- > Ugh, my head really hurts. Totally uncool.
- > Don't even remember drinking cider yesterday.
- > I slowly open my eyes. Better get a glass of water or something.
- > "..."
- > Huh? I rub my eyes with my hooves and look again.
- > What a sec. That can't be right.
- > I find myself inside a strange room.
- > The walls are painted a drab gray on all sides.
- > No furniture aside from a small cot and a toilet to the side.
- > The place is illuminated by artifical lights of human design.
- > I can't tell the time, as there are no windows or clocks.
- > But most troubling is the only visible exit:
- > A single heavy steel door. Looks like it can't be opened from this side.
- > "..."
- > Something clicks in my head. I quickly get on my hooves.
- > I've seen this type of place before on human television.
- > This looks like,
- > "A p-prison cell?" I say aloud.
- > Oh, no. This can't be happening!
- > I quickly examine myself.
- > Hooves - check. Wings - check. Teeth - check.
- > No wounds or injuries. That's good.
- > Then, I notice that my saddlebag is missing.
- > Nothing to use in this situation. That's bad.
- > Okay, stay calm and try to focus! Also,
- > "Darn it, Rainbow!" I mutter to myself. "Quit mentally narrating this like a story!"
- ---
- > Several minutes have passed since I found myself in this cell.
- > I have determined that the walls and door are of solid construction.
- > First, I have tried kicking and punching them with my hooves.
- "WHACK! WHACK! WHACK!"
- > That didn't work.
- > Then, I tried ramming them with the weight of my whole body.
- "BANG! BANG! BANG!"
- > That didn't work, either.
- > So, I tried shouting and screaming next.
- > "Someone, help! Anyone, please! I'm trapped in here!"
- > No reaction.
- > "Let me out of here before I hurt somep0ny! Grrr!"
- > No effect.
- > "If you let me out, I promise to stop sneaking cider into the apartment!"
- > Nope.
- > Clearly, the door does not open with voice commands.
- > And there probably isn't even anyp0ny behind it.
- > Why I even thought that would work, I really have no idea.
- > After trying everything I could think of, I finally decided to rest.
- > "Calm down, Rainbow. You aren't going to get anywhere if you panic..."
- > I stop to think, but I can't remember much of what happened today.
- > The last thing I remember was napping on a tree branch at the park.
- > I have no idea how I ended up here or who was responsible.
- > But then, I remember one of Twilight's rules when we first came to Earth.
- "Rule #1 - Never tell anyp0ny about your true nature."
- > Humans aren't supposed to know that we are living in the city.
- > Or at least, they weren't supposed to. Not yet, anyway.
- > But something went wrong, and now I'm in this mess.
- > I have to assume the worst and conserve my energy.
- > As Rarity would say, this is certainly,
- > THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING.
- ---
- > I lie on the cot and wrap the sheet around myself.
- > The sheet is paper-thin, but it is better than nothing.
- > I formed a plan. It might not work, and it was risky.
- > But that was enough to give me hope and keep me focused.
- > With that in mind, I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep.
- > "..."
- > Minutes? Hours? Days?
- > I have no idea how much time passed.
- > Suddenly, I hear the steel door open.
- > I close my eyes tight and listen carefully.
- "Looks like she's asleep," says a male voice. "But stay on guard."
- "You don't need to remind me," says a female voice.
- > Footsteps. Sounds like there are two humans.
- > I'm tempted to peek, but I keep perfectly still.
- "How did you capture her?" asks the female.
- "I found her sleeping in the park. Good thing I brought some Chloroform with me."
- "Interesting. So this confirms that Chloroform works on their kind."
- > I twitch slightly at the words, "their kind".
- > So they suspect me of being a pony, eh?
- > I turn to my side and slowly open my eyes.
- "Don't move!" cries the male.
- > He immediately takes a step back and pulls out a long metal rod.
- > It sparks from the end dangerously. A human weapon of some sort?
- > "W-What happened?" I mumble. "W-who are you?"
- > I slowly get up and put on an innocent face.
- > Hopefully Twilight's illusion spell still works.
- "Nice try," says the female. "But your tricks have worn off, pegasus."
- > Oh, right. I forgot about Rule #2. So much for that plan.
- ---
- > Guess it's time for Plan B.
- > I blow a raspberry at the two humans.
- > Then, I quickly fly towards the now open exit.
- > "Later, losers!"
- > I fly through the steel door with glee,
- > And proceed to smash my muzzle against a second steel door behind it.
