Maybe we could find something similar to accomodate you." >You think for a while before answering, "I liked comics, do you have those here?" >"Comics? What are those?" She inquires >You explain the multitude of superhero comics you read as a kid, the television shows that were based on them, and the heroic feats that some of your favorites accomplished >She listens intently, taking notes almost constantly. You find it odd that she would take notes about something trivial like this, but you suppose that's just what she does. >"So you're saying that you had magazine-like booklets that depicted acts of great heroism of your time or of past times?" She asks excitedly. >You nod as she continues, "And the people that had these...abilities, they wore costumes that represented their powers? Much like how our cutie marks represent our talents?" >"Well, similarly I suppo-" >"Oh this is exciting! To think humans could fly without wings, or fire beams of energy without magic! Or lift things many times their own weight with little effort!" She is writing furiously now. >"Woah, no you've got it all wro-" >"So what was your power?"   Wat do?           >You take a drink of the cider Applejack gave to you as a gift as you think >You decide you'll play along with this line of questioning for the time being >"I...studied these instances" >"Really?! Oh that must have been exciting! Did you see any in person? Did you ever help in one of these amazing events?" She is prancing in place with excitement. >"Ha, well, I never saw any in person. Mostly through those comics and through the television. I uh, I don't have any of those powers."   [Twilight understands what a T.V. is, as you have talked about it previously]   >"Oh...well that's alright! You must have learned a lot!" >"Uh, yeah. I learned a lot about the human spirit, and courage, and stuff. They were good videos to see as a kid." >"As..a child? Why would a child watch something of this nature? Aren't they a little....violent?" >That comment gets you a little heated. What is she, some kind of over protective soccer mom? >"Hey, that was quality entertainment made for everyone. Including kids." >"Made? You mean...these weren't documentaries?" >"What? No....is that what you thought I meant? Oh no, these were for enjoyment. No human really had those kinds of powers. I'm not sure the world would be in one piece if we did." >She's more than a little disappointed, gently returning to a sitting position near her ink well and paper. >You're not sure why she's taking it so hard.   Wat do?             >You walk over to her and sit next to her instead of on the makeshift chair she had made for your visits >"What's wrong Twilight?" >"N-Nothing! I'm alright!" She says, forcing a smile. You can see she's still upset, so you press the point >"Tell me what's up, maybe I can help." >"I just thought maybe in your world, your people are like me and my friends. And that we could figure out a way back to your world and see these amazing feats and have all kinds of wonderful adventures! Oh, listen to me, I sound like a little fillie." >You put your arm around her, giving her a gentle hug >"Twilight, that's what makes my time here so special. Nobody I ever knew could do anything like you or your friends can. Pegasi fly, Unicorns use powerful magic and Earth ponies are incredibly hard working. You alone perform feats every day that I couldn't have dreamed of in my world. It's a privelege to be here, and to be your friend." >"And who says we can't have adventures here? Heck, I hear you've had quite a few already! Maybe next time I can tag along!" You give her a wink and a gentle squeeze. >She smiles. "You're right, I don't know why I'm getting so bothered by this. You're here with us, and it's wonderful to talk to you about all the things in your world and your experiences." >"But if I'm going to take you on an adventure, you should tell me what you're good at doing. As you said, humans don't have cutie marks or names that signify what they're skilled at." >"And I'm going to make sure that future generations know what your talents were. So, what are your talents?"   What is your answer?         >"Well, I was always told I was a fast learner. I've always been able to pick up tricks and skills that take others much longer to master. And I tinker with technology sometimes." >"So your skill is learning? Sounds...useful." She appears to have ignored the bit about technology. >"What? I mean, I WISH I could fly or do magic. But that just wasn't possible in my world." >Twilight's eyes light up when you say this. "I have an idea!" she proclaims. >You're left sitting on the floor as Twilight bolts to a distant bookshelf and begins rummaging through the books rapidly using her magic. >After about ten minutes or so she prances back excitedly, an old leathery tome shimmering in the air above her. >She plops it into your lap with a whump. >You turn it over in your hands, looking at the etchings on one side of it. To your guess, this is the title of the tome. >Unfortunately, you can't read it. >"What is this, exactly?" >"It's a beginners guide to magic!" She says. >"You mean, real magic? Not party tricks or something?" >"Party tricks? I'm not sure what you mean, like what Pinkie does?" >"Nevermind, that's not important," you say. >You flip through a few pages, then a few pages more. But it's no use, you can't read the text. >"This is generous and all Twilight, but I can't read this." >"You can't read?" >"No, you use different characters and...stuff. I don't know how to read pony. In fact, it's weird that we can understand each other but your writing system is completely different." >You discuss options about this for a bit, then settle on having Twilight teach you how to read at least once a week until you master the writing system. >It's getting late by this point, so Twilight thinks it's time for you to head to your home on the outskirts of town with the leather tome. She thinks having it on hand to skim through might help you learn even faster. >Twilight walks you to the door, excited once again at the prospect of teaching a human. >Before you leave, she tugs on your collar with magic to pull you down to her level. >"I just...wanted to say thank you. For cheering me up. It was silly of me to act like that. But, thank you." >You give her a warm hug before heading out into the night. >You thought being stuck in the land of ponies might not afford you many opportunities. But it seems you're now both closer to Twilight, and to learning powerful magic.
