The song could also be used outside of that situation. The theme of the song is: Who you are isn't what you are, it's what you do. Twofold, the song also addresses themes of prejudice and discrimination, and how you, to borrow from the old adage, shouldn't judge books based on their covers. I wrote this song to be sung by Spike and Treebark, as both of them have been raised by species different from themselves. This is something they can relate to each other on, and make some headway on Treebark's own opinions about his lifestyle.   When writing the lyrics, I envisioned it as a sort of ballad with Celtic influences. Some awesome harmonies could come in during the final duet portion. This is NOT an uptempo song, nor is it a hard-rock/death metal piece. It's moving, fluid, and mystic: A discovery of self.   --   TREEBARK: Then what is... Different?   Is it who you are? Is it what you've been molded into? No, different isn't something that is Easy to be noticed.   Is one dull blade of grass So different from the others? No, just because it's different doesn't Mean it's not the same.   Home is where the heart is. My heart is oh so dear, And home is what I know Is here.   SPIKE: Really, What is different?   Is it how you look? Or the outlook you're presenting? Yeah, different's something judged by What you do and what you say.   These dull blades of grass aren't So different from the others. No, just because we're different   BOTH: Doesn't mean we can't be us.   Home is where the heart is. My heart is oh so dear, And home is what I know Is here.   TREEBARK: Give them time to understand That we're not really worlds apart.   SPIKE: Then, again, they may need a helping hand,   BOTH: To show you cannot end Before you start!   Home is where the heart is. My heart is oh so dear, And home is what I know Is here.   Home is where the heart is. My heart is oh so dear, And home is what I know. Home is all I know. Home is what I know Is here...