- "Foolish pony," says the female, chuckling. "Thinks she can escape, can she?"
- > I pick myself up and turn around. My head is still spinning.
- > The male human walks up toward me. I put up my hooves.
- > This pegasus isn't going to go down without a fight!
- "I suggest you put those down and cooperate," he says.
- > "Like hay that's gonna happen! I'm gonna knock your teeth out!"
- "Put her back to sleep," says the female.
- > I look up straight into the male human's eyes to ready myself.
- > Huh? Wait, a second! I know that guy!
- > "Hey! Aren't you that dude from the convenience store!?"
- > The male pauses. He seems uneasy at my words.
- "Do we really need to resort to violence?" asks the male.
- "She needs to learn her position here."
- > He sighs and raises up the metal rod in his hand.
- "I'm really sorry about this, Miss Rainbow."
- > With a single swift movement, he strikes at my chest with the rod.
- > My body shudders as lightning pours forth into my body.
- > Then, everything goes black.
- > "..."
- ---
- > I wake slowly and find myself lying on the cot,
- > Still trapped inside this cell by the humans.
- > As I get up, I notice that I'm not shivering like before.
- > Looks like somehuman covered me up with a thicker, second blanket.
- > "..."
- > I trot around the room with the sheets still wrapped around me.
- > My body feels fine, though I can vaguely remember the jolting pain.
- > The humans are keeping me prisoner, so they probably want me alive.
- > For some reason, that doesn't make me feel any better.
- *click*
- > I jump slightly and back away at the sudden noise.
- > The cell door opens. A familiar male human walks inside.
- "Feeling better, Miss Rainbow?"
- > He is holding that metal rod weapon from earlier.
- > I reflexively flutter away to increase the distance between us.
- > Seeing my reaction, he sighs and shakes his head.
- "Can't say I blame you," he says. "But to be honest,"
- > The human steps toward the cot and puts a tray down on the floor beside it.
- "We are probably much more afraid of you than you are of us."
- > "..."
- > I frown at him, puzzled. What did he mean by that?
- > He gives me a slight nod before leaving me with my thoughts.
- ---
- > After a few minutes, I examine the tray that the human left inside.
- > Upon it is a glass of water and a large bowl full of green salad.
- > Smells like fresh lettuce, carrot, tomato and cucumber.
- > My stomache grumbles loudly. Hunger quickly overcomes my other thoughts.
- > "Ugh, fine."
- > I decide to chance it and quickly wolf down the food.
- > The vegetables are very fresh, though the dish is kinda bland without dressing.
- > After finishing off the simple meal, I decide to fly around the cell a bit.
- > My wings need stretching, and I still feel restless.
- > "..."
- > More time passes as I try to think about how to escape.
- > There isn't anything I could use to open that heavy steel door,
- > And the ventilation ducts are far too small for even a little filly.
- > Looks like I'm going to be here for a while.
- *click*
- > I turn to see that same human enter the cell.
- > He gives me a quick nod before taking the tray away.
- "Glad to see that you're eating," he says.
- > He has his weapon strapped to his belt this time.
- > I take a deep breath and fly down beside him.
- > "I was hungry," I say. "Not like I had much choice."
- "Yeah, I suppose."
- > We stare at each other for a while. Then, I decide to ask him directly.
- > "So are you humans going to cut me open and experiment on me?"
- "E-Experiment on you? Of course, not! That's barbaric!"
- > "Then, why are you keeping me here?"
- > He lowers his eyes and turns away.
- "Sorry, Miss Rainbow. I'm not authorized to tell you that."
- ---
- > Two meals and a nap later, he comes inside my cell again.
- > I quickly fly down and take the meal tray with a forced smile.
- > He politely forces a smile back. I decide to talk to him for a while.
- > "Why do you keep calling me, 'Miss Rainbow'?"
- "Habit, I guess. You were a customer back at the convenience store."
- > "Well, quit it! Sounds like I'm your boss or something."
- "What should I call you, then?"
- > "My name is Rainbow Dash. But just Rainbow is fine."
- "Uh, sure. Well, my name is-"
- > Suddenly he stops and clears his throat.
- "Classified."
- > "Classified? Seriously?"
- "I'm not authorized to tell you that."
- > He blushes a bit and quickly changes the subject.
- "So you're a pegasus, huh?"
- > I flap my wings proudly.
- > "That's right! These aren't just for show, you know?"
- "I can see that. So is it true that you can control the weather?"
- > "Well, yeah! I mean, maybe? Uh, how do you know that?"
