  1. >”Anonymous…”
  2. >That voice… it’s…
  3. >Julie!
  4. >You open your eyes and find yourself in a forest clearing. At the other side stands Julie, smiling sadly at you.
  5. “Julie! Oh thank God!” you stumble forward to hug her, any form of thinking overridden by the pure joy you are feeling.
  6. >”I’m sorry Anonymous.” She says, before fading away.
  7. “Wha… no, no! Don’t leave! Julie! JULIE!”
  8. >”ANONYMOUS!”
  9. >You are shaken awake by Applejack, who looks at you with genuine concern.
  10. >”You were bringin’ the barn down with your shoutin. You dreamt of her, didn’t ya?”
  11. “You mean… Julie’s not here? It was a dream?”
  12. >”I’m sorry Anon, but it was just a dream. Nothin more.”
  13. >You cover your eyes with your hands and cry.
  14. “Fuck… I thought she was here. I just… I just can’t imagine living without her. I’m sorry.”
  15. >Applejack wraps you in a hug. “Ya don’t have to apologise for worryin about your special somep0ny. I’d just be as worried as you are.”
  16. >You sniffle and wipe the tears from your cheeks, and Applejack sighs.
  17. “Ah would normally would get up a couple of hours from now, but as we’re awake, why don’t we get somethin’ to eat?”
  18. “Yeah, ok. Might as well get up.” You let out one last sniffle and haul yourself out of bed.
  19.
  20. >One apple themed breakfast later, and you’re feeling much better.
  21. “Damn Applejack, you make one mean breakfast.”
  22. >”Thank ya kindly. Ah use the same recipes as all the older generations of Apple’s did. >”Family tradition, and all that.”
  23. >She grabs her Stetson hat and motions to the door. “The train for Canterlot leaves quite early, so we best get goin now.”
  24. “Gotcha. If I don’t end up returning, be sure to say goodbye to Big Macintosh, Applebloom and Granny Smith.”
  25. >Applejack smiles. “That’s mighty thoughtful of ya Anon. I’ll be sure to tell them.”
  26. “Thanks. Lead the way to the station.”
  27.
  28. >As the pair of you arrive at the station, you are greeted by Twilight, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie and Rarity.
  29. >”Good morning Anonymous!” chimed Twilight.
  30. “Morning Twilight. Morning Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rai… wait a minute, where’s Rainbow Dash?”
  31. >Suddenly, something lands on your back and covers your eyes.
  32. >”Guess who!”
  33. “I guess Rainbow Dash.”
  34. >”The one and only!”
  35. >This mare…
  36. “You mind getting off my back?”
  37. >”Yes actually, I like it up here.”
  38. “I’m not lugging you around, Rainbow Dash.”
  39. >”Aw c’mon Anon, pleeeeeeease…”
  40. >God.
  41. >Dammit.
  42. “Fine, I’ll give you a piggyback.”
  43. >”You’re the best human in Equestria, Anon!”
  44. “I’m the only human, dummy.”
  45. >”Exactly!”
  46. >You sigh to yourself. If Rainbow Dash wasn’t adorable, then she would be infuriating.
  47. >”Anonymous!” shouted Applejack from the station platform. During your banter with Rainbow Dash, everyone else had boarded.
  48. “Coming!” you start walking towards the carriage, the blue appendage on your back giggling with every step.
  49. >You stoop to enter the carriage, making sure not to hit Rainbow Dash, and settle down on one of the couches. Rainbow Dash snuggles up to you, her head on your side.
  50. >Hnnnnngh.
  51. “So, Twilight, what’s this Celestia person like? Should I be worried?”
  52. >Twilight’s eyes brighten. “Celestia is the ruler of Equestria, and she taught me everything I know about magic. She’s the fairest pony I know, so you’ve got nothing to worry about. I’m sure she’ll be glad to help you on your way home.”
  53. “Good to hear that. The last thing I need to is to be mind probed and thrown in a cell.” You chuckle. No-one else does.
  54. >”Well… since we’re not going anyone for a few hours, why don’t you tell us a bit about yourself? I’ve never had a chance to study a human before.” Twilight’s eyes widen.
  55. “Well, if I’m not going anywhere… I come from a planet called Earth.”
  56. >Twilight levitates over a scroll and starts scribbling something down.
  57. “Earth looks a lot like this place, as it has one sun it orbits and one moon which orbits the earth.
  58. >Twilight looks up at you in confusion. “I’m sorry, could you repeat that?”
  59. “Earth orbits the sun and the moon orbits the Earth.”
  60. >”But… can’t be right!”
  61. >What.
  62. “What do you mean? Astrological bodies orbit larger astrological bodies due to the difference in mass and subsequent gravitational force.”
  63. >”But who on “Earth” is control of the sun and moon?”
  64. “What are you talking about? No-one controls them, they orbit due to gravity.”
  65. >Twilight presses her hooves against the side of her head. “I can’t even begin to imagine… here in Equestria, Celestia raises the sun each day and her sister, Luna, raises the moon each night. Are saying that on Earth, it’s different?”
  66. >This Celestia person controls the mother fucking sun?
