  1. >”You’re never going to get it on if you don’t stop fidgeting.”
  2. >Luna smacks your hand away from your tie as she continues to fiddle with it.
  3. “I had it right the first time. You need to calm down.”
  4. >”I am calm. It is you who must behave. This day will not be ruined by little mistakes.”
  5. “It will if you don’t let me fix it myself.”
  6. >You manage to escape her grasp and fix your tie.
  7. “See? Done.”
  8.
  9. >”If you just let me do it-“
  10. “We’d have been here past the ceremony.”
  11. >”Don’t use that tone with me. You may be a prince, but not of this land.”
  12. “Boo hoo, cry about it later.”
  13. >She scoffs at you and exits as Acus enters.
  14. >”Trouble with the bride?”
  15. “Women… How do they work?”
  16.
  17. >”So turns out the noble prince really did get himself hitched. What a thing.”
  18. “Thanks for coming back. I know we didn’t leave on the best of terms.”
  19. >He rests his hand on your shoulder.
  20. >”Don’t worry about it. I was out of line.”
  21. “Really? You do? Did you turn over a new leaf when I wasn’t looking?”
  22. >”Something like that. This is your day, take it for what it is.”
  23. “Thanks Acus, truly.”
  24. >”Just don’t be pissed when shit hits the fan.”
  25.
  26. >You wave off the seemingly drunk bastard.
  27. >He’s like a completely different person now that he’s back.
  28. >Not that you don’t like it, it’s just a bit odd for the great barbarian to show a human side.
  29. >You shrug it off and continue prepping for the wedding.
  30. >”Well look at you all nice and fancy.”
  31. >You turn to meet Twilight who was already in her dress.
  32. >Stunning would be an understatement.
  33.
  34. >You give her a tender hug, combing your hands through her mane.
  35. “I missed you.”
  36. >”Me too.”
  37. >You reluctantly pull away from the embrace, returning to your own attire.
  38. >”You didn’t come to the library last night.”
  39. “I’m sorry about that. Luna had me in another pinch of hers going over last minute design choices. You understand.”
  40. >”Yeah… I do…”
  41.
  42. >Not that tone again.
  43. >You take a knee and look right at Twilight.
  44. “There’s nothing to worry about. I’ll be the same man after that I am now. I’ll be here. Trust me.”
  45. >Tears well up in her eyes anyways. She’s not so convinced.
  46. >You lean in and kiss her ever so gently.
  47. “I’ll be here.”
  48. >She sniffs, smiling back at you.
  49. >”Ok.”
  50.
  51. >You give her one last hug before she leaves.
  52. “Everything’s set right?”
  53. >”Yes, we’re just waiting on you and… the bride.”
  54. >It pains you to hear her speak that way.
  55. >You have no idea what she must be going through.
  56. “I’ll see you there.”
  57. >”Don’t keep me waiting.”
  58. >She exits the room, taking your joy along with her.
  59.
  60. >You finish dressing yourself, tucking in your pants, and cleaning yourself up.
  61. >The ceremony has a strict no weapons policy, so you make sure to take those out of the equation, but what they don’t know won’t hurt them.
  62. >You sit down, and try to relax.
  63. >You have no problem charging into a battlefield, but here? You’re as timid as Fluttershy.
  64. >This isn’t exactly the type of situation you’re used to.
  65. >The door swings open and Flash steps in.
  66. >”Anon, we’re ready for you.”
  67.
  68. >You stand up and follow him, leaving everything behind.
  69. >The two of you wade through the wave of ponies in the castle.
  70. >”Congratulations Anon. It’ll be an honor to call you my prince.”
  71. “Thanks Flash. I’m glad you’re here for me.”
  72. >You step into the grand hall where Flash stays behind.
  73. >”To the Future,” he salutes.
  74. >You return it and slowly walk down the aisle.
  75.
  76. >You spot your men on one side, Acus at the front, being your best man and all.
  77. >At the other side stand the mane 6, except Fluttershy who’s on the balcony with her birds.
  78. >Luna and Celestia haven’t arrived yet. Celestia is to come in last, while Luna is to follow you shortly.