- "I've done my research."
- > He pulls out something from his pocket. An old black notebook.
- "Seems like this isn't the first time that we humans encountered your kind."
- ---
- > Music suddenly starts playing. I don't recognize the tune.
- > The human sighs, pulls out a small device and pushes a button on it.
- > He then puts it to his ear. The music stops abruptly.
- "Reporting. I'm at Lower Basement, Cell A."
- > That is probably one of those "mobile phones" from human television.
- > Sounds like a handy device, but it isn't exactly designed for hooves.
- "Alright, I'll head up immediately."
- > The human pockets the device and turns to me.
- "I need to go now. I'm needed up top."
- > "Going to capture more helpless ponies, I presume?"
- "Nah. We haven't located the rest of your friends yet."
- > "Figures..."
- > The knowledge that my friends are alright is a relief,
- > But I'm irritated at the fact that I'm the only one who got caught.
- "Let me know if you need anything so I can bring it when I get back."
- > "Well, I do need the keys to those steel doors over there..."
- > He smirks at me and chuckles.
- "Nope. I don't think so."
- > "Then at least bring me a pack of that candy I always get at the store!"
- "Hmm, I suppose that's fine."
- > The human pauses before leaving the cell.
- "No promises, though. I need to check with the higher ups, first."
- > He closes the door behind him, leaving me all alone once more.
- > "..."
- > I wonder if Twilight and the others have realized I've gone missing?
- ---
- > The heavy steel door opens. I frown when I see who walks inside.
- > It is that female human again. However, she doesn't have an escort.
- > She is wearing a black suit and a smile that gives me the shivers.
- "Good evening, Miss Rainbow."
- > "Good evening, yourself. I'll have to take your word on the time."
- "Apologies for the lack of more comfortable accommodations."
- > She doesn't sound the least bit apologetic.
- > "What do you want?"
- "Straight to the point, eh? I like that."
- > The woman pulls out a sheet of paper and begins to read aloud.
- "The accused, hereafter known as Rainbow Dash, has been found guilty"
- > "Guilty?" I cry out. "Guilty of what? Sleeping in the park?"
- "-of the crime of espionage against this country and its people."
- > Wait, what? Spying? How could she possibly know that?
- > She smiles at my surprise and continues.
- "As such, she shall be penalized up to the full extent of the law,"
- "Including: immediate deportation, indefinite imprisonment,"
- "Or if deemed necessary to national security and safety,"
- "Execution."
- > My jaws drop in shock. Execution? She can't be serious!
- > "Execution? You can't be serious!"
- "Spying is a serious crime in this country," she says. "And in this world."
- > I bite my lip in frustration, unsure of what to say.
- > The woman smiles even wider as she watches me squirm.
- "But don't you worry, Miss Rainbow,"
- > She pulls out another set of papers and hands them to me.
- "In return for your assistance, we may be able to lighten your sentence."
- ---
- > "In return for my assistance," I repeat slowly.
- "That is correct. You see, we have been aware of your kind for some time now."
- > I glance at the papers while she speaks.
- "While you ponies seem to be a fairly peaceful and reasonable race,"
- > This looks like a contract of some sort.
- "We have learned that your kind has certain abilities that, if in the wrong hands,"
- > Most of it looks like complex legal jargon.
- "Could pose a serious risk to the safety of our country and our people."
- > I think I'm supposed to sign on every page.
- "Thus, we must maintain a certain level of control,"
- > But I can't make out even half of what this means.
- "Over who and what can be allowed to enter this world from yours."
- > "Yeah, sure," I mutter. "Whatever. What does this have to do with me?"
- > I wave the papers in her direction for emphasis.
- "It's all written in there. Isn't it clear?"
- > "Clear as mud. You know that I'm not familiar with Earth laws."
- > The woman chuckles a bit. She seems to be enjoying this.
- "My apologies. Let me explain this in a way even YOU can understand."
- > She definitely doesn't sound sorry. And I certainly don't like her tone.
- "We know that you aren't the only one sent to spy on our world,"
- "And we are sick of dealing with your illusions and other pony 'magic'."
- > The woman taps on the papers lightly with her finger.
- "So why don't we cut to the chase,"
- "You will be free to return to your world,"
- "Or you can choose to stay if that's what you want."
- "We'll sign you up for the witness protection program."
- > She pulls out a pen from her pocket and hands it to me.
- "All you need to do is sign this document,"
- "And tell us where the rest of your friends are hiding."
- ---
- > I take one long look at the document. There really is no option here.
