- >The sun coming in through the window feels warm on your face
- >You don't especially want to get up yet, but something at the back of your mind is nagging at you
- >Today was an important day, but you don't remember why
- >A crash from downstairs has you groaning into your pillow
- "Fine, dammit, I'm up."
- >Before you have a chance to put your words into action, however, two shapes dart through your door
- >Oh god. You remember why today was important
- >You are suddenly mob rushed by two small ponies
- >"First day of school! First day of school!"
- >They're bouncing on you Anon
- >It hurts your fragile organs
- "Okay, okay!"
- >You scoop them up under your arms and leap out of bed
- >Depositing them on the floor you size them up
- >Pumpkin needs a mane cut
- "So. Looking forward to your first day of... what was it? Community service?"
- >Pound looks up at you earnestly
- >"School, Anon. It's the first day of school"
- >You wave your hand dismissively
- "Pshha. You don't need school. I never went to school, and look how I-"
- >You all stop as a delicious aroma fills the room
- >It's pancakes
- >You grab the ponies by the shoulders
- >Biting you lower lip to stop the tears, you look down at them and open your mouth. All that comes out is a cracked whimper
- >"We know, Anon. You love pancakes"
- >You gesture at the door and cover your face
- >Pumpkin and Pound look at each other. They roll their eyes and go downstairs for breakfast
- >After they leave, you chuckle quietly to yourself and get ready for the day
- >Downstairs, you find everyone already at the table
- >Pinkie looks up from her plate
- >"Saved you some, Anon"
- >Pound is banging his hooves on the table with impatience
- >Looks like they've both finished eating
- >"Hurry up Anon!"
- >Pumpkin looks worried
- >"We'll be late!"
- >You slow down purposefully, eating the pancakes with the deliberation of a brain surgeon cutting up someones grey matter
- >The twins look appalled
- >"ANON!"
- >They whine
- >You laugh
- "Nearly done"
- >Pinkie laughs too
- >Finally you've eaten the last morsel. The twins waste no time in grabbing their bags and running for the door
- "Hey! Wait for me!"
- >You try to pile the plates up by the sink, but Pinkie stops you
- >"Go. I can deal with this"
- >You smile before rushing after the twins
- >Pinkie giggles to herself and sighs
- >A sigh of contentment
- >She was happy here
- >And here she would remain
- >With Anon
- >You sprint down the street after the twins
- "Hey! Come back! We're supposed to be walking together! That's the point!"
- >They just turn and laugh
- >Thankfully, they're still young, and you catch up to them with ease
- >Oh look, you've made it to school
- >You wave to the teacher, a Miss Cheerilee
- >She waves back from the doorway
- >"Anon! Stop embarrassing us!"
- >You pull you hand back down
- "Sorry"
- >Pound runs off to the swing set
- "I'll be back afterwards to pick you up!"
- >"Yeah, whatever!"
- >He smiles back at you
- "Damn you, child! Damn you!"
- >You call back in your best bourgeois voice
- >You feel a sudden weight on your leg
- >It's Pumpkin
- >She's got ahold of it pretty tight
- >You kneel down
- "What's up?"
- >She barely makes eye contact with you
- >"What if I don't like it? What if I don't make any friends?"
- >It seems like all the confidence belonged to her brother
- >You hug her
- "Who wouldn't want to be friends with you? You'll do great, I promise."
- >She doesn't look convinced
- >You shrug
- "If you stay all day, I'll bring you some candy when I come to pick you up, m'kay?"
- >She nods, smiling
- "Now scoot"
- >She runs up to join her brother
- >As you leave, you look back. They're both talking and playing with the other young ponies
- >You smile, then walk away
- >On your way back you wander almost aimlessly through town. You've got some time to kill
- >Stopping by the flower shop, you pick up a bouquet of flowers
- >You hold them over your shoulder, enjoying the summers day
- >All through town you walk, until you reach the gate
- >You must have walked through here dozens of times
- >You could do it blindfold
- >All the way to the headstones
- >You remove the dead flowers and replace them with the ones you bought
- >You sit down cross legged
- "The flowers were getting old so I bought some new ones.
- It was the first day of school today. Just like I said it would go, Pound rushed in.
- Pumpkin needed a little coaxing, but she made it there in the end.
- Me and Pinkie are taking good care of the house.
- And of each other."
- >You laugh. Then your smile turns sad
- "I miss you both. Every day."
- >You look at the old watch on your wrist
- "Better get going. I'll be back to tell you how their day went."
- >You walk out of the cemetery
- >Back to the life you wouldn't trade for the world
