The White-Scaled Basilisk: Chapter One, Part One
 
>A beautiful day in Ponyville.
>The sun is shining and the birds are chirping.
>The fall leaves are almost out of their trees and are being carried by the wind outside.
>The cold breeze is starting to pick up, signaling the citizens of Ponyville to start wearing their winter gear to keep themselves warm.
>At this winter season, it’s time for the ponies to buy their Hearth’s Warming Eve presents and wrap them up, ready to be opened by their loved ones.
>And it is also time for ponies to start setting up their decorations at their homes.
>But for the residents of the Manor…
>This is no time for buying gifts or decorating the Manor.
>For the residents, it is time for them to look for ways to earn money.
>After a few of them caught a cold and some have come and go from the Manor.
>At the rate for the Manor, the residents could possibly lose their home!
>However, one day, a writer named Codexes shuffled through the mail and found something of interest.
>A wanted flyer.
>It was looking for monster hunters to search for a rare creature called the “White-Scaled Basilisk.”
>Bringing this monster to the contractor dead or alive would reward the hunters a hefty sum of bits.
>Codexes knew he couldn’t fight against the beast alone.
>He had to ask the others in the Manor for help, no matter who they are.

>”What?!” Jello exclaims to Codexes.
>Codexes steps back from the shout, but maintains his posture.
>”I know it sounds weird–“
>”And dangerous, Cody!” Jello cuts him off and steps in front of him, getting in front of his face and pressing her gelatin hoof on his chest, “Who knows what will happen if YOU go there by yourself!?”
>”I’m not going there by myself, Jello!” Codexes slightly and gently pushes Jello away, giving himself some personal space.
>Jello raises her brow at him, “Eh?”
>”I can’t go there by myself! Fighting this… monster whatever could get me killed!”
>Jello shakes her head, “And I don’t think anypony wants that.”
>”I know that, Jello. And I’m going to ask you something dumb.”
>”What is it?” Jello asks.
>Codexes deeply sighs and looks at Jello, “Would you like to join me?”
>Jello tilts her head at him, “Join you fighting this monster?”
>Codexes slowly nods, “I mean, you don’t have to. And besides, I don’t want you getting–“
>”Count me in!” Jello grins.
>Codexes is stunned by her response, “Wait what?”
>”Yeah, count me in, Cody! Wouldn’t it be cool if all of us would go to this? We could be monster hunters! And we would go on awesome adventures together!”
>For Codexes, it sounds pretty fun and exciting!
>”Wouldn’t that be great?!” Jello literally cannot contain excitement as shown by her vibrating gelatin body.
>Codexes smiles and nods at Jello and she quickly hugs him, “All of us are going to have so much fun!”

>While Jello is away at the Manor, getting ready for the adventure, Codexes goes upstairs to LazerBlues’ bedroom.
>Codexes knocks on the bedroom door.
>”Yes?” Lazer responded and Codexes walks inside, “Oh, hey Code.”
>”Hey Lazer.” Codexes sees Lazer fiddling with a camera, “What’s that?” Codexes points the camera out.
>”Eh, old camera,” Lazer keeps looking around and fidgeting with it, “Very old one at that. Is not in TERRIBLE condition, but it looks like it could use some repairs.”
>”Have you asked Awe about it?”
>”Busy he said. And I don’t think he can fix cameras. He could fix his foreleg and other parts at that. It’s fine though.”
>Lazer snaps a lens back in the small antique, “Ah ha!”
>”What did you do?”
>”The old ones broke and I had to replace it. It was difficult, but I got it.”
>Lazer makes the final adjustments to it before slinging over his neck.
>He then points the camera at Codexes, “Smile!”
>Codexes makes a quick grin while showing the wanted flyer next to him.
>There is a quick flash and a photo slides out of the camera, and Lazer looks over it.
>”Huh? What’s this flyer?” Lazer points at the wanted flyer.
>”That’s what I wanted to talk to you about…” Codexes said.
>He then explains to Lazer about the monster hunting and the adventure.
>Lazer takes a deep breath and sighs, “Monster hunting, huh?”
>Codexes nods, “You don’t have to go, you know.”
>”Well… considering that I can’t draw for horsecrap lately, and that I got this camera working…”
>Lazer pauses, but smiles at Codexes, “Why not?”
>Codexes is surprised by Lazer’s decision, “Really?”
>”Again, why not? If Jello said it’s a lot of fun, then I’ll go with you and the others! Besides, you’ll probably gather almost everypony here, leaving me alone here, and I don’t like that.”
>Lazer grins and he and Codexes hoofbump in agreement.
> - LazerBlues has joined the team! –

>Codexes knocks on the basement door.
>”Go away, Code!” Pinkamena Diane Pie shouted from the basement.
>”But I didn’t even ask–“
>”Go, shoo! I’m busy!”
>”With that?”
>Pinkie groans, “With stuff that I want to do for myself.”
>”Like…?”
>”None of your bees-ness!”
>”Isn’t it bees-wax–“
>”Just go!”
>Codexes feels like he lost a few persuasion points.
>Unless…
>”Well, I guess you don’t want to join the adventure.”
>Codexes leans on the door for a response and nothing came out.
>”And we could be great hunters!”
>Again, no response.
>”Jello is going.”
>Codexes is at the point of giving up.
>”Lazer is also going.”
>Suddenly, he hears the steps quickly being stomped up and before Codexes could move away, the door swings open, hitting his face and knocking him back.
>After Codexes is out of the daze, he sees Pinkie looking over the flyer that he dropped when he was knocked back.
>Pinkie drops the flyer and looks at Codexes with a serious look.
>”Sure, I’ll go since Lazer is going. BUT…”
>She walks up to him and gets in his face, snouts almost touching each other.
>”If anything happens to Lazer, and I’m not there to protect him… then I’m going to have a very, VERY… serious talk with you.”
>Codexes quickly nods and Pinkie goes back downstairs, slamming the basement door.
>He quickly gets up from the ground and checks his snout.
>No broken bones. Good.
>At least not yet for him.
