Language- a set of commonly used symbols we use to communicate
Communication- getting a signal or message between the sender and receiver and validating it with feedback
Speech- words used orally
Verbal communication- communication using words
Vocal communication- oral utterances which have meaning but are not words
Oral- from the mouth
Aural- pertains to listening or hearing
Syntax- The order of words
Semantics- Word meaning
Enunciation- Pronouncing words in a clear and concise manner
antithesis- opposites placed side by side in a comparison
Intrapersonal communication- your internal monologue
Transactional communication- you are always sending and receiving information
Communication competence- the ability to adjust whatever it is to get the message across.
Characteristics of competence- Having a wide range of behaviors and the ability to select the right behavior for the right situation, and being able to perform/execute it with skill
