  1. >You're sitting up in bed
  2. >The sun isn't phasing you this morning
  3. >Though you prefer it to waking up screaming
  4. >Seriously man, that was some fucked up shit
  5. >You can barely remember anything besides running, though. Lots of running
  6. >Holding your head in your hands, you try to remember anything else
  7. >Y'know, besides the running
  8. >...Nope, nothing
  9. "Fuck it...better to forget and move on."
  10. >You look to your side and notice Pinkie's gone
  11. >And she was able to leave without you noticing
  12. >Well, she -is- Pinkie Pie
  13. >You shrug and get up, going through the normal morning routine
  14. >After exiting the shower, you look out the window above your desk
  15. >It's a bright, sunny day. Nearly every day is
  16. >Dash really knows how to clear the skies
  17. >You look to your bed and notice a note sticking out from underneath of the blanket
  18. >You pick it up and read it
  19. >"Anon,
  20. >Had to go to the bakery
  21. >Gotta work all day
  22. >Come by tonight
  23. > XOXO -Pinkie Pie"
  24. >You place the note in your desk, not wanting to throw it away for some reason
  25.
  26. >You walk downstairs. Spike's still knocked out on the couch
  27. >The blanket is on the ground and he's cuddling with the pillow
  28. >You tiptoe past him into the kitchen
  29. >You look in the fridge...nope, nothing quick and easy
  30. >The cupboards? You find a box of pancake mix. Perfect
  31. >You may not be the best cook, but pancakes are almost impossible for you to fuck up
  32. >Unless you count that one time Applejack knocked on your door...except for the knocking part
  33. >"Bucked down" seems more appropriate
  34. >Then again, the pancakes were the least of your worries at that moment
  35. >You shake away the bad memory and start on the pancakes
  36. >Two big stacks, topped off with berries, creme and butter
  37. >Aww yeah, pancakes are the shit
  38. >The smell apparently wakes up Spike, as he walks through the kitchen archway as soon as you set the plates on the table and sit down
  39. >His eyes go wide for a moment, then he quickly zips to the chair opposite you, grabbing a fork and digging in
  40. >You smile
  41. "Y'know, a 'thanks, Anon' would be nice."
  42. >"Fankf Amom"
  43. >He then continues to munch on his stack
  44. >You laugh and dig in to yours
  45. >You watch Spike as he destroys the pancakes, steadily munching on your own
  46. >It reminds you
  47. >His birthday is in a few days
  48. >You oughta do something nice for the little guy
  49. >Something different than getting him a half a dozen sapphire cupcakes. You've been doing that every year since the Cakes made them
  50. >No, something drastic
  51. >Something he'll love
  52. >Love
  53. >That's fucking it
  54.
  55. "So Spike."
  56. >"Hmm?" He looks up at you, finishing the last of his pancakes
  57. "This thing you have for Applebloom..."
  58. >He nearly chokes on his mouthful of pancake
  59. >Paaaaancake
  60. >One coughing fit later, "What about it?" He says with an uninterested tone.
  61. "What would you say to me...sorta...helping you out a bit?"
  62. >It's silent for a few seconds
  63. >You expect him to reject your help
  64. >He breaks the silence
  65. >"You...you'd do that?"
  66. "Of course I would! I've got your back, no matter what. Know what I me-"
  67. >You're interrupted as Spike jumps from his chair across the table and latches onto your left arm in a death-hug
  68. >"Thanks, Anon."
  69. "Hey, no prob. You're my bro. You need help, you just say the word and I'm there. You're Woody, and I'm your Buzz."
  70. >Spike squeezes harder
  71. "Now, let go before my arm falls off, wouldja?"
  72. >You both laugh
  73.
  74. >"So how're we gonna do this?" Spike asks, sitting on your shoulder as you walk through town
  75. "Well, let's start by assessing the situation."
  76. >"Huh?"
  77. "Seeing where we're at."
  78. >"We're in the middle of Ponyville."
  79. "No, I me- Oh cut it out."
  80. >He chuckles
  81. "Ha Ha, very funny." You say with a smile. "Alright, so what's today?"
  82. >"Thursday"
  83. "Okay, so Applebloom's probably in school right now. That gives us some time to think this through."
  84. >"Wha? You mean I have to do it already?!"
  85. "Well duh." You say flatly. "Don't worry, it'll be easy."
  86. >"Easy for you to say..."
  87. "Nah, it'll go smoothly. Just you watch."
  88. >"And what am I supposed to say?"
  89. "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it."
  90. >"Okay...so what're we supposed to do until she gets out of school?"
  91. "Jeez, you sure ask a lot of questions."
  92. >"Anon..."
  93. "Kidding, kidding. Well, I guess we can go to the library. See what Twilight's up to. Maybe even let her in on this little plan. Whaddya say?"
  94. >"Alright, but I don't want Twilight to know anything just yet."
  95. "Fair enough."
  96.
  97. >As soon as you enter the library you're greeted by...what a surprise. Piles of books
  98. >Lines of them are floating in the air surrounded by a purple aura; Twilight with her back turned to the door
  99. >Seems she's doing her bi-monthly re-shelving
  100. "Hey, Twi."
  101. >She turns around and smiles
  102. >"Spike, Anon, good to see you."
  103. "Likewise"
  104. >"Do you need me for anything? As you can see I'm sort of busy."
  105. >"Nah, you're okay. We're just here to kill some time."
  106. >"Oh, alright. There's fresh tea if you would like some."
