>You are running. >As fast as your legs can carry you. >You need to get home. >It's almost time. >You didn't stop all day to eat a bite. >When you get tired, you walk. >You kept moving no matter what. >You cannot afford to waste a single minute. >Your heart is breaking because she's there alone. >She is waiting for you. >You finally make it to the hospital. >It was just past midnight. >The nurse pointed you to her room. >You enter and run to her side. >She smiled as you held her hoof. >It was time. >She was relieved now that you were there. >She could not do this without the one she loves, and always will. >There were no complications. >You are overcome with tears of joy upon hearing your child's first cry. >You awoke to the rooster's morning crow. -- >You groan as you weakly open your eyes. >Your back is killing you. >You need a bigger bed. >Like... soon. >And that damned rooster... >After your late night last night, >It is WAY to early for this... >You put the pillow over your face to block the rays of sunlight filtering in through the window. >You begin to lull yourself back to sleep. >You throw the pillow off your face and onto the floor. >You eyes are wide open. >You forgot. >You promised to walk the Cutie Mark Crusaders to school this morning. >Crap. >But you can't get out of bed. >There's a little yellow pegasus lying on top of you. >She's curled into a relaxed fetal position. >Her head is resting on your chest. >Her breathing matches the rise and fall of your own chest. >She looks so peaceful. >You don't want to disturb her, but you need to go. -- "Fluttershy," you whisper. "Fluttershy." >You put your hand on her shoulder and rock her around a little. >She's sound asleep. >Your gonna have to ninja your way out of this. >You slowly begin to slide to the edge of the bed. >You rotate your body so she begins to slide off you. >You hold her head as to not have it fall too hard on the bed, waking her up. >It's been 5 minutes, but you managed to slide out from under her without waking her up. >You gently pick her up and scoot her to the head of the bed. >You put the pillow under her head and tuck her in. >Now you need to get dressed. >You put on some clean clothes and head to the kitchen. >You mimic your actions from the morning prior and make her a breakfast. >But this time you whip up a fruit salad with a little whipped cream. >A glass of orange juice accompanies her meal. >You carry it upstairs and place it on the end table next to the bed. >You scribble down a quick note and leave it with her breakfast. >There's no time to shave this morning. >You can take a bath later. >But you are running very late and you need to go. >You quietly shut the front door and bolt towards Sweet Apple Acres. -- >Sweet Apple Acres is about a mile and a half from home if you take the path through the fields seperating the two. >Both your house and Sweet Apple Acres were a mile out of Ponyville. >So not only do you have to get to Sweet Apple Acres to pick up Applebloom, you had to walk back to town to get the other two. >At this speed, you should be at Sweet Apple Acres in 10 minutes. >You're trying to have a little fun as you run. >Your singing motivational music in your head as you run. >You are also vaulting over fences and fallen trees as if you were in track doing the hurdles. >Damn these jeans are constricting. >But you have ran with them before. >You know how to move with them on. >Your agility is only slightly hindered as you fly through these open fields. >The apple orchard that is quickly moving close tells you that you are almost there. >You follow the road until you find their house. >You stop just outside the gate to catch your breath. >After a minute you begin walking up to the porch. >As you approach you see a massive red pony walk out of the barn. >He wasn't as tall as you, but he was taller than most other ponies. >He stood as high as about the middle of your stomach. >And boy was he muscular. >He saw you approaching and quickly took an aggressive stance. >Oh crap... -- >You stopped in your tracks and stared at him. >He gave you an intimidating look, but he didn't approach you. "Is Applebloom home?" >"Eeyup." "May I please speak to her?" >"Nnnope." >Pony of few words. >You could really grow to like this pony if you can manage to get on his good side. "Do you know who I am?" >"Eeyup." "Did Applejack tell you about me?" >"Eeyup." >Well that explains everything. >You relax yourself a bit. >He stands like a statue, still in his stance. >You raise your hands in front of you in a defensive manner. "Regardless of what she may have told you, I'm not here to hurt anypony. I am only here to walk Applebloom to school." >He raises an eyebrow. >Suddenly Applebloom comes flying out the front door of the house. >"Anonymous!" >She flies past the red pony and jumps into your arms. >You catch her and begin to mess her mane. >"Hey there Mr. Anonymous! Are we ready ta git to school?" "You bet ya, you little ball of energy!" -- >You looked up to see the red pony relax. >He sees now that you aren't as bad as what