  1. As you sit on the roof of your house, you look up at the brightly shinning moon. (Another cool night in Equestria) You think as you rub your bloodshot eyes, fatigue, and a splitting headache have been keeping you company since you woke up this evening. Back home you took meds for the insomnia, here well, you’re fucked. At least back home you could spend hours on the computer, or just drive around to one of the many all night stores to kill time. Nothing here was open past 9 unfortunately, and it gets so boring spending nights all alone. This place has many nice ponies but sometimes it just gets so annoying living here now.
  2.
  3. A sudden gush of wind and the sounds of flapping wings compel you to look behind.
  4. “Ah Anon, it’s so nice to see you. Has the insombneah returned?” Luna asks
  5. “Insomnia.” You say tiredly with a smile, “It never really goes away, just some nights are better than others.”
  6. She sits herself next to you, and swishes her majestic star dotted mane away from her nose. She floats out a thick hardcover book and places it next to you
  7. “So what did you think of this most recent book?” She asks “We only got as far as when the mare was about to confess her feelings.”
  8. “Actually I wanted you to tell me about yourself tonight.” You reply “We talk about books enough.”
  9. “We are not so interesting; our royal duties leave little time for anything else.”
  10. “Don’t sell yourself short, I still want to know.”
  11. She looks up at the moon
  12. “Well we enjoy reading for one, sweets, as well as music and Nightmare Night..” She thinks for a minute “We have also taken up gardening and painting.” She goes back to thinking “Forgive us, we can’t think of anything else.” She laughs while placing a hoof on her mouth.
  13. “It’s ok, so how old are you anyway?”
  14. She giggles “That is something a mare would like to keep secret if she can help it, but we have a lived a long time. Would it be all right if we ask you a question now?”
  15. “Shoot.”
  16. “I’m sorry? We did not understand.”
  17. “Just ask.”
  18. “What did you think of this most recent book?” She grins floating it up again; you laugh out loud and take out your own copy.
  19. “Fine, let’s do this.” You say while turning to face her
  20. It’s not all bad here though; Luna is nice company on these lonely nights.
  21.
  22. The sun beings to peak out from the horizon as both you and Luna look on towards it.
  23. “Is it time already?” She says defeated “Well we best be getting back, our sister would be most displeased if we are not present before sun up.”
  24. “Same time tomorrow?” You ask as she stands.
  25. “We would love that, but we are needed elsewhere for some time, we are sorry. We will be in touch through Twilight until then.” She declares as she spreads her wings and flies off into the air.
  26. You rub your eyes again and jump down onto the ground, your eyes cry out demanding sleep, but they will have to wait a little while longer.
  27.
  28. >As Luna
  29. As you fly through the air you can see the castle come into view, you think back on tonight as you approach it. It was nice to see Anon again; it’s been to long since you shared words with him. Even if it’s not by choice, it’s nice to have company. You see your sisters come trotting happily out form her quarters and you descend down to meet her.
  30. “Luna, please come in for some fresh tea and cookies.” She smiles
  31. “That would be nice dear sister, we are most famished.”
  32.
  33. Inside, Celestia pours tea for herself and sister before sitting down across from her. She floats a cookie to her mouth before gracefully nibbling at it.
  34. “So how did it go? I know it’s been awhile since you last spoke with Anonymous.”
  35. “It went very well, though the conversation was sadly a bit stiff.”
  36. “It happens from time to time, its best if you don’t think about it or try to force a conversation. Just let the events play out.” She smiles
  37. “Sorry, we are still getting used to this.” You say while placing the cup on its plate “We will be going to sleep now, we are much exhausted.”
  38.
  39. In your room, you look around at all the blank walls and dark colors. Aside from some elegant vases, and a shelf with hundreds of books there is nothing really to call your own.
  40. “Perhaps we should invest in some more hobbies.” You conclude before heading into the bathroom, after you brush your teeth and slip into some plain dark blue pajamas, you close the blinds and hop into bed. Looking up at the ceiling you smile and sigh before turning on your side.
  41. “Sleep well Anon, we shall see each other soon.”
  42.
  43. >As Anon
  44. After making a stop inside your home, you walk around town with the bits you got. The groceries are in desperate need of replacing, so before you can sleep you need to do that first. One of the few good things about being awake so early is that you are the first to get anything you want. Seeing the store mares yawn at their posts as they open up shop, makes you long for your bed. Walking up to the mare selling fruit, you drop 15 bits on the table and grab the things you like. The mare has done business with you a longtime so she knows you won’t rip her off, even though occasionally you sneak in an extra orange or banana. With fruit in hand, you yawn out loud again, sleep sounds so damn good right now. As you begin the long trek back home, you spot Pinkie Pie trotting towards you. Despite it being so early, her face shows no sign of grogginess or having just woke up.