  79. >You reach the end and stand before the altar, Twilight directly across from you.
  80. >Fluttershy’s birds go on cue, signaling Luna’s entrance.
  81. >All eyes turn to the doors as Luna begins her arrival.
  82.
  83. >Three fillies burst from the entrance sprinkling an assortment of flowers on the ground.
  84. >They hop around playfully, not even fully comprehending the events they’re attending.
  85. >Behind them, Luna walks head held high toward you.
  86. >She too looks remarkable as her dress sways from side to side.
  87. >What her attitude lacks, her sheer elegance makes up for.
  88. >A thousand ponies would kill for the opportunity to wed such a creature, but you’re the one who’s stuck with the task.
  89.
  90. >All those niggling doubts creep upon you again.
  91. >It’s for the greater good you continue telling yourself.
  92. >You turn to Twilight, who has done the same.
  93. >She’ll stand at your side through thick and thin.
  94. >If she’s willing to see this through, then so are you.
  95. >Both of you smile, Luna cutting the view between you.
  96. >”Quite the mare isn’t she?”
  97.
  98. >You ignore her and face the altar.
  99. >”Not many have had the will to stick around with her for so long. She must be special.”
  100. >Her voice is hushed to avoid suspicion.
  101. >It’s becoming harder and harder to just ignore her while she calls you on the carpet.
  102. >”You love her don’t you?”
  103. “More than someone like you would know,” you whisper.
  104. >”I’m glad for you,” she says almost expressing sympathy.
  105. >She might actually be able to feel such things after all.
  106. >”I’m glad for both of you.”
  107. “So am I Luna. So am I…”
  108.
  109. >The music reaches its apex, and the there’s silence as Celestia stand before you both.
  110. >You and Luna nod at Celestia, signaling your full commitment to the ceremony.
  111. >She clears her throat and begins the ceremony.
  112. >”Mares and gentlecolts, we are gathered here today to witness the union of Princess Luna and Prince Anon of Glaemar.”
  113. >This is it. The most important decision of your life and it’s not even of your own accord.
  114. >Just stick it out Anon, it’s just words. It changes nothing.
  115.
  116. >”For many years we have lived at ease with the land of Erreda, but today will change all of that.”
  117. >”Today we will join hands with those across the great sea, starting with the two before us.”
  118. >”The strength of their commitment is clear. The power of their love, undeniable.”
  119. >You contain your laughter at the irony of those two statements.
  120. >”Princess Luna, do you take Prince Anon to be your husband, to care for and cherish, in sickness and in health?”
  121. >”I do.”
  122.
  123. >”And do you, Prince Anon, take Princess Luna to be your wedded wife, to care for and cherish in sickness and in health?”
  124. >You look back to Twilight, who nods her head.
  125. “I do.”
  126. >Spike brings up the rings, Celestia hovering them accordingly.
  127. “I hereby pronounce you husband and wife. “
  128. >The two of you kiss, and the crowd goes into an uproar.
  129. >A loud crack tears you two apart, a rainbow scorching across the sky.
  130. >Damn, you just lost ten bits.
  131.
  132. >Pinkie jumps in the air her voice booming over the others.
  133. >”Let’s get his party STARTED!”
  134. >Suddenly boom boxes. So many boom boxes.
  135. >The place becomes a mess of clattered ponies.
  136. >Luna looks at you and smiles, “Go find your girlfriend.”
  137. >You give her an unexpected hug before you dive into the crowd in search of Twilight.
  138. >The other ponies don’t make things any easier on you.
  139.
  140. >You sift through the crowd until you stumble upon Rarity and the rest of the mane 6, but no Twilight.
  141. >”Darling, shouldn’t you be with Luna?”
  142. “No. Do you know here Twilight is?”
  143. >”I’m afraid I don’t. Though I don’t blame her for going.”
  144. “Going where?”
  145. >Rarity shuts up, realizing her slip of words.
  146. >What the hell is wrong with her?
  147.
  148. “Pinkie? Fluttershy? Rainbow Dash?”
  149. >None of them say a word.
  150. “Applejack, please, where’s Twilight?”
  151. >”She wants to be alone right now Anon.”