  107. "Cool, thanks."
  108. >You and Spike walk to the kitchen and pour some tea, chatting to pass the time
  109.
  110. >You finish your third cup and set it on the table
  111. "Alright, I think it's about time."
  112. >Spike looks up to you
  113. >"How can you tell?"
  114. "The sun was almost at the highest point in the sky when we got here. I'm guessing it's past noon by now, so Applebloom should be getting out of class."
  115. >"Are you sure I gotta do it today?"
  116. "It's either that, or tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then we're taking a trip to Sweet Apple Acres on Saturday."
  117. >"You're not letting this go easily, are you?"
  118. "Not a chance."
  119. >"Alright, then I guess I'm all in."
  120. "Who said you had a choice?"
  121. >Spike smiles
  122. >He gets on the table and walks across, jumping on your shoulder
  123. "You ever consider I get tired of carrying you?"
  124. >"Nope."
  125. >You both laugh as you walk out of the library
  126.
  127. >You walk up to the school-house
  128. >Fillies and colts are exiting through the door, Cheerilee following the last one out
  129. >She stands at the door
  130. >You scan the area, spotting Applebloom and the rest of the CMC standing near the swing-set
  131. "Alright, they haven't seen us yet." You, standing behind a tree, take Spike off your shoulder and set him on the ground
  132. >"W-w-What am I supposed to do?"
  133. "Just go up to her and ask her to be your special somep0ny."
  134. >"In front of Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle?"
  135. "No, no. Just say it's private."
  136. >"Okay, then what?"
  137. "Tell her how you feel. Tell her you like her. Just let your heart do the talking."
  138. >"Anon, are you sure about this?"
  139. "Don't worry, man. Remember, the only negative is if she says no. And I doubt that's happening."
  140. >This seems to bolster Spike's courage
  141. >He takes a few deep breaths
  142. >"Alright..-gulp-...I'm ready."
  143. "Okay. You're on your own from here on out, but don't forget what I told you. I'll be at Sugarcube Corner, alright? Come by when you're done so you can give me the good news."
  144. >You smile and Spike returns the gesture
  145. >Spike walks out from behind the tree and heads to the swing-set
  146. "Go get 'em, tiger."
  147.
  148. >You're sitting at Sugarcube Corner, Pinkie Pie filling you in on every little detail of her day while you both sip from a carrot smoothie; your treat
  149. >You can't help but be entertained when Pinkie tells a story
  150. >Her infatuations with even the smallest things makes everything seem interesting
  151. >You sometimes wish you could have her outlook on life
  152. >She's just finishing her tale of how Pumpkin Cake had another magic surge today, zipping Pinkie's mouth shut when she tried to lecture her on why not to chew on things
  153. >Pinkie, being Pinkie, just unzipped her mouth and continued the lecture
  154. >It got Pumpkin to fall asleep, at least
  155. >You hear the bell from the swinging doors
  156. >Spike walks in and sits next to you
  157. "Hey, bro! How'd it go?"
  158. >He looks up to you with a blank look; it's as if he's in disbelief
  159. >You swear you can see the edges of his mouth perk up slightly
  160. >Spike then jumps on the table
  161. "SHE SAID YES, SHE SAID YES, SHE SAID YES!!!"
  162. >You jump up from your seat
  163. >You're positively fucking ecstatic
  164. >You can't help but jump for joy as Spike does the same on the table
  165. >Pinkie joins in
  166. >"What are we so happy about?" She says, jumping in time with you on her hind hooves, her front hooves in the air
  167. >You stop and hold her hooves, looking her dead in the eye with the biggest smile you can muster
  168. "Spike just got himself a special somep0ny!"
  169. >Pinkie gasps
  170. >"OmigoshwehavetothrowapartyforthisI'msoexcitedareyouexcitedifnotIamforbothofuswho'stheluckymareSpikehu-"
  171. >You silence her with a kiss
  172. >She melts into your embrace and jumps into your arms, still kissing you
  173. >As soon as she jumps in your arms, the image of a dark landscape invades your mind
  174. >Pinkie disappearing in the shadow
  175. >You break the kiss
  176. >"Anon?...You okay?" Pinkie asks
  177. >You shake your head, getting rid of the image. You're not going to let this damper your mood. You're way too happy
  178. "I'm better than okay." You smile
  179. >"Great, because now we need to party!"
  180. "How about we hold off on the party for a while, Pinkie? Let's just relax at my place tonight."
  181. >"Okie Dokie Lokie!"
  182.
  183. >You walk Spike to the library as Pinkie heads to your house
  184. >You're two thirds of the way there when Spike speaks up
  185. >"Hey, Anon?"
  186. "Yeah?"
  187. >"Thanks...for everything. You-...you're my best friend, you know that?"
  188. >This warms your heart
  189. >You pick up the dragon in a hug
  190. "No problem, little bro."
  191.
  192. >You reach the library
  193. >You then kneel down, Spike relinquishing his spot on your shoulder
  194. >You both say your goodnights, then depart with a brofist
  195. >You have a spring in your step on the way to your home
  196. >When you arrive, you notice Pinkie fast asleep on the couch
  197. >You close the door behind you quietly and lock it. Then you carefully pick up the pink mare and carry her upstairs
  198. >You place her on the opposite side of the bed, get undressed, and get under the blankets
  199. >Holding Pinkie Pie, she nudges closer to you
  200. >You reflect on the day's events before drifting off into a peaceful sleep; the nightmare from the night before being the last thing on your mind...