  45. “Good morning Anon!” She cheers as you yawn again with half open eyes
  46. “You mean good night.”
  47. “Oh that’s right silly me, so did you get to speak with Princess Luna last night?”
  48. You nod “Yeah, it was fun.”
  49. “Speaking of fun, Fluttershy is gonna be celebrating her birthday today, we plan on having a big party for her, and it will be well into the night so you can join us too! What daya say?!” She smiles at you sideways with her big chipmunk like cheeks
  50. “I would love to Pinkie but…I can’t. I have other things to do.” You say while trying to walk past her
  51. “What things could you be doing so late at…ohhh I get it.” She snickers “Cant you wait till after the party?”
  52. “No I’m not gonna be doing that, I just can’t go.” You say fixing your produce to fit more snug,
  53. “Awww cmon pleeeease.” She says dragging it on and leaning in close to you,
  54. You sigh just wanting to sleep “Fine I’ll go, but only for a little while.”
  55.
  56. Entering your home, you set the groceries on the table and drag yourself up stairs, inside your room; you toss your clothing off and crawl into bed. Looking around at all the boarded windows, you can see faint beams of light leaking through them. You need to reinforce them the next chance you get, laying back down in the makeshift darkness, you sleep.
  57.
  58. Waking up you rub your eyes and look at the small beams of light coming into the room, it looks like it’s just about the end of evening. Fluttershy’s party should be starting soon, you stretch and moan in joy before getting out of bed. The party isn’t for another couple of hours, which should be enough time to get a last minute gift for her party. After taking a shower to freshen up, you leave your room and head into the living room. You look at the black grand piano in the corner and sit yourself in front of it, placing your fingers on the keys, you run a few scales.
  59. “A..B..C…D..E..F..G.” You mumble looking over the keys, you played Piano back home, but it was nothing good enough to brag about. It wasn’t any easier when you came here; the keys were grossly larger than you were used to. It took months of back breaking work to save enough money for this custom made piano. Specially made and delivered from Canterlot, it’s a real fine peace of work. The keys were made smaller for you to play it easier, it was worth every bit. Getting limber and relaxed, you begin to play.
  60.
  61. As you finish your 9th sheet of music, some banging startles you. Looking outside, it’s already night.
  62. “Fuck.” You say getting up from the seat, “Coming!”
  63. Jogging up to the door, you open it and see Pinkie on the other side
  64. “Hey Anon, you ready for the parrrteh!” She says swirling her hoof in the air
  65. “Sorry I lost track of time, I wasn’t able to get Fluttershy anything.”
  66. “Aww Anon, we invited you because we wanted too, not for you to bring a gift.” She smiles, “C’mon, I’ll race ya!” She says running off, you stand by the door and close it slowly before walking towards Fluttershy’s house.
  67.
  68. Pinkie knocks on the door and Rarity answers,
  69. “Pinkie dear, where have you been?”
  70. “I was out getting Anon silly.” She replies as Rarity looks at you
  71. “Anon darling, so nice to see you, come in, come in.”
  72. Both you and Pinkie enter the party environment, looking around, you see everyone talking and laughing about. Noticing Twilight in a corner sipping on some punch, you head over to her.
  73. “Hey Twilight.” You wave
  74. “Oh hey Anon.” She smiles as you sit next to her; the both of you share an awkward silence as you look at the floor. You were so anxious to know if Luna sent anything, you didn’t think about what to talk with Twilight about. It would be rude if the only thing you wanted from her was a letter from Luna, even though that’s really what you want. Twilight clears her throat loudly to get your attention, turning your head; you see a letter with the royal seal floating in the air.
  75. She smiles before sending it your way and into your hands; you clutch the letter and look at her happily. Her smile gets bigger before she gets up and goes to talk with some of her other friends. Anxiously you tear open the seal and unfurl the letter.
  76.
  77. “Dearest Anonymous,
  78.
  79. I will be needed in Canterlot for Royal duties, while sister is away, unfortunately, she will not be back in time for Nightmare Night. I will be unable to attend the festivities at Ponyville this year; do apologize to everyp0ny for me.”
  80.
  81. You let out a sigh reading this, but you continue to read the letter.
  82.