he thought. >If Applebloom has taken such a fond liking to you, there must be something good in there. >But would Applejack lie? >She can be a stubborn pony, so she probably just refuses to admit she was wrong. >He smiles and pops a wheat sprig into his mouth. >You put Applebloom down and turn around towards Ponyville. >She waves back to the red pony. >"Goodbye Big Mac! Ah'll see ya later!" >He waves back to her. >"Eeyup." >Applebloom is walking with a spring in her step. >She sure is happy about being with you. "So who was that big red pony back there?" >"That's mah big brother, Big Macintosh!" >Big is right. "Is he always so tough-looking towards new ponies?" >"Nah. He's the kindest, most gentle pony you'll ever meet!" >So he's a softy at heart. >That's cool. "He doesn't say much does he?" >"Nah. But that doesn't mean he doesn't got no personality!" >This is true. >You should get to know him more later. -- >About halfway to Ponyville, Applebloom started to notice you were dragging a little bit. >"Are you okay Mr. Anonymous?" "Yeah, I'm fine Applebloom. I'm just really tired." >"How come?" "I had a really late night last night." >"What were you doing?" "Uh... Don't worry about it, okay?" >"But I wanna-" "Applebloom, please." >She was disgruntled because you refused to tell her. >She is definitely not old enough and it wasn't your place to tell somepony elses child about sex. >Instead you pick her up and place her on your head. >Her forgiveness comes instantly as she rides you all the way to Ponyville. >You come upon the Carousel Boutique and knock on the door. >The door flies open almost instantly and you are attacked by two more fillies. >After a short wrestling match, all three of them have you pinned on your back. "This isn't fair. Three versus one is way to much for me." >They grin triumphantly. >"Maybe our special talent is human wranglin'!" shouted Applebloom. >"YEAH!" the other two shouted. "Heh heh, maybe. You're awfully good at it." >They hop off you as you go to stand. >Scootaloo takes this chance to jump on your head before you're out of reach. >"Dibs!" she calls. >"Aww..." pout the other two. >They really love being on your head, don't they? >Just to be fair, you sweep the other two fillies in your arms and cradle them. >You hug them to your chest, holding them just under their forelegs. >Their legs dangle down below. "Alrighty then. Shall we go?" -- >When you reach the school, you let the fillies in your arms go. >You crouch so Scootaloo can safely jump down off you. "I'll be back this afternoon to pick you girls up, okay?" >"Wait, Mr. Anonymous! Don't ya wanna come meet our teacher?" Applebloom asked. >All three of them gave you those big puppy eyes. >It would be some form of crime to say no to that. >Besides, it's not gonna kill you. "Sure, why not?" >They cheered as Applebloom and Sweetied Belle grabbed your hands to pull you and Scootaloo pushed you from behind. >You walk up to the school house. >An older pony is standing by the door. >Her coat is a sort of reddish-pink. >She is greeting the schoolchildren as they pass to enter the schoolhouse. >She looks up to you and smiles. >"Why hello there, Mr. Anonymous! It's a pleasure to finally meet you!" >She extends her hoof to you. >You take it in you hand. "Charmed. How do you know my name?" >"Oh, you've been making quite a commotion around town recently. The fillies especially love you. They absolutely love the music you play." >You are honored. >Ponies really like you that much? >Or really, your music? >"The fillies wanted me to ask you something." "Sure." >"Would you put on a little concert for them sometime? I can pay you for your time." >As much as you love making ponies happy with your music, this was a little much. >You were not out to get famous, or make money. >You do not want to live the life of a busy celebrity. >Especially since you and Fluttershy were just now starting to become a family. >And you just can't leave Fluttershy alone like that. -- "I'm sorry Miss... uh..." >"Cheerilee." "Yes, Miss Cheerilee. I'm afraid I'm not out to achieve a celebrity status. While I would enjoy playing for the children, I do not want to do it for money or notoriety." >She nods her head in understanding. "However, I would gladly play for them some other time, as I do not have my guitar with me today." >The three fillies at your feet perked up upon hearing this. >Cheerilee smiled. >"Thank you Mr. Anonymous. Would you like to discuss this at a later time then?" "That would be fine. And please," >You extend your hand once again. "Just call me Anon." >You give her a smile. >She shakes your hand and nods. "Come now, little ones. It's time to start class." >"Okay Miss Cheerilee!" >They give your legs a quick hug before they run off. >"Bye Mr. Anonymous!" >Cheerilee follows after them. >"Bye Anon. It was nice meeting you." "You too, ma'am." >You walk away as they enter the schoolhouse. -- >Your first commitment of the day was now complete. >You could go back home and sleep now. >But after meeting Big Mac today, it shows you that Applejack