- > With a sigh, I take the pen and papers into my hooves,
- > And throw it back violently at the woman.
- "Ah, how disappointing."
- > "Betray my friends? Who the hay do you think I am?"
- > She doesn't stop smiling.
- "A very stupid pony?" she suggests.
- > Oh, that is IT! I swing a hoof right at her face.
- > But to my surprise, she blocks it easily with her arm.
- "Yep. Clearly, you are a very stupid pony."
- > Without warning, she grabs my foreleg and tosses me across the room.
- > I hit the floor hard, unable to react. She smiles at my pain.
- "You should have signed it," she says. "Now we'll have to treat you as a prisoner of war."
- > "A prisoner of war?" I mutter.
- "That's right. Don't worry though. You still have a use to us."
- > She walks over and sneers at me.
- "You are the perfect bait to lure the rest of the ponies out of hiding."
- > "Bait? What are you talking about?"
- "We've already left breadcrumbs for your friends to follow."
- > "Y-You don't mean-"
- "That's right. We have prepared a wonderful welcome party for all your friends,"
- > She laughs loudly.
- "And once we capture you all, maybe I'll send for the scientists..."
- > "N-No! You wouldn't dare! This is insane!"
- > The woman looks upon me with scorn.
- "No, Miss Rainbow. This is war."
- ---
- > I force myself up and take a moment to collect my thoughts.
- > Unfortunately, my head is still fairly muddled up.
- > "You humans are all crazy!"
- "Oh really? We weren't the ones who sent spies disguised with magic!"
- > Again with that word. Spies. I am so sick of being called that.
- > "We were sent here on a mission, but we're not spies!"
- "Really now? Why were you sent here then?"
- > There is nothing left to lose. I might as well tell her the truth.
- > "We were tasked to gather intelligence in order to prepare for a diplomatic mission."
- "A diplomatic mission? How naive do you think we are?"
- > "It's the truth! You have to believe me!"
- "And why should we? Do you have any proof?"
- > I open my mouth to reply, but I don't have any answer.
- > She smiles at my silence.
- "Of course you don't, you damn dirty spy!"
- > "I said that I'm not a-"
- > Suddenly, she grabs my forehoof once more,
- > And throws me even harder against the wall.
- "Give it up. You're here to report on our military strength, aren't you?"
- > I can feel blood in my mouth, but I force myself to speak.
- > "That's wrong," I whisper. "We're here to make peace."
- "Likely story! Tell that to the military court!"
- > With that, the woman takes the papers and leaves my cell.
- > I limp towards the cot weakly. My body hurts all over.
- > And soon, I feel myself passing out from the pain.
- > But not without whispering once more,
- > "We're here... to make peace..."
- ---
- > Somep0ny calls out my name. I open my eyes.
- > A familiar young filly waves at me. I smile and wave back.
- > "Hey there, Scootaloo!"
- "Rainbow Dash! You're back!"
- > Her wings buzz excitedly as she gallops up to me and gives me a hug.
- > After making sure that nop0ny else is watching, I hug her back tightly.
- > "How are you doing with those wing exercises I taught you?"
- "I'm doing great," says the filly. "I can almost fly over a house now!"
- > "Oh, really?"
- "Well, maybe just a doghouse," she admits, blushing.
- > "Heh, don't worry. You'll get the hang of it."
- "You really think so?"
- > "You've got a lot of power in those tiny wings of yours. I can tell."
- > I laugh lightly and ruffle her mane.
- > "You just need to improve on your control and balance."
- "Thanks, Rainbow! That means a lot, coming from you!"
- > "Yeah, I suppose it does. I am the best flier in Ponyville, after all!"
- "I can't wait till you become the best in Equestria!"
- > "Heh, me too. But let's head back to town. It's getting dark out."
- "I'll race you back!" she cries.
- > I smile as the filly puts on her helmet and dashes off on her scooter.
- > Maybe I'll give her a bit of a headstart this time.
- > Huh? Wait a second! Those silhouettes in the distance.
- > "Scootaloo! Get back here!"
- "Heh! That trick won't work on me twice, Rainbow! I'm gonna beat you this... time?"
- > The filly stops and turns around, but it is too late.
- > I watch helplessly as several humans grab her and force her down on the ground
- > "No! Get away from her!"
- > Then, as she struggles, one of them pulls out a weapon and points it at her temple.
- > My eyes widen in horror as I recognize it as a handgun.
- > The human grins widely as he pulls the trigger.
- ---
- > "YOU MONSTERS!"
