that she knew how we could get our Cutie Marks!"
  160. "Wait wait wait."
  161. >You tilted your head to the side and looked at Applebloom's flank
  162. "You don't have a cutie mark yet?"
  163. >"No! We've spent ages trying to get one!" Sweetie piped up.
  164. "Okay, carry on."
  165. >"She said I could get it if I stopped selling silly apples!"
  166. >"It was a joke, Appleboom!" Sweetie interrupted.
  167. "I'm sure she didn't mean it Applebloom. Why don't you two make up? I need to get going."
  168. >"Fine," they said together
  169. >You walked off letting them argue again, at least you tried.
  170.
  171. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  172.
  173. >You strolled towards the hotel, looking around for any sign of Octavia.
  174. >As you reached the hotel doors, you paused and looked around.
  175. >You shook it off and walked inside.
  176. >"Welcome Mister Anonymous," said one of the security guard ponies
  177. "Thanks," you answer as you continued to the desk.
  178. >You stopped at the small desk and looked at the pony behind it.
  179. >"Hello and wel-" she managed to say before you interrupted
  180. "I'd like to know if Octavia has booked in recently."
  181. >You looked at the pony for a moment.
  182. "Sorry for interrupting."
  183. >"No problem."
  184. "Yes, I know she has and since I haven't seen her leave she's probably still upstairs."
  185. "Okay, mind if I go up to see her?"
  186. >"Not at all."
  187. >You nodded and walked towards the stairs.
  188.
  189. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  190.
  191. >It wasn't long until you reached Octavia's suite, just a short walk up the stairs.
  192. >You took a breath before knocking on the door.
  193. >"Who is it?" you heard Octavia say from beyond the door.
  194. "It's me." you replied.
  195. >"Oh, come in."
  196. >You opened the door, to see Octavia laid on a large sofa.
  197. >You walked in, closing the door behind you
  198. "I, Uh..Heard you were in town...thought I'd drop by"
  199. >She looked at you for a moment, staring into your eyes.
  200. >"That's very thoughtful of you, Anon." she said, breaking the silence.
  201. >You felt a bit uncomfortable but fought through it.
  202. "So what brings you to town Octavia?"
  203. >"Oh..nothing much..just here to see some friends..." she replied, looking at the ground
  204. "Oh? Anyone I might know?"
  205. >You still felt uncomfortable, but whatever.
  206. >"I promised I'd meet up with Lyra for some practice and go to the spa with Rarity."
  207. >As she said this, she began drawing circles with her hoof on the sofa.
  208. "I don't suppose I can come watch you play?" you said watching Octavia closely.
  209. >Her eyes widened slightly, then returned to normal size.
  210. >"I suppose that would be okay..." she quietly answered.
  211. "Okay then. Anything else you want to talk about before I go?"
  212. >She paused her circle drawing for a moment
  213. "Octavia?"
  214. >"Oh..Um, I was just..thinking."
  215. >She looked at the clock that you'd failed to notice.
  216. >"Oh my we should get going, Lyra will be waiting!"
  217.
  218. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  219.
  220. >After walking for what felt like an hour, you finally reached a house.
  221. >It was near to the centre of Ponyville, which is odd seen as you'd walked for so long.
  222. >"Here we are!" Octavia exclaimed gleefully.
  223. "Finally.." you muttered under your breath
  224. >Octavia tapped on the door lightly, and smiled back at you.
  225. >"Oh! Hi Octavia!" Exclaimed the mint Unicorn.
  226. >You looked Lyra up and down slowly, and stopped at her cutie mark.
  227. >It was a lyre, seemed coincidental that she was called Lyra.
  228. >"Anonymous?" Octavia asked, once again breaking your train of thought.
  229. "Sorry...just thinking," You replied.
  230. >You walked into Lyra's home and looked around at the furnishings.
  231. >Obviously everything was smaller to you because of your size, but other than that it seemed like a pretty standard house.
  232. >"Anonymous, you can put Octavia's cello down over there if you like." Lyra said, walking inside behind Octavia.
  233. >You looked over to where she was pointing, seeing a group of chairs and a table.
  234. "Okay, will do." You replied
  235. >You realized why you felt so drained: you'd been carrying Octavia's cello this whole time.
  236. >You walked over to the table and rested the case down against it.
  237. >
  238. >Octavia and Lyra had chatted for about 30 minutes now, mainly about music but also affairs in Ponyville.
  239. >Lyra would often look over at you and giggle to herself, then return to conversation with Octavia.
  240. >Eventually they both got up and walked over to you and Octavia's Cello.
  241. >"I'll go get my lyre." Lyra said before darting off.
  242. >She was obviously eager to play.
  243. "I'll get you your cello, if you want."
  244. >"Why thank you, Anonymous." Octavia replied.
  245.
  246. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  247.