can have a huge influence over the ponies she's around. >She isn't lying to them, but she only knows half the story. >Twilight made sure of that. >You need to talk to her and straighten this mess out. >As you're walking through town, you are suddenly hit by a bolt of electricity in the left shoulder. >The hit causes you to flinch, but it doesn't hurt. "What the hell!" >You turn around to see Twilight chasing what looks like a little colorful gumball with wings. >It flies up to you and hides underneath your shirt. >It pokes it's eyes up through the collar of your shirt and stares at you. "Heh... cute." >"Anonymous!" >Twilight stopped and looked at you, and the little creature in your shirt. >"Ah, you caught it! Very good! I've been trying to stun that thing for a while now." "Yeah I see that... I think you missed." >You rub your shoulder. "You're not using this as an excuse to attack me are you?" >"No! Never!" >Her face grew red. "I'm kidding Twilight." >"Oh... I'm sorry. But actually, I did want to talk to you about something." >You pull the creature out from you shirt and hold it so it won't get away again. >"But first I need to take care of this parasprite." >Okay, the name just threw you off. >You don't know what this thing is, but the name alone suggests something other than cute and cuddley. -- "Take it away." >You hold your hands out. >Twilight gives it a little shock. >The little creature screeches like a rabbit before it falls to the ground. "Wow... That was pretty morbid actually." >"It's a pest. If left unchecked, they can reproduce very quickly, and a devour all the food we have." "Like locusts." >"What?" "Nothing. So what was it you wanted to talk to me about?" >Twilight looked at you with saddened eyes. >"I just want to say... I'm sorry." >Victory. "For what?" >"For calling you all those things. For accusing you of some sinister plot. And for turning the town against you." "The thing with the town was just mass hysteria. I blame nopony for that. And as for your apology," >You give her a hug around the neck. "I accept." >"Really?! Just like that? I thought you would hate me?" "What? Of course not! I told you yesterday, I want to be your friend, but I cannot do that if you don't get over your false beliefs of me." >She just stared at the ground. "Did you? Did you finally accept that you were wrong?" >"Yes..." she whispers. "Then I whole-heartedly accept your apology. Now I ask if you would accept my friendship." >You extend your hand out to her. >She looks up at you, then down to your hand. >She extends her hoof to meet you. >"I accept." -- "Now there is one problem I want you to help me with." >"What is it?" "Applejack." >"Oh..." "I know you were the one to convince her that I was some creature to be reviled. Who else would be better to help me convince her otherwise?" >"I'm sorry... But yes, I will help you with Applejack." "Perfect. I was actually on my way to try to talk to her now. Care to join me?" >"Well, now that the parasprite issue has been dealt with, I don't have anything else planned for the day. So, yes, I will accompany you to speak to Applejack." "Very well." >As you walk, you can feel Twilight's stare. "Is there something wrong?" >"What? Oh, no. Just... I was just wondering..." "What am I?" >Twilight bowed her head. >"I'm sorry." "No, it's quite alright. I knew you've been wanting to learn about me for some time now. I guess it had to come up sooner or later." >Twilight stayed silent. >You hope you didn't just make her ashamed of her scholarly ways. "If you have questions, I will try to answer to the best of my ability." >Twilight was gleaming with joy. >"Excellent! First question, where did you come from?" "Earth." >"What's it like?" "Pretty much the same as Equestria, but WAY less colorful." >"Like grey?" "Not really. I mean that the bright and vibrant colors here aren't seen very much except in places humans haven't comepletely over run. Like a field of flowers for example." >From the excited look on her face, you have a feeling this might last a while. >At least it'll make the walk to Sweet Apple Acres go by a little faster having someone to talk to. -- >"So do all humans look like you?" "Not really. There are different races, kind of like how you have earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasi. Everyone is different. In appearance and personality. But at heart, we are generally all the same." >"How is that?" "Everyone wants to belong. They want to know they are wanted. Some will do anything to find acceptance. And for those who can't... Lets just say that sometimes they do some very bad things." >"That... That's just terrible." "Yeah, well... When a child is cast away, they lose hope and they tend to act out in ways that can hurt others... or themselves." >Twilight was silent. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for this to get so dark. Please don't think all humans are that dark." >"That's okay. I know they all aren't. There is you, after all." >You smiled. "Do you have anything else?" >"Yeah. But it's about what we talked about earlier." "I'm listening." >"You said ponies were just like humans, right?" "Correct." >"You talked about the ponies' past. What is it like for humans?" "Well, we have the same problems the ponies had all those years ago. The difference between us is that you ponies have found a permanent peace among each other. Humans do want peace, yes, but we haven't been able to acquire it amongst ourselves yet. We are always trying to better ourselves and the world around us. We are just doing it in all the wrong ways." -- >Twilight was silent again. >You are trying not to make humanity something to be reviled, but it's hard not to concentrate on the bad stuff. "Well I don't seem to be giving you a very good picture of our world. Perhaps we should drop the subject. Do yo uhave anything for me?" >"Yes! I want to know what spell you are using to block all my magic from affecting you." "Spell? What are you talking about?" >"The ward you are using to block my spells. I remember trying to hit you with some stun spells from before, but you brushed them off. Even my most powerful. And you did it again when I missed the parasprite and hit you." >She thinks you are using a spell to negate her magic? >And she said she was using her most powerful magic against you, and still nothing? >It's not like you couldn't feel it. >Everytime she hit you, it felt like a static shock to you. "Uh... Twilight? I don't know what to tell you, but I'm not using any magic." >"What? That's impossible! You have to be using something! Nopony can just brush off spells like that without feeling something." "Humans can't even perform magic. Magic doesn't exist where we come from." >Twilight couldn't believe it. >Her whole life has been about magic and it was really hard to believe there was a place where it didn't exist. -- >"But if you're not using magic, then why can't my spells affect you?" "I don't know. You're the magic expert. You tell me." >Twilight thought about this for a minute. >"You're not part dragon are you?" >You get a laugh out of this. "No I'm not. I can assure you. Why?" >"Because dragons have a higher resistance to magic the older they get. They can still feel it, but the effects are greatly reduced when used on them." "Are you implying I'm immune to magic?" >"No. Not immune, but highly resistant. A resistance equaled only by an elder dragon." "How did you come up with this?" >"Because the stun spell I used on you would've crippled a young adult dragon, much less actually stun it. If you can ignore that like it was nothing, you must be very highly resistant." >Interesting. >"I would love to study it more. If you wouldn't mind that is." "You're not gonna start drawing blood samples are you?" >"No! Er... of course not. I just want to test a variety of spells on you and see if you're resistant to most, if not all of them." "I really don't want to be your test subject. But as long as it doesn't go too far, I suppose I can offer you my help." >Twilight started getting very excited from the thought of all the new things she could learn. >"This is going to make a wonderful letter to the princess." "Say what now?" >"Oh, nothing. Just thinking out loud." "Heh, I know that feeling." >You share in a small laugh as you come upon the gates of Sweet Apple Acres. >Wow that really was fast. >You hadn't even noticed you were coming upon the outter orchards. >Now to find Applejack. -- "Any idea where we can find her?" >"She will probably be out bucking apples. We just need to find out which part of the orchard she's in." "Sounds good. And I know just the pony to help." >Twilight follows you as you walk over to the barn. >You knock on the door and walk in. >Sure enough, Big Mac was in the barn. >He pressing some apples into a few kegs of juice. >From the spicy smell, it was more like cider. >He looked up and smiled when he saw you and Twilight. "Good morning, Big Mac." >"Eeyup." >Pony of few words. "We were wondering if you knew where Applejack was." >"Eeyup." "Care to show us?" >You followed Big Mac out of the barn. >He turned and pointed in the direction of Applejack. >A loud thud and the sound of apples falling to the ground can be heard in the distance. >You give a nod to Big Mac. "Thank you very much." >"Eeyup." >He returned to his business inside the barn. >You and Twilight started off in the direction Big Mac pointed you. -- >You followed the sound of hooves meeting trees. >You were getting close as it was getting louder. >When you finally found her, you didn't say anything. >You decided to watch her work for a minute or two. >Applejack had placed several baskets underneath the apple trees. >In one swift kick, every apple in the tree came falling down and into the baskets. >Not a single apple missed. >Now THAT was very impressive. >Twilight had run out to greet her friend. >"Hey Applejack!" >Applejack, recognizing the voice of her friend, returned the greeting. >"Hey there, Twilight. How ya'll doin' to-" >She had turned around and saw you walking up behind Twilight. >Applejack dove for Twilight and pushed her out of the way. >"Look