- > I awake with a start, in a cold sweat.
- "Woah! Take it easy, Miss Rainbow!"
- > My vision slowly recovers. I realize that I'm still inside the cell.
- > Then, I notice the human sitting by my side. I yelp in surprise.
- > "G-Get away from me!"
- > I try to get up and flap my wings, but the sudden pain stops me.
- "Stay still! You can't move around yet or you'll open up those wounds!"
- > It's that male human from earlier. He is holding up a roll of bandages.
- > I stop struggling. He carefully helps me back under the sheets.
- > "My wounds? W-What happened?"
- "I heard that you pissed off my boss. She was furious."
- > He begins replacing the bandages around my side as he speaks.
- "You need to be more careful. She could have killed you."
- > Slowly, the events come back to me. I narrow my eyes.
- > "She asked me to betray my friends."
- "You could have told her that you'd think about it."
- > "I'd never betray my friends."
- "Yeah, well. I'm sure your friends wouldn't want to see you get hurt like this."
- > "..."
- > He's right. I should have kept my cool.
- > Maybe I should have made up a story or something.
- > I don't say anything as he continues bandaging my wounds.
- > When he finishes, he gives me a slight nod before walking off.
- > "Wait," I whisper.
- "..."
- > "What's going to happen to me now?"
- > He hesitates for a moment, not turning around.
- "I don't know. But I was ordered to watch over you."
- ---
- > Several meals and a couple of naps later, the human returns with a first aid kit.
- > I still don't have a clear idea of how long I've been imprisoned in this cell.
- > But thankfully, that crazy lady in the black suit hasn't come to visit.
- "How are your wings feeling, Miss Rainbow?"
- > I frown at him and flap them a bit.
- > "My right wing still hurts when I move it, and it's getting a little itchy."
- "Sounds like it's healing. That's a good sign."
- > He walks over to me and carefully starts unwrapping the old bandages.
- > It tickles a bit. I can't help but giggle as he works.
- > "D-Don't touch my wings like that," I squeak.
- "Apologies. I'm not very familiar with pegasi bodies."
- > I'll have to take his word on that.
- > "Right. Hey, can I ask you something?"
- "Sure. What is it, Miss Rainbow?"
- > "Why are you going through all the trouble of fixing me up?"
- > If they just need to keep me alive, then this seems excessive.
- > He pauses, looking unsure of himself.
- "I'm assigned to watch over you. This is just part of my duty."
- > He doesn't look me in the eye as he says that. I don't press any further.
- "All done."
- > After applying medicine, he wraps my wounds with fresh bandages.
- > Then, he gives me a quick nod as he prepares to leave.
- > "Thanks again for fixing me up."
- "No problem."
- > "Oh! And more one thing."
- "Yes, Miss Rainbow?"
- > "When are you coming to visit me again?"
- > He cracks the tiniest smile and shakes his head.
- ---
- > The next time the human visits, he is carrying a food tray.
- > As he puts it down beside my cot, I decide to ask him directly.
- > "You seem like a nice enough human. Why are you mixed up in all this?"
- "Huh? What are you talking about?"
- > "Well, from what I've seen, you treat ponies pretty decently."
- > He looks completely confused.
- "I ain't no nice guy, Miss Rainbow. Did you forget that I drugged and kidnapped you?"
- > "Well, you also fed me and took time to explain my situation."
- "I knocked you out with electricity."
- > "I tried to attack you first, so that was self-defense."
- > He stares at me dumbfounded for a full minute before laughing out loud.
- "Oh wow, this is hilarious."
- > "Why are you laughing?"
- "Sorry. You just reminded me of someone. She was just as naive, too."
- > "And who is that?"
- > He opens his mouth to speak, but suddenly, his face crumples in pain.
- "Ugh! Damn these headaches," he mumbles.
- > "Are you alright?"
- > I put my hoof over his hand, concerned.
- "Don't worry about me, Miss Rainbow."
- > He looks up and gives me a pained smile.
- "My head just really hurts when I try to remember certain things..."
- > I watch as he leaves the cell, holding a hand over his forehead.
- > Strange.
- > My stomach grumbles hungrily, interrupting my thoughts.
- > Upon the tray is a glass of water and a bowl of salad, as usual.
- > But when I put a hoof into the bowl, I feel something odd.
- > A small pack of candy is hidden under the vegetables.
- > It's the same kind I always got back at the store.
- ---
- > I poke at the floor with my hooves and sigh loudly.
- > At first, I was pretty scared.