  83. “However, here in the Royal Palace, I’ll be hosting my own Nightmare Night celebration, and I wanted to invite Twilight, you, and friends, as well as Pip, it has been so long since I last spoke with him.
  84.
  85. I’m also looking forward to the next time we can discuss that book, I read further ahead and am pleased with how the budding romance is going between the mare and stallion. Until we meet again.
  86.
  87. -Royal Princess Luna”
  88.
  89. It sucks that it’ll be sometime before you get to see Luna, but getting personally invited to a party hosted by her, the concept makes you giddy.
  90. “Something wrong Anon?” Pinkie asked as she trots up
  91. Broken from your thoughts, you fold the letter and get up, “No I’m fine, I was just thinking about something.”
  92. “Well c’mon were about to cut the cake.” She smiles nudging you forward, as the both of you come upon the group of ponies, you see Fluttershy cutting herself a piece of cake. After she sets it on the table, everyone helps themselves. You wait till everyone is done before you get a slice, getting a cup of punch; you sit yourself at the table in-between Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash.
  93. “Oh..its so nice to see you here Anonymous, has the special tea been helping you sleep?” Fluttershy asks as she sips her punch.
  94. “Yeah it helps, but not very much. Um since you pretty much are all here, I had some news I wanted to share with you all.”
  95. One explanation later, all the ponies are absolutely ecstatic about the idea of attending a royal Nightmare Night.
  96. “What da ya think Luna has planned Twi?” Applejack asks looking across the table
  97. “I don’t know, but knowing Luna, it will be harmless enough.” She laughs
  98. All the ponies continue to talk amongst themselves, while you get Rarity’s attention.
  99. “Say do you think you could make me a nice suit? I don’t really want to wear a costume.”
  100. “Why absolu…”
  101. “Its time for presents!” Pinkie shouts as she slams a brightly colored white box with a bow on the table, it squashes a nearby cake and splashes all over Rarity’s face. She composes herself before pulling out a large handkerchief from beneath the table with her magic, and proceeds to wipe her face.
  102. “Pinkie dear do be mindful, it took hours to do my coat.”
  103. Pinkie gives a wide sheepish grin, “Sorry Rarity.”
  104. “As I was saying, I would love to.” She concludes
  105. Fluttershy grabs the box and lightly shakes it, slowly opening it; she removes the top and takes out a fancy looking white dress.
  106. “Oh my, Pinkie it’s beautiful.”
  107. Rarity has a look of shock “Pinkie that’s my present!”
  108. “I know, geez Rarity I just grabbed the first present I saw, it didn’t mean it was from me.”
  109. Rarity rolls her eyes and drinks from her punch; Fluttershy folds it up and sets it aside.
  110. “Well thank you Rarity, I love it.”
  111. “Anytime dear, I’m glad you liked it.”
  112. The present opening went by pretty standard and predictable, she got a book from Twilight, a wing endurance weight from Rainbow, fine alcoholic cider from Applejack, a new record player from Pinkie, Spike gave her a card he made himself, and you got her jack shit.
  113.
  114. With the party coming to a close, everyone is saying their goodbyes. You walk up to Fluttershy before leaving
  115. “Sorry I didn’t get you anything, I didn’t even know I was coming until today.”
  116. “Aww that’s all right, it was nice just having you here tonight. Try to get some rest ok Anonymous?”
  117. “I’ll try.” She gives a little nod before slowly closing the door.
  118. With everyone pretty much done for the night, and no Luna to talk with, you wonder if you should head home or not. Well might as well get in some more practice, nothing else to do anyway. Awkwardly finishing up Chop Sticks, you rub your eyes and look out the window, looks like its early morning already. Giving a sigh, you get up and smell yourself, not surprisingly, you stink. A nice shower before bed is what you need.
  119.
  120. Riding the train alone to Canterlot, you jiggle the bag of bits in your hand. In 2 weeks Nightmare Night will begin, and you got just the idea to really blow Luna’s mind out of the water, a song dedicated solely to her, Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. Why didn’t you think of this sooner? It’s the perfect song to play for her on her big night, she’ll love it, but you’ll need help moving that big ass piano all the way to the royal palace. You decided it best to go visit your old friend back in Canterlot, he was the pony who made you that piano, it was his crowning achievement, and he made you swear to tell him whenever you planned on moving it.
  121.
