Title: This is not definitive, as the thread's changed a lot since the early days. Think of these notes as loose guidelines that can be modified/expanded to fit the thread's current tone.   The Notes of Lore:   Hassenfeld Brothers Bio-Engineering has created ponies that are almost exactly like the ones from FIM. The how and why of this is not important as the thread never focuses on it.   Ponies are always shipped to customers in a Cryo-Box, and imprint upon the first human they see when they are released from said box. They are always foals when they emerge from the box and take time to grow to full size with or without the accelerated growth nutrient paste. The accelerated growth paste (referred to as "Rapid-Growth-Accelerant(RGA)" in-universe) is not safe for human consumption and can cause horrible side-effects if consumed by a human. What these side effects are is dependent on what the storyteller wants it to be, but it cannot result in a full-blown human-to-pony transformation.   The ponies that Hasbio produces all comply to Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, presented here with the word "robot" replaced with "pony":   1. A pony may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A pony must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. A pony must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.   Malfunctions are always possible and it is entirely acceptable in this version of the lore to have a story about a pony going insane and trying to murder its owner.   The intelligence of a pony varies depending on the model, but all ponies are intelligent enough to qualify as more than just genetically engineered androids. Ponies are seen as living beings and, while sold as companions, are not treated like cattle or slaves.     Ponies are released as models, with each new model of a certain pony being an improvement over the last. Early models are nowhere near as refined as later models, but can still pass as lifelike. Early models are not abandoned in favor of newer ones and still receive support from the company.   Hasbio was founded by and is run by two brothers: Irwin and Allen. Irwin is a very jokey, silly person who rarely takes his job seriously. Allen is a no-nonsense scientist who takes his job very seriously. While the two are equally responsible for the creation of the ponies, they constantly fight over who did what and try to screw each other over as much as they can. The only thing keeping them in line is the company's Artificial Intelligence, CEL-1SA "Celestia."   Both of them tend to answer questions in the company's Customer Service forums (or answer letters, if you're going really old-school Hasbio Thread). Irwin's answers are comedic in tone and tend to be dismissed as jokes by everyone else in Customer Service, while Allen's answers are no-nonsense, factual responses that are probably taken straight out of the user manual.   There is one pony that the company has never sold: DEr-PX1, the Derpy Hooves prototype. This model is used as the company mascot and is treated like family by Allen and Irwin. At one time this model was used as the customer service representative.