- > Err, I mean, nervous. Yeah, just nervous.
- > Half-expected the human soldiers to come in here and drag me to some lab.
- > I'd be strapped down to some table,
- > And then the scientists would have their way with me.
- > Or at least, that's how it happens in the movies.
- > "Ugh, I'm so bored."
- > I've already spent a few hours inspecting for any weaknesses in the cell.
- > And it's been forever since I've had any visitors.
- > Was it night time right now?
- > I wouldn't be surprised if my sleep schedule has been totally messed up by all this.
- > Mental note to self: have some extra naptime if I ever get out.
- > Gotta sleep right and keep healthy.
- > "Bored. Bored. Bored."
- > This reminds me of my stay in the Ponyville hospital some time ago.
- > Except that I have absolutely nothing to keep me occupied.
- > Man, what I would do to have a ball to bounce around,
- > Or maybe the latest Daring Do. Wish I had a book.
- > Heck, I'd even settle for the older volumes.
- > "SO BORING."
- > I glance up at the ceiling. Yep, same old gray, as usual.
- > Silently, I wished that something exciting would happen soon.
- ---
- > Suddenly, the lights begin flickering on and off.
- > "Huh, what the heck-"
- "BOOM!"
- > The ground shakes at the impact.
- > I jump to my hooves in surprise.
- > Then, all the lights go out.
- > "W-What's going on?"
- > It's faint, but I recognize the sounds coming from above.
- > Screams and gunfire. No doubt about it.
- > Something had gone terribly wrong.
- *click*
- > A pair of emergency lights turn on.
- > I cover my eyes with my hooves until my eyes adjust.
- > The red light is disorienting, but it illuminates the room.
- > Then, I hear footsteps coming from behind the steel door to my cell.
- *slam*
- > I take cover behind the cot and brace myself.
- > A familiar silhouette walks inside with a slight limp.
- > It's that male human again. He looks at me and gives me a wave.
- "Glad you're alright, Miss Rainbow."
- > I quickly fly up to him, unsure what to ask first.
- > However, he raises his hand to interrupt me.
- "No time to explain," he says. "Just listen carefully."
- ---
- > The human pulls out a device from his pocket and gives it to me.
- > It looks like a small card with some markings on it.
- "Hold this close to the door access readers to open them."
- > "Access readers?" I repeat.
- "Gray things with a little light beside the doors."
- "When you leave this cell, take a left and go straight."
- "Take the third elevator from the right all the way up to the ground floor."
- "Turn left and go straight until you get to the emergency exit."
- "You should find your way back easily once outside."
- > I frown at him, even more confused. This makes no sense.
- > "Huh? Why are you telling me all this?"
- "All of it was a lie. And now, everything is falling apart..."
- > "What the hay is going on up there?"
- > He puts a hand on my shoulder and shakes his head.
- "This is your chance. Get out of here and escape."
- "Don't stop for anything!"
- > "B-But what about you?"
- > He gives a sad smile and crumples down toward the ground.
- > I barely manage to catch him as he falls.
- > Darn it, these humans are heavy!
- > "Hey, watch it! Are you alright?"
- "Ugh, sorry."
- > He regains his balance and forces himself up.
- > Only then do I realize that his leg is bleeding.
- > "You're wounded!" I cry out.
- "Forget about me," he says. "I'll only slow you down."
- > I examine the wound. Looks like he's been shot.
- > He's right. It'll be easier to escape if I go alone.
- ---
- > I dash back to my cot and hold down the sheets with my hooves.
- > Using my teeth, I begin tearing out long strips of cloth.
- > After gathering enough, I flutter back to the human.
- "What the hell are you doing?"
- > "Stay still. I gotta stop the bleeding."
- > I quickly start wrapping the cloth tightly around his leg.
- > This won't prevent infection, but it should buy him some time.
- "You're wasting time! You have to get out of this place!"
- > "I'm not leaving you to die here!"
- "Stop acting like an idiot!"
- > At those words, I pause and look straight at his eyes.
- > "You're the idiot!"
- "You need to help your friends!"
- > "You ARE my friend!"
- "I said... wait, what?"
- > I turn away from him and get back to bandaging his leg.
- > "You are my friend," I whisper. "Even if you don't realize it yet."
- "..."
- > After finishing my work, I turn back to him.
- > I offer him a hoof and give him a quick wink.
- > "C'mon! I'd never leave my friends hanging!"
- "..."
- > For a few moments, he just stares at me blankly.
- > Then slowly, he holds out a hand and takes my hoof.