  122. As the train reaches it destination, you get up and head out. Looking at the giant castle’s outline as the sun begins to set; you pick up the pace towards that famous music shop in central Canterlot. If you wrap things up quickly, perhaps you can visit Luna a bit. After a good solid hour, you finally reach the shop. Its chaste white walls, reflective black windows, doors, and solid gold door handle spoke volumes of the elegance and prestige of those who shopped here.
  123. Walking in, the doors almost glide open and closed, you see the same pegasus pony in the corner playing the almost nonstop music for the store. His elegant hooves strike key after key creating elegant music that floats in the air, he’s been working here since the start with no intention of leaving.
  124. Looking around, you see the earth stallion that made the piano you have today. He appears to be conversing with an upper-class unicorn stallion.
  125. “That price is outrageous!” The unicorn stomps angrily with his snooty accent that tells you he looks down on anyone who doesn’t make as much as he does “I refuse to pay that much for an instrument that was used.”
  126. The stallion simply looks at him without a single care of slight change of expression and casually replies “If that is what you wish, you know where the door is. I know plenty of other ponies, who would easily pay double for my work, I’m sure they will pick it up when they come in next time.”
  127. The unicorn is taken aback and looks around at the indifferent expressions of the Canterlot elite, being thought of as “poor” is worse than death to these ponies. If he walks away now, it’s as good as being the big social pariah at any gathering or event. To poor to even buy a single instrument that other richer ponies would have paid double for. He doesn’t even second guess it, the choice has been made
  128. “If other ponies would pay double for it, I’ll pay triple.” He says floating out his pocket book and scribbling something down. He floats it over to him and he picks it up, slowly placing it into a nearby register. The unicorn floats over the instrument, and trots out keeping his appearance of melancholy and disgust.
  129.
  130. You walk over and wait by the counter, though he noticed you, he’s never one to rush or do things in a quick manner. Slow and steady is the motto by which he lives.
  131. “So what brings you here Anon? Are you in need of a tuning?”
  132. “Bass, I’m gonna need help moving the piano. I need it at the royal palace for Nightmare Night.”
  133. “The royal palace?” He asked confused
  134. You explain to him everything that’s happened and how you plan to play song just for the princess. He nods his head at the idea
  135. “All right, I’ll get my best and brightest to move it back, I’ll need to look at it here for a clean and tune-up before I send off to the palace. Don’t want you giving my company a bad name because you couldn’t take care of it.”
  136. “Don’t worry, I’ve been…”
  137. The atmospheric piano music that was playing in the background comes to a sudden stop, and after a moment, the most beautiful sounds begin to emit from behind you.
  138. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFJfzzkQgLk
  139. Turning around, you see a young looking gray mare against the piano. The stallion starts up after her, and without the aid of any sheets or even her own eyes. She plays without pause or error, not even the slightest bit of uncertainty.
  140. It steals your breath away as you watch her guide the bow back and forth in quick and slow motions. She slightly shifts her body from time to time as though sneaking in a dance she can’t contain within. Small strands of her mane slightly dangle in front of her face, but it does little to stop her. Her music swells inside your very core, and it’s almost like you have to gasp to breathe in. Feelings like that are rare, and you don’t want it to end, but she slowly stops and places the instrument down before getting back on all fours. She gently places the violin back onto a display and shakes her head as though it did not meet her approval. Shockingly to you, nobody clapped or cheered, despite everyone stopping what they were doing to listen and watch her.
  141. “So you want me to come pick it up tomorrow? The sooner the better, I have very little time for myself these days, and ”
  142. “Um hold on.” You say quickly seeing that the mare is going to be leaving, you rush over to her and she hears you coming. She stops and looks at you as you approach.
  143. “Ummm hi.” You blurt
  144. “Hello.” She replies “Can I help you?”
  145. “I just wanted to say that you played wonderfully.”
  146. “Thank you. Is that all?”
  147. “Um yeah.”
  148. She continues out the door with that same indifferent expression and attitude as any of the other ponies. You sigh as Bass walks up to you,
  149. “Her names Octavia, she’s a real big shot in the classical music scene.”
  150. “Wow, she’s amazing. How often does she come here?”
  151. “Not often. Sorry to rush you, but I must be closing up for tonight.”
  152. As he walks you and the other ponies out, you turn to leave when Bass calls out to you.
  153. “So I’ll come pick up the piano first thing in the morning, you’d had better be ready.”
  154. “Sure.” You say back to him as you head into the direction of the castle.
  155.