  248. >You picked the case up and rested it down on the table's top.
  249. >You popped it open and looked at the instrument inside, it's wonderfully-polished surface gleaming in the light.
  250. >You took the cello and bow out carefully, and handed them to Octavia.
  251. "There ya' go," you said with a smile.
  252. >"Thank you, Anonymous" she answered, moving to one of the seats
  253. >At that moment Lyra came bounding down stairs, her lyre followed gripped by her magic.
  254. >You sat down on a chair across from Octavia.
  255. >Lyra positioned her lyre in front of her and waited for Octavia to begin.
  256. >"Ready when you are, Octavia," she said.
  257. >"Okay..." was the answer. For some reason, Octavia seemed distant.
  258. >The two of them began to play a not-so-familiar song, probably written quite recently.
  259. >Lyra was playing beautifully. She was using her magic to pluck each string.
  260. >Octavia seemed somewhat distracted but still played her piece--from what you could tell--perfectly.
  261. "That was amazing you two!" You shouted as Octavia got up.
  262. >"Thank you, Anonymous" Octavia replied, bringing her cello to its case.
  263. >Lyra was staring at Octavia for some reason, but you couldn't quite figure ou-
  264. >"Octavia! We aren't finished!" She shouted.
  265. >Octavia turned to face Lyra.
  266. >"Have you not learnt the rest?" asked Lyra.
  267. >You both waited for Octavia's reply.
  268. >"No," Octavia finally answered.
  269. >"I didn't find the time to."
  270. >"Oh..." replied a disappointed Lyra.
  271.
  272. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  273.
  274. "Do you want me to put away your cello?"
  275. >"It's fine, I'll do it." Octavia answered.
  276. >You looked at Lyra, who shrugged her shoulders.
  277. "Is something wrong Octavia?"
  278. >She looked at you for a moment.
  279. >"No," she harshly answered.
  280. >Quickly, she put away her cello and bow.
  281. >Lyra was still sat confused behind her.
  282. >"I'm going to go relax with Rarity at the spa," Octavia said picking up the cello case.
  283. >She carried the case to the door and set it down.
  284. >"I'll see you later Lyra."
  285. >She opened the door and carried the case
  286. >Octavia kicked the door shut, leaving you and Lyra alone.
  287. "That was odd," you said, breaking the silence.
  288. >"She's just stressed I think, the spa will help," Lyra replied quietly.
  289. >You got up and sat down next to Lyra.
  290. "I'd love to hear the rest of that song, if you've learnt it that is."
  291. >"Of course! I mean..of course," Lyra replied blushing.
  292. >She positioned herself again and began playing.
  293. >You watched each string be plucked by her magic
  294. >She continued to play for another two minutes before finally stopping.
  295. >You clapped and stood up cheering.
  296. "Lyra that was amazing!"
  297. >Lyra blushed again, this time a beautiful crimson colour.
  298. >"Anon, you say the sweetest things..." Lyra giggled.
  299. >This feeling.
  300. >This was not something you had felt before.
  301. >"Anon?" Lyra said, seeming worried.
  302. "Sorry, I was just thinking..."
  303. >"You seem to do that a lot" Lyra replied smiling.
  304.
  305. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  306.
  307. >Lyra got down from her seat with a light thud.
  308. >"I'll go put my lyre away, you stay here!"
  309. >She darted off, her lyre following her.
  310. >You had time to think again.
  311. >You felt different around Lyra.
  312. >An indescribable feeling of happiness and comfort.
  313. >Lyra and you both seemed to get along perfectly...
  314. >But did she just see you as a friend?
  315. >
  316. >Lyra came darting back, a smile on her face.
  317. >She dived up at you, bringing you into a tight hug.
  318. "Ah! Lyra, wh-what are you doing?"
  319. >"Hugging you of course!"
  320. "Okay...but why..."
  321. >"Well, you're the nicest po-human I know!"
  322. >Okay, so Lyra likes you, you think.
  323. "So, umm..."
  324. >"What is it Anon?" Lyra said looking into your eyes.
  325. "What else do you do? Other than play your lyre?"
  326. >You tried to change the subject, as not to ruin something you weren't sure on.
  327. >Lyra looked at you puzzled for a second.
  328. >She snapped back to reality, and shook her head.
  329. >"Oh! I normally go meet up with Bon Bon!"
  330. "Bon Bon?"
  331. >"Yeah, she has a stall in Ponyville."
  332. "Really? What does she sell?"
  333. >"Sweets! All kinds too."
  334. "That sounds cool, I'd love to meet her."
  335. >Lyra thought for a moment.
  336. >"Then lets go meet her!"
  337. >She was still sat on you but didn't seem to realise.
  338. >"Well?"
  339. "You're kinda sat on me here."
  340. >"Oh right, sorry."
  341. >She hopped off you onto the floor
  342. >You got up and followed her as she walked to the door.
