She stank.   No matter how hard she scrubbed Or rinsed out her mane Petunia would always smell like rotten eggs Or old socks And looked like her hair was swamped with grease So she sat alone. And ate alone. And played alone. And watched as the other fillies joked about her.   One day after class She met a young colt. His name was Teasel. He was very smart. And as kind as could be. But Teasel had one little problem. He was always sick.   But Teasel couldn't smell her. And Petunia never got sick.   So they sat together. And they ate together. And they played together.   And they grew. And they laughed. And they loved. And they lived.   For the first time, Petunia didn't feel dirty. And Teasel felt well. Even though she was. And even though he wasn't.   One day, Teasel went to the hospital. He was feeling particularly bad. So Petunia stayed with him. And she ate with him. And she played with him. But Teasel never got better.   When Petunia heard the news from the doctors She cried. And she cried. And she cried.   So she moved out. Away from the city. Away from everything.   And she stayed alone. And she ate alone. And she certainly didn't play.   And she grew. And she never laughed. And she didn't love. And she lived.   There was once an old mare named Petunia. She was very angry. And was as bitter as could be. But sometimes she would think about the young colt. And for a moment, she would be happy again.