  67. >Note to self: be polite as humanely possible. You don’t want to antagonize someone who can raise the frickin sun by herself.
  68. “Yeah, it’s different… let’s just drop it, no point arguing over the differences between my universe and yours.”
  69. >Twilight nods and scribbles notes down furiously. “Aside from you, how many other humans are there on Earth?”
  70. “About… 7 billion? Give or take a few hundred million.”
  71. >”You must be joking.”
  72. “I’m not. I don’t approve of lying.” Out of the corner of your eye you see Applejack give a slight nod of approval.
  73. >Twilight shakes her head. “7 billion… and you said Earth was a lot like Equestria? How in Celestia do you all manage?”
  74. >You and Rainbow Dash share a look.
  75. “We don’t. Billions of people go without food, water and shelter every day. Wars are fought left right and centre over the most arbitrary things. Crime is rife, and many people need to turn to it just to survive.
  76. >The 5 ponies give you a horrified look. Life here must be very different than life on Earth.
  77. “But that doesn’t mean good doesn’t occur. I myself have never fought in a war, and I try to treat others as best I can. There are those who give up their lives, sometimes literally, to save and help others. We have charities dedicated to feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and giving shelter to the homeless. That’s just the way the world is with free will. You have those who do good, and those who do bad, and you just gotta hope the good outclasses the bad.”
  78. >The carriage falls silent, Twilight and the other’s obviously disturbed by your account of Earth.
  79. >”Why would want to go back?” Rarity asks. “If that place is so horrid, why not stay here?”
  80. >You turn your gaze to the window.
  81. “I’ve got a wife waiting for me back home. I can’t leave her. I can’t. Besides, I don’t belong here. I’d rather be back home, with humans.”
  82. >Pinkie Pie chimes up. “So what’s your special somep0ny’s name?
  83. >Applejack stuffs her hoof in Pinkie Pie and gives her the eyes of death. “Not now.” She mouths.
  84. >The awkward silence returns yet again, and everyone in the carriage shifts uncomfortably.
  85. “Well, I should probably tell you more about myself. I’m 25 years old, and I work as a veterinarian.”
  86. >Fluttershy, who had been avoiding your gaze for the entire journey, perks up. “You work as a vet?”
  87. “Yeah. Why do you ask?”
  88. >She sits upright, speaking softly. “I’m in charge of the animals in P0nyville, and I take care of many of them.”
  89. “That’s nice. It’s good to meet someone who appreciates animals, I’ve seen far too many cases where an animal is neglected by it’s owners.”
  90. >”You get a lot of those cases…?”
  91. “Sadly, yes.”
  92. >Fluttershy’s eyes well up with tears.
  93. >Shitshitshitshit
  94. “But I nursed the animals back to health and found them all loving owners!”
  95. >”Really?” She looks at you with a wide smile on her face.
  96. “Yeah, really.”
  97. >Dodged a bullet there, Anon.
  98. “Pinkie Pie, I’d also like to thank you for the party. It was really nice of you; you didn’t have to do something like that.”
  99. >”Oh don’t be a silly billy, I throw a party for everyp0ny, even if they are a human! And I’ll definitely be throwing a welcome back to P0nyville party when we get back!”
  100. “I hope it doesn’t come down to that. I’m trying to get home, remember?”
  101. >”Oh of course Anonymoose, silly me!”
  102. “And Rarity, I’ll be sure to take your advice and get a new set of clothes.”
  103. >”That’d be best darling, you look absolutely horrid in those clothes. If only I had to make you a set! Think of the possibilities…”
  104. >You continue to make idle conversation for a few hours, occasionally answering a human-related question from Twilight and Rainbow Dash, until…
  105. >”We’re here!” Applejacks shouts, and you scoot over to the window.
  106. >Before you stood a city of immense grandeur, spires and towers reaching high above you.
  107. >As the train comes to a standstill, a pair of armour clad pegasi enter the carriage.
  108. >”The carriage is waiting outside the station.”
  109. >You all board the carriage and are driven through the bust streets, filled with ponies going about their daily lives. You quickly arrive at some sort of palace, obviously one of high importance due to the amount of guards stationed.
  110. >A unicorn with a shield as a cutie mark approaches you.
  111. >”Mr Anonymous?”
  112. “Yes, that’s me.”
  113. >”I am Shining Armour, and I shall be escorting you to… Twiley!”
  114. >He rushes past you and hugs Twilight tightly.
  115. “You two know each other?”
  116. >Twilight breaks off the hug and turns to you. “Shining Armour is my big brother and my best friend!”
  117. >Family. That’s nice.
  118. “Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you Mr Armour. If you are anything like your sister, then we will get on very well.”
  119. >He drops the formality. “Cheers dude, glad to see you’re getting on well with little Twiley here. Anyway, I gotta bring you up to Celly. Her orders were for me to show you the way and stuff.”
  120. “Not a problem. Lead on.”
  121.
  122. >As you follow Shining Armour, who was busy in conversation with Twilight, Applejack trots alongside you while Rainbow Dash resumed her place on your back.
  123. >”So, Anonymous, when you get back, what are you going to do?” Rainbow Dash asks, her front legs wrapped around your shoulders.