  152. “I know her. Just tell me please.”
  153. >She looks away from you, avoiding your gaze.
  154. >”She’s outside in the courtyard.”
  155.
  156. >You thank her and take off down the castle corridors.
  157. >You’ve basically got the castle memorized by now so it doesn’t take long to reach it.
  158. >You step into the courtyard, looking around for the missing Twilight.
  159. >There doesn’t appear to be any sign of her, but Applejack isn’t a liar, so she’ll be here.
  160. >This was too much for her to bear; you knew she shouldn’t have come.
  161. >Especially at the kiss, that’s probably what threw her over the edge.
  162. >You hear a sob coming from the hedges.
  163. >The one thing you can’t stand…
  164.
  165. “Twilight!” You call out to her.
  166. >The sobs stop, but only for the moment. She can run, but she can’t hide.
  167. >You continue your search which has narrowed down to one section of the yard.
  168. “Twilight!”
  169. >Another sob breaks through and you head for its source.
  170. >You find a medium sized fountain closed off by the grove surrounding it.
  171. >At its side sits Twilight. A few tears dripping into the water’s base.
  172.
  173. >You don’t say anything as you move up behind her and embrace her.
  174. >She doesn’t struggle, but you unleash the dam that has been building up within her.
  175. >You hold her all the while as she releases her tears on you.
  176. “I’m here Twilight. I’m here.”
  177. >So you sit there with her curled up in your arms.
  178. >The tears start to subside and she seems to be a bit better.
  179. “You alright?”
  180. >”Now I am…”
  181.
  182. >You nuzzle her neck and scratch behind her ears, Twilight emitting several coos.
  183. >You rest your head against hers, her mane brushing against your skin.
  184. “Let’s skip the party. Just forget all about it.”
  185. >Twilight looks interested at the proposal.
  186. “We can just sit in the library, drinking cocoa, and look at the stars.”
  187. >You look in her beautiful violet eyes.
  188. “Would you like that?”
  189. >She nods and brings her face into your shoulder, rubbing your neck affectionately.
  190. >Everything turned out better than expected…
  191.
  192. >You help Twilight up and both of you walk to the castle.
  193. >On to warm chocolate delights and other nightly wonders.
  194. >You pause at the entrance as your platoon of soldiers come marching out.
  195. >One of them hands you a slip as you walk inside.
  196. >”New orders sir.”
  197. >You salute him and unravel it while you walk.
  198. >By direct order from the king blahdy blahdy blah…
  199. >The fuck is this?
  200.
  201. >You stand there staring at the letter dumbstruck.
  202. >”Anon?”
  203. >She nudges you, but you don’t respond. You can’t respond.
  204. >”Anon what’s wrong?”
  205. >The letter falls from your hands, drifting towards the cold floor.
  206. >He wouldn’t… That bastard!
  207. >You run as fast as your feet can carry you, leaving Twilight behind.
  208. >You just hope you’re not too late.
  209.
  210. >The room where the ceremony took place is mostly empty.
  211. >A few ponies chit chat, but you’re not concerned about that.
  212. >You peer out of one of the windows into the grounds which seems to be where the party has moved to.
  213. >You slip into the crowd who’s too far gone to even register you.
  214. >This is just a prank right? There’s no way he’d do something like that.
  215. >No… This is just something he would do.
  216.
  217. >You spot Luna conversing with Celestia at the edge of the crowd.
  218. >For once you’re relieved to see her.
  219. >At least you don’t see… Acus…
  220. >He stands a ways away from them, but he’s close enough for you to care.
  221. >He notices you and tips his mug before he downs the entire thing.
  222. >Setting it down, he begins to walk towards the princesses, a shimmer from his coat catching your eye.
  223. >No, not today you mother fucker.
  224.
  225. >Moving through the crowd you attempt to intercept him.
  226. “Excuse me. Pardon me.”
  227. >The closer he gets, the further you are. Bull shit.
  228. >You ignore subtly and push the ponies out of your way.
  229. >A few yell at you for being rude, but you could care less right now.
  230. >This is bigger than them, and you won’t let him off easy.
  231. >Acus reaches the princesses you hot on his tail.
