Celestia is an important pony, meeting with dignitaries from all over. It would be a shame if she looked chunky in front of them. Luna luckily doesn't need to meet with them as much as Celestia does. She can hold all those extra pounds while Celestia can finally enjoy as much cake as she wants.
 
Might even splurge with an all cake meal for breakfast lunch and dinner
 
meanwhile Luna is stuck in bed, rubbing her growing gut and belching cake she never ate, wondering how this is happening
 
Everytime she tries to get out of bed, it feels like she just ate the largest meal. She is slow and sluggish, always tired. Celestia encourages her to stay in bed to let this "illness" pass. Much easier to binge on cake with Luna not waddling around trying to find answers
 
Celestia also insists she eat normally claiming that it is unhealthy to skip meals even when sick. She has the chefs bring her something to eat at usual time. Luna being oblivious, agrees and tries to force herself to eat normal food, while constantly being cake filled
 
Celestia, being addicted to cake, keeps saying just for a little while longer. Constantly pushing Luna's weight higher and higher. Before she knew it, Luna became bedridden, swollen with fat and still feeling stuffed. She wonders if maybe she took it too far. Perhaps she should cut down the cake consumption? But already her cravings kicked in. Perhaps one more binge before kicking the habit.
 
Of course, that never really is the last one
 
Other than that, Celestia would try and comfort Luna instead, get her used to her new life as an immobile princess. Either that or give up cake. But she feels taking care of a Luna blob is easier than kicking the habit .
 
At least in her dreams she can still do her job as a normal sized pony
