I said-" >She stops when she sees you. >"Shit. Anon, I umm." >She clears her throat. >"So uh, what's up?" >It seems she's trying to play it off. "I-I heard.." >She sighs. >"Yeah, sorry about that. Were you scared?" >You nod. >"Want to stay with me?" >Motion no. "I heard you." >She cocks her head. >"Heard me?" >Nod. "It sounded like- you were crying." >Expect she'll deny it, like she always does with embarrassing things. >Instead she sighs. >"Yeah. I didn't mean to bother you." "I was worried." >She smiles at you. >"Thanks, but you don't need to do that. I'm supposed to take care of you. Not the other way around." >You look at her. "B-but I got you in trouble." >"Says who?" >She seems really concerned, ready to do it again, which kinda scares you. "Well, you wouldn't be here if I could just protect myself." >She shushes you. >"Don't you ever say that Anon. You're just a kid. You shouldn't have to stand up to guys like us." "Bu-" >You couldn't think of a counter to that. >"Now where's my hug?" >You close the distance and embrace her. >And so you both stay there for a while, comforting each other silently. >Something comes to mind though. "Rainbow?" >"Yep?" "How long are grounded for?" >She scoffs. >"Anon you know I can't be grounded." >She says this with confidence. >You didn't know it, but it would start to rub off on you. "What about school? Are you getting expelled?" >She looks at you. >"Let me tell you a secret Anon." >She lean into your ear. >"As long as you don't go to far and you don't throw the first punch, the worst they can give you is detention." >You smile. "So you'll be okay?" >"Uh, yeah I'll be okay." >Relief comes over you. >Finally, there's only one thing you need to know. "Why were you yelling?" >You're a little embarrassed at your less than smooth requesting. >"Oh." >She recalls the recent event. >"Let's just say me and dad don't exactly see things the same." >Good enough for you. >You exhale and lay on her warm bed. >All this combined with the comfort of her blankets puts you to sleep. >It would've been humiliating if you were awake. >Good thing you're not.   >Be Rainbow Dad. >It's been a while since your argument with Dash. >The guilt has been eating your insides for a while now. >Your wife tried to kept telling you it was the right thing to do, but you're not sure. >She's asleep now. >Getting out of bed you head towards Anon's room. >From what Dash said and what the school told you, she was just trying to defend the him. >Seems she sent that boy to the hospital. >That was your main concern. >While it was definitely extreme, it wasn't unjustified. >Entering, you see Anon's not there. >Nearly panic. >He's been through a lot. >Check his room. >Empty. >It wasn't like him to runaway, so you keep calm. >Across from his, was dash's room. >... >Hopefully she's in a good mood. >You knock. >No response. >It's unlocked though. >You enter. "Dash?" >You let out all your worries in a sigh. >On the bed was the girl in question, and just as important, Anon. >Guess the apology will have to wait. >You go up to take Anon to bed. >He mumbles and snuggles harder into her. >Well... >Probably best to just leave. >But not before pulling the blanket over them.