  232.
  233. >”King John sends his regards.”
  234. >He reaches into his coat as you collide into him.
  235. “Not on my watch!”
  236. >Both of you are thrown down the hill, still entwined as you fall.
  237. >His punches are erratic but devastating, while yours are precise but weak.
  238. >He rolls on top of you when you reach the bottom of the hill and proceeds to beat you down.
  239. >You cover your face, but that leaves your stomach exposed.
  240.
  241. >After a minute of beating he slows down still pinning you underneath him.
  242. >”Orders are orders. We have a job to finish.”
  243. >You spit a wad of blood in his face.
  244. “Fuck you Acus.”
  245. >He smiles, “As you wish.”
  246. >You punch him in the balls once more, weakening his position.
  247. >He falls to the side gripping his gonads as you get up.
  248.
  249. >It doesn’t take long for him to follow, withdrawing a machete from his coat.
  250. >How did he get that thing into the party at all?
  251. >”You’re going to pay for that. You don’t have your father to save you now.”
  252. “Screw him. No one is going to ruin my life anymore.”
  253. >He charges and swings, missing by a mile.
  254. >He’s used to brute strength instead of finesse.
  255. “Come on, just try to get me. I won’t even move this time.”
  256. >He charges again bringing the machete down from above.
  257.
  258. >You step to the side as his knife imbeds into the ground leaving him open.
  259. >You grip his arm and stab him in the armpit with your blade, twisting it around for good measure.
  260. >”You said… won’t move.”
  261. “I lied,” you whisper to him as he falls backwards.
  262. >You move in for the finishing blow, stabbing him at the back of his neck.
  263. >He tenses up only to fall lifelessly to the side.
  264. “May Tartarus take you swiftly comrade.”
  265.
  266. >You fish through his clothing taking out a letter of his own.
  267. >It was the same as the other, the king’s seal imprinted on the corner.
  268. >That bastard will pay for this.
  269. >A few guards come by and drag Acus away.
  270. >You thank them for the help to which they don’t respond.
  271. >Were you being too sarcastic?
  272. >You trudge back up the hill battered from your scuffle.
  273.
  274. >Twilight helps you once you reach the top, allowing you to use her body to balance yourself.
  275. >”Did I read that letter right?”
  276. >You point to yourself and laugh lightly.
  277. “It certainly seems that way.”
  278. >”ANON!” Oh god not that voice. “You have some explaining to do.”
  279. >The party seems to have been dispersed after your little show.
  280. >The mane 6 and the princesses take you back inside in the castle.
  281.
  282. >You’re taken to the formal chambers where you first met with Celestia.
  283. >You feel like a prisoner inside these walls, you just hope you aren’t treated as one.
  284. >Celestia carries a letter of with her; probably the one Twilight gave her which you dropped.
  285. >”I’m going to have a few words with your King.”
  286. >That doesn’t sound good; things are turning out a lot worse than expected….
  287. >”Explain,” Luna says without her bout of anger.
  288. “I wish I could.”
  289.
  290. >”Why would he do this? Didn’t he want to see this deal through?”
  291. “Peace isn’t a well known word where I’m from, but too much war leaves a stain on his record.”
  292. >”What’s that supposed to mean sugarcube?”
  293. “It means this isn’t something I’m surprised he’d do. He just needed another way to start a war without causing suspicion.”
  294. >”But why try and make a wedding in the first place?” Pinkie chimes in.
  295. “I don’t know. It probably worked best for him I guess.”
  296.
  297. “If Acus hadn’t been my best man…”
  298. >”Then he wouldn’t have been able to reach the princess.”
  299. “That old coot’s smarter than I thought.”
  300. >Luna’s still a bit on edge from the ordeal.
  301. >”How can we even trust you now, after this?”
  302. >You give her the ‘really’ look and stare at her.
  303. >”If it wasn’t for him, you probably would have been lying on the bottom of the hill instead of Acus.”
  304. “Thanks Twilight.”
  305.
  306. >”Perhaps, but this is all a bit too convenient how he shows up at the last minute to rescue me.”
  307. “I only learned about it when my men found me and gave me a letter like this.”
