  1. >You're walking through the forest.
  2.
  3. >The sky is bright, and there are clean, white clouds hovering thousands of feet above you. It's a few hours before noon, by the looks of things.
  4. >This part of the forest isn't so saturated with trees as to block out the sun's light, so it's not gloomy.
  5. >Far from it. The whole area seems quite cheerful and pleasant.
  6. >...!
  7. >*Snap*
  8. >You hear something behind you.
  9. >In a fraction of a second, you turn around. Nothing there.
  10. >It sounded like a branch snapped, somewhere.
  11. >Probably nothing.
  12. >After an hour of walking, you happen upon a small path. There is a simple, worn signpost, pointing down the path.
  13. >There is something written on it, but half of the letters are faded beyond readability.
  14. >It reads, " nyvi e."
  15. >The path seems to lead in the general direction of the village, so you decide to follow it.
  16. >While walking, you notice a few forest creatures. Some birds, and rabbits here and there.
  17. >Rabbits which look rather thin compared to others you've seen before.
  18.
  19. >After a couple of minutes, you discover a small stream. The water looks clean enough, so you decide to drink some.
  20. >You've had nothing to drink since yesterday, so you certianly needed it.
  21. >...!
  22. >*Snap*
  23.
  24. >That sound, again. You scan your surroundings.
  25. >You could have sworn you'd seen two glowing, yellow orbs in the distance, for just a second. Now, you see only trees.
  26. >You hesitate for a moment, then continue walking along the path.
  27. >There is a small hill a few hundred feet away from you. You walk towards it, increasing your speed slightly.
  28. >As you get closer to the top of the hill, you can see more and more of the landscape.
  29. >You're closer to the village by now than you would have thought. You can see lots of buildings, now. Near the village, is a farm, surrounded by hundreds of trees.
  30. >You notice a small, orange horse, towing a large wooden cart towards the barn. Nothing unusual there.
  31. >...Wait.
  32. >You can't be sure from this distance, but the horse seems to be wearing a hat of some sort. And, there is no farmer guiding it as it walks. You watch closely as it approaches the barn.
  33. >Upon reaching the barn, the horse pauses for a second, then taps on the large door with it's front hoof.
  34. >The door opens, and the horse pulls the cart inside.
  35. >...
  36.
  37. >You've seen trained animals before, but nothing quite like that.
  38. >You remember reading somewhere that horses were rather intelligent. For animals, anyway.
  39. >As you think about all the things dogs can be trained to do, teaching a horse simple actions begins to seem more reasonable.
  40. >And, you've seen pictures of donkeys wearing hats before.
  41. >Not too out of the ordinary, then.
  42.
  43. >Your attention snaps back to the village upon hearing a train's whistle. A small column of smoke begins to appear, and you see a train leaving the village, and heading along the tracks into the distant mountains.
  44. >Your eyes drift towards the top of the mountains, then back to the village.
  45. >...!
  46. >And right back to the mountains.
  47. >As large clouds begin to part, you see it.
  48. >Built into the mountains, is a magnificent castle. Composed of gleaming white stone, golden rooves, and easily standing over a thousand feet above ground level, it looks to have at least ten floors and many towers. There are even waterfalls pouring out of some levels.
  49. >You've seen castles before, but none were as impressive as this.
  50. >This gets you thinking.
  51. >Wherever you are, it isn't home. Or anywhere near home.
  52. >But for some reason, this doesn't alarm you as much as it probably should.
  53. >In fact, you feel at ease here.
  54. >The air is so fresh, and the water, so clean. Even the ground doesn't look dirty.
  55. >Feels good, man.
  56. >You walk down from the hill, and back onto the path.
  57.
  58. >You're almost out of the forest by now.
  59.
  60. >Judging by the sun, it's still early in the afternoon. In spite of the great distance you've walked, you feel only mildly exhausted. And, you should reach the village in the next quarter of an hour, so you'll be able to rest there for a while.
  61. >Your feet are starting to ache, though.
  62. >Soon enough, you'll have some idea of where you are. But, what you want to know even more is how you got here in the fir-
  63. >...!
  64. >*Snap*
  65.
  66. >That sound, again.
  67. >You'd heard it twice before, but now it was louder- and closer than ever.
  68. >And you were ready for it. You'd been keeping an eye and an ear on your surroundings all morning.
  69. >Not a moment too soon, you jump to the left. A brown... thing shoots past you, and crashes into the ground a few feet ahead.
  70. >It turns around.
  71. >Two glaring, yellow eyes lock with your own.
  72. >It's some kind of wolf creature... Made of wood.
  73. >You slowly step back, and take a hold of your shield.
  74. >You're damn lucky to have come across that.
  75. >The creature slowly starts moving. It's starting to circle around you.
  76. >You do the same, shield raised.
  77. >"Rrrrgguuuuuhh", it growls.
  78. >It lowers it's body slightly, readying a jump.
  79. >It'll go for your throat, most likely.
  80. >But you've got a plan.
  81. >You lower your shield, and begin to move backwards.
  82. >After hesitating for a moment, it leaps toward you, mouth agape.
  83. >Just as planned.
  84. >You smash your shield into it's face.
  85. >As the shield connects, the animal lets out an ear splitting shriek and flips over, landing on it's back.
  86. >Wasting no time, you raise your shield high and slam it back down upon the creature's head, full force.
  87. >"CRAAACK"
  88. >...
  89. >Silence.