  343. >"Let's go then!" she shouted, leaving the house.
  344. >You walked out and shut the door behind you.
  345.
  346. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  347.
  348. >Lyra was sat at her gate waiting for you.
  349. >She was obviously very eager for you to meet Bon Bon.
  350. >You walked up to her slowly.
  351. "Lets go then..."
  352. >"O-kay!"
  353. >The two of you walked along the roads of Ponyville, towards it's centre
  354. >Lyra darted to stalls in the distance.
  355. >"Come on Anon!" she shouted.
  356. "Hold on, I'm coming..."
  357. >You changed to a brisk pace to catch up with her.
  358. "You're very eager."
  359. >"Why wouldn't I be? Its always good to help people make new friends."
  360. >Lyra walked slower this time, staying along side you.
  361. >"You're going to love Bon Bon!"
  362. "Is that so?"
  363. >"Yeah, you could say..she's really...sweet."
  364. >You looked at Lyra for a second.
  365. >"You don't get it do you."
  366. >She was giggling to herself.
  367. >You finally caught on.
  368. "Oh!"
  369. >You laughed, continuing to follow Lyra.
  370. >She ran up to a stall being ran by a beige pony.
  371. >She had a two-tone mane and tail, blue and pink.
  372. >"Bon Bon!"
  373. >"Oh, hey Lyra!" replied Bon Bon.
  374. >You walked up to the two ponies, not interrupting their conversation
  375. >"Oh! Bon Bon, this is Anon!"
  376. >Bon Bon looked at you for a second, looking you up and down slowly.
  377. >She finally stopped and smiled.
  378. >"Nice to meet you Anon! I'm Bon Bon."
  379. "Nice to meet you too Bon Bon."
  380. >Lyra started to Bon Bon again. catching up on things that had happened.
  381. >You looked through Bon Bon's sweets on her stall for anything that might catch your eye.
  382.
  383. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  384.
  385. "Hmm.."
  386. >Bon Bon looked at you eyeing the glistening sweets.
  387. >"Anything you fancy, Anon?"
  388. >You looked over the sweets quickly again.
  389. "They all look great Bon Bon."
  390. >She smiled gleefully.
  391. "But I can't choose between them...And I have no bits."
  392. >She frowned for a moment
  393. >"Okay..."
  394. >Lyra looked at Bon Bon's sad expression.
  395. >"I'll buy you some Anon,  if you want?" Lyra caringly said.
  396. >You looked at Bon Bon's expression.
  397. "Okay," you finally answered.
  398. >Bon Bon's face lit up.
  399. >"Okay Anon, which do you want?"
  400. >Great, now you're stumped.
  401. "Uhh.."
  402. >You quickly looked for the nicest ones on the stall.
  403. >You pointed to glistening blue and red gumdrops.
  404. >Lyra picked the bag up with her mouth and took it over to Bon Bon.
  405. >"Good choice Anon," Bon Bon chimed as she weighed them.
  406. >Lyra smiled at you.
  407. >You smiled back as her while she got her bits ready.
  408. >"3 bits, please"
  409. >Lyra put the money next to the sweets.
  410. >"Thank you for the business!"
  411. >Lyra took the sweets from the counter, and walked over to you.
  412. >You grinned at her cute face with the bag in her mouth.
  413. >She dropped the bag into your open hand, smiling back at you.
  414. "Thanks Lyra."
  415. >You took two sweets out of the small bag
  416. "Seen as you bought them, you should have the first one."
  417. >You held your hand out with a single sweet your palm.
  418. >She pulled it into her mouth with her slippery tongue.
  419. >Lyra chewed for a second then smiled up at you.
  420. >You placed the gumdrop into your mouth and chewed it.
  421. "Wow Lyra, these are really sweet!"
  422. >"You're really sweet..." Lyra quietly said.
  423.
  424. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  425.
  426. >You stopped in place.
  427. >Lyra looked at you worried slightly.
  428. >Slowly, you took in what she had just said.
  429. >"A-anon? You okay?" Lyra said, her expression not changing.
  430. >You pulled Lyra into a warm embrace.
  431. >She laid her fore hooves over your shoulders.
  432. >You both seemed to stay there forever, enjoying each other's warmth.
  433. >You sniffed her mane, it's dull musk filling your nostrils.
  434. >You ran your hand through her mane slowly.
  435. >Lyra pulled away slightly, so that you were nose to nose.
  436. >You stared into her beautiful eyes, the sun's rays causing them to sparkle.
  437. >You pressed your lips against hers, pushing her head back slightly.
  438. >To not spoil the moment you didn't use your tongue.
  439. >Finally, after an eternity, you released her back onto all fours.
  440. >"I guess, actions speak louder than words." She said blushing.
  441. >You felt a warm sensation on your cheeks.
  442. "Yes. Yes they do."