  156. With the castle in sight, you look up at the tower that Luna is usually perched on. You see her looking through a giant telescope with a couple of her night guards flying in the area. One of them spots you and swoops down, he lands just a few feet away from you.
  157. “Anonymous sir, have you come to exchange words with Princess Luna?”
  158. As you open your mouth to reply, you hear Luna call out your name.
  159. “Anonymous, so nice to see you this night.” She says flapping down, landing next to the guard she nods to him and he flies away. “What brings you here?”
  160. “Just wanted to stop by and see how you’re doing.”
  161. “I’m doing well, and I’m happy you came all this way to visit. Come walk with me.” She says passing you,
  162. Trotting along, she talks to you about little things that she’s been up to and you do the same.
  163.
  164. Inside the castle, you follow her into a gigantic room, where ponies are all about fixing and preparing it. You see many colorful and dark decorations lined about and Luna looks around at them all. She walks passed you and sits herself at a table, she motions you to walk over and you take a seat next to her.
  165. “Do you like it? It’s the starting preparations for the Nightmare Night celebration.”
  166. “You really went all out.”
  167. “But of course, it’s my big night after all. I spared no expense in making this a Nightmare Night to remember!” She decrees in her royal Canterlot voice.
  168. “Sounds like fun.” You smile rubbing your eyes tiredly,
  169. “Anonymous, would you like spend the night with me?” You look over at her wide eyed, “If you’re not busy that is, it gets so tiresome waiting for the night to pass.” She sighs “And I could really use the company.”
  170. “Haha, sure hehe I..I’d love to.” You smile at her
  171. “Excellent, come with me.” She says getting up, walking with her outside, she lowers herself for you to get on, on her back; she extends her wings and flies up to the tower. Setting down, you get off and she takes her position at the telescope.
  172. “So what do you want to do?” You ask sitting down by her,
  173. “You finished the book correct?”
  174. “Yeah.”
  175. “Tell me, how does it end, do the mare and stallion fall in love and live happily ever after?”
  176. “Nah no spoilers.” You smile, “Read it yourself.”
  177. “Couldn’t you just make an exception? We have so little time to ourselves these days, please?” She asks sweetly while grinning sincerely
  178. “Nope.” You say flatly looking forward out at the night sky; she groans and looks over in the same direction. Looking down, you see the guard ponies sleeping on the job.
  179. “It’s such a shame they don’t often stay awake to see all the beauty that the night has to offer, few creatures can truly appreciate it.” Luna speaks as you look up at her tall elegant frame,
  180. “I can.” You say as she looks down at you and smiles
  181. “I know, thank you for spending this time with me.”
  182.
  183. Watching the sun rise together, Luna and you both yawn, as the sounds of the first morning birds chirp. With the sun in their eyes, the guards down below slowly groan and moan themselves awake. Luna walks next to you and winks before looking down at the guards.
  184. “Sleep well?” She smiles as the guards stand rigid before saluting
  185. “Princess!” They both shout, “We have failed in our duties as Royal Guards, we deeply apologize!”
  186. With a bow, they hang their heads in shame
  187. “It is true, you did sleep on the job, a fitting punishment must be given.” Luna ponders “So be it, on the night of your next graveyard shift, you shall get a full days rest before hand, so that this error will never happen again.” The guards look up at her shocked to have received such a light punishment “Now go on before I change my mind.”
  188. The guards high tail it out of sight while you chuckle
  189. “That was fun.” You say getting up, “Well, I’ll see ya later.”
  190.
  191.
  192. ENDING SINCE I WONT FINISH IT
  193.
  194. Anon was going to enlist the help of Octavia to perform a duet for Luna of Nightmare Night. At first she isn’t interested, but comes around thinking it would be a great way of getting her name out there more by playing with a strange creature.
  195.
  196. The two play, and practice, and Anon slowly starts liking her. She is indifferent to it, but slowly comes around. Luna and Anon meanwhile have their talks, and continue to discuss the book and the growing relationship between the MC and love interest. Luna tries to imply her own feelings, but also mentions how the book did not have a happy ending. Anon is conflicted since he likes both mares, but in the end, he decides to go with Luna. After the party, and song, Luna and Anon are alone in her room, and she kisses him as a way to say thank you. She tells Anon that despite how she feels, her life is one that can not be shared for very long. Each relationship she is in, only ends with her love dying, but she remembers each one, and carries with her something to remember them by. She thanks Anon for the beautiful song that will accompany her long after he passes. It ends with Anon and Octavia at his home tuning their instruments, before kissing good night.