  124. “Go back to the way things were I guess. Stay as a vet, love Julie, get on with my life.”
  125. >”I don’t suppose you might wanna come back some day to see your pal Rainbow Dash?”
  126. “Considering that I don’t know how I got here anyway, I doubt that’ll happen.”
  127. >Rainbow Dash falls silent. She couldn’t miss you that badly, right? You had only known her for a day.”
  128. “Cheer up Rainbow Dash; at least you’ll be able to say that you met the only human ever in Equestria!”
  129. >”Yeah… I guess so…”
  130. >No cheering her up. Oh well.
  131. >You follow Shining Armour into a huge room. At the end of it, sitting upon a golden throne, is who you guess is Celestia. As you get closer, you notice she is in possession of both wings and a horn.
  132. >As you reach her you drop to one knee, showing respect to her.
  133. >”Rise, Anonymous.” Her voice is commanding and direct.
  134. >You stand upright and look her in the eye as she descends from the throne to your level.
  135. >Even given her abilities, you were not intimidated. At 6 feet tall, you still stood much taller than her.
  136. >”It is a pleasure to meet you, Anonymous. When Twilight wrote to me informing me of the situation, I almost dared not to believe it. Bu here stands a human, like the myths of old speak of.
  137. “The pleasure is mine, Princess Celestia.”
  138. >She nods, and continues.
  139. >”I had originally asked my most faithful student to bring you here so I could meet you in person, but I am correct in assuming that you wish for a way home?”
  140. “Indeed. My wife, Julie, is waiting for me back on Earth. She’s probably worried sick.”
  141. >Celestia winces and looks down at the floor.
  142. >This isn’t good.
  143. “Y-you can send me back, right?  Right?”
  144. >”I have the capacity to send you back, yes…”
  145. >…
  146. “So what’s the problem? Just cast the spell, and send me back!”
  147. >”It’s not that simple, Anonymous…”
  148. >Oh God, please don’t say that, please…
  149. >”I can send you back… but it may not be to your correct time period. Inter dimensional travel isn’t very precise, I’m afraid. I’m so sorry, so so sorry…”
  150. >No.
  151. >This can’t be happening, this isn’t happening!
  152. “So there’s a chance… I might not return to my life? To… to Julie?”
  153. >”Yes… there’s a very high chance.”
  154. >You let those words sink in for a moment.
  155. >Then wheel round and punch the marble pillar.
  156. “GOD”
  157. >punch
  158. “FUCKING
  159. >punch
  160. “DAMMIT!”
  161. >punch
  162. >You collapse against the pillar and slide down to the floor, sobbing, the pain in your hands diminutive compared to the anguish in your soul.
  163. >Why you? What did you do to deserve this? You hadn’t hurt anyone. Why!
  164. >”Anon… are y’okay?”
  165. >You look up and see Applejack in front of you, her eyes filled with tears as well. >Everyone was upset, it seemed. Even Celestia.
  166. “No Applejack, I’m not okay. I’ll never see Julie again. I didn’t even get to say goodbye to her. I don’t even have anything to remember her by!” You continue sobbing as you sit there. “What did I do to deserve this? I never did anything wrong. Why me? WHY ME!”
  167. >”Anonymous.”
  168. >Celestia walks over to you, her eyes red. “Do you need a hug?” A simple gesture, but one you appreciated.
  169. >You pull yourself up and throw your arms around her, crying softly into her flowing mane.
  170. >After what seemed like hours, you stop crying, and pull yourself off her.
  171. >”No-one deserves to have their loved ones taken away from them. I’ve experienced it myself. If you ever need someone to talk to, you’re always welcome in Canterlot.”
  172. “Th-th-thanks Celestia. I’m just worried f-for Julie. I don’t want anything t-to happen to her.”
  173. >”That is admirable of you, Anonymous. Even in your sadness, you think out for others.”
  174. “So what now? If I can’t go home, what do I do?”
  175. >”Well, I’d be more than glad t’have ya around the farm.” Applejack says.
  176. >You turn to Celestia. ”I can also grant you an allowance of money to help you set up your new life. I care about all my subjects, be them p0ny or not, and I shall not exclude you. I shall also recognise you as a citizen of Equestria, as welcome here as anyp0ny else.”
  177. “Thank you Celestia. Even f you can’t send me home… I appreciate what you’re doing for me.”
  178. >”It is the least I can do. I am still sorry for you.” She nuzzles your hand, and you feel slightly better.
  179. “Well, no point staying here I guess… it’s a new life, and I might as well embrace it.”
  180. >”I shall arrange for a train to P0nyville to be ready. Goodbye Anonymous.”
  181. “Goodbye Celestia.”
  182.
  183. >As you lay in the guest room of Sweet Apple Acres, staring up at the ceiling, you recalled your earlier words.
  184. >I might as well embrace it.
  185. >You would be kidding yourself if you thought it was going to be that easy.
  186. >You weren’t going to forget Julie.
  187. >You memories of her would become lost in nightmares for a long time.
  188. >Would you be strong enough to get through it?
  189. >You didn’t know.
  190. >Sleep did not come easy that night.