  308. >You toss it to Luna who inspects it herself.
  309. “You can just ready my mind if you want; I had no idea what was going to happen. I’m sorry.”
  310. >”Do not be. I know you speak the truth.”
  311. “Thank you, it means a lot.”
  312. >The door screeches open as Celestia walks through.
  313.
  314. >”Your king was less than receptive. He claimed to know nothing of the order.”
  315. “Sounds just like him.”
  316. >”He took the accusations as a personal blow to his person. Things didn’t turn out well…”
  317. >He never was a good liar, he tends to cover his tracks with anger.
  318. “Him and his damned ego.”
  319. >Celestia silently agrees with you and nods.
  320. >”I’m afraid we’ll have to cut your honeymoon short. We are now at war with Erreda.”
  321.
  322. “W-what?”
  323. >”Princess, you can’t be serious?”
  324. >”Isn’t that a bit much sister?”
  325. >”It was not my choice, if we had dropped the charges he would have been sated, but I would not do so.”
  326. “War… with Erreda. Have things gotten so bad?”
  327. >Twilight comforts you, but that’s not what you need right now.
  328. >What you need is justice.
  329. >Rope. Where are you?
  330.
  331. >”I will arrange for you to be escorted to the docks. A boat has already been chartered to take you back home.”
  332. “No.”
  333. >Celestia looks surprised, as does everyone else.
  334. “I’m not running back home now. My life is here now, not back in that piss pot.”
  335. >Celestia nods, Luna smiles. The others still churning their mental wheels.
  336. >”Do you really wish to stay?” Twilight asks wholeheartedly.
  337. “Yes.”
  338.
  339. >You finish packing your things and stow them onto your back.
  340. >”Today’s the day huh?”
  341. “I’ll be back before you know it,” you reassure her.
  342. >It’s been a couple months since the failed assassination of Princess Luna and Celestia.
  343. >A couple months spent training for the coming war that rested on the horizon.
  344. >And now, the time is finally upon you to pick up the sword to defend your home.
  345. >Equestria, your new home.
  346.
  347. >”Why can’t I come with you? I could help; I’ve been practicing my magic everday. I-“
  348. >You silence her with a kiss.
  349. “I could never forgive myself if something happened to you Twilight. I need you here.”
  350. >She bows her head, “Okay,” she says depressingly.
  351. >You lift her chin up and smile.
  352. “Give me something to look forward to alright?”
  353. >She forces a smile of her own, “Okay.”
  354.
  355. >You walk out of the castle joining your contingent of troops.
  356. >Your personal unit is small, but they get the job done.
  357. >They were hand picked and trained under you, so they’ll do you proud.
  358. >Ponies watch solemnly from the streets as they see your force off.
  359. >Sorrow fills the city’s streets, a few ponies hugging their husbands as they’re ushered off to war.
  360. >This land is a land of peace and harmony, not of war and chaos.
  361. >Your enemies will pay for their transgression.
  362.
  363. >You pass outside the castle meeting the rest of your force.
  364. >You recognize one of the unicorns as your second-in-command and approach him.
  365. >He salutes you, “Shining Armor reporting for duty sir.”
  366. “At ease, are your men ready?”
  367. >”They are sir. We’ve been training hard everyday. Orders sir?”
  368. “Where have the Erredians disembarked at?”
  369. >He pulls out a map outlining the current fields of war.
  370.
  371. >”Last I heard King John disembarked at the north east shore. Celestia is moving to meet them in three days time.”
  372. “Where’s the rest of his army?”
  373. >”They’ve taken hold of the shore and another unit has been sent west towards the castle.”
  374. “We will meet them then. Who’s in command?”
  375. >”One Ulsted sir.”
  376. “Ulsted? It’ll be nice to see him again.”
  377.
  378. >”Sir?”
  379. >You sigh and look towards the open road.
  380. “Move out!”
  381. >You and Shining Armor lead the march to war.
  382. >”Who’s Ulsted sir?”
  383. “He’s a hard-assed son of a bitch. Older brothers tend to be that way.”
  384. >Shining Armor thinks you’re worried, how wrong he is.
  385. “Let’s go say hello.”