out, Twilight! Anonymous is followin' ya!" >She took an agressive stance towards you, standing between you and Twilight. >"What do ya'll want with Twi'!" "You do know that Twilight followed me here, right?" >Applejack didn't budge. >"Don't ya try lyin' ta me! Ah can tell when ponies are lyin'!" "Then you should know that I'm speaking the truth." >Applejack still stood firm. >"Well what are ya'll doin' here anyways?" "I'm here to make amends and find out why you don't trust me. Twilight is here to try to help." -- >Applejack looked over to her friend, who was back on her hooves. >"YOU'RE helping HIM? After what he did? Don't tell me he's corrupted ya'll too?" >"It's not like that Applejack," Twilight shook her head. "We were wrong about him." >"How in tarnation are we wrong about him? He turned half of our friends against us and turned Fluttershy into a brute!" >You chuckle at the memory of Fluttershy telling you she hit Rainbow Dash for calling you a monster. >"And just what are you laughin' at buddy?" Applejack glared at you. "Do you know why your friends are split ove me?" >"Because you messed with their minds and changed their personalities!" >You look past Applejack and at Twilight. "Did you tell her this or is this her own assumption?" >"I... sort of told her that one. But that was before-" >You raise your hand to silence her. "Do I need to go over this with you too, Applejack?" >"What in tarnation are ya'll talkin' about?" >Very well. >You crouch down so you are eye-level with Applejack. "You see, Applejack, your friends are split because they know the truth. They took the time to learn who I am. And they defend me from the wrongful accusations you, Twilight, and Rainbow Dash have made towards me." >"But Fluttershy punched Rainbow!" "That was a loss of self-control. Let me ask you something Applejack. Have you ever been in love?" >Applejack lost her bearing and broke eye contact with you. >You didn't press into it. "Fluttershy and I... are lovers." >Applejack and Twilight both stared at you, but Applejack's jaw had dropped. -- >Applejack was speechless. "Fluttershy was only defending me, and was tired of everypony calling me a monster. The same goes for Rarity and Pinkie Pie, except they held their composure more than Fluttershy. However, Fluttershy was very stressed with my leaving. It was really only a matter of time she would be pushed over the edge. And you three confronting her like you did certainly didn't help." >Both Applejack and Twilight looked ashamed of themselves. >Applejack finally spoke up. >"S-so, she was doing it out of... love?" >You nod your head. >You look her straight in the eye. "Would I lie to you?" >"Ah'm not so sure..." "What could I possibly gain by deceiving everypony like that?" >You look at Twilight and give her a little smile, remembering her world domination theory. "Do you really want to keep spreading lies about me to other ponies?" >Applejack went silent once again. >"It's true Applejack," spoke Twilight. "You only know what I have told you. And what I told you was wrong in every way. The more ponies you tell about what I have told you, the more lies you spread." >"B-but ah ain't lyin'. I can't lie. I'm only saying what ah heard from you." "It's spreading false rumors about others, Applejack. Lying. Even if you don't know it." >This seemed to physically kill Applejack. >Applejack can't lie. >It was against her nature as an honest pony. >If she had been spreading lies about other ponies, it was only because she thought it was truth. >But she was wrong. -- >Applejack broke down. >Twilight was on the edge, but a few tears still left her eyes. >It was her fault Applejack was this way. >You know it wasn't anypony's fault. >And you know that they weren't doing this because they were intentionally trying to hurt you. >After listening to her sobs for a few minutes, you stand. >Twilight looks at you, but Applejack keeps staring at the ground. >You motion for Twilight to come to you. >She does so, and stands beside you, facing the weeping Applejack. "You don't have to apologize Applejack. I know it wasn't your fault. It was nopony's fault. But I want you to know, that I forgive you." >Her sobs cease, but she still looks at the ground. >You forgive her? >Just like that? >You don't hate her for all the nasty things she's said about you? "I also want to ask for your friendship, and that we can put this business far behind us. For us, for all your friends, and for Fluttershy." >You turn to walk away, and Twilight follows. >After you get a few yards away, Applejack calls out. >"Hey Anon! Twilight!" >You both turn around as she kicks two apples your way. >They fly into your chest and you catch them both. >"I accept your friendship!" >You smile, and Twilight is overcome with joy. "But do you apologize and admit you were wrong?" >"Don't push it, Anon." >She smiles at you and you let out a small laugh. -- >You leave with Twilight as Applejack goes back to work. >Two down, one to go. >"That was incredible Anon!" cheered Twilight. "What do you mean?" >"I see how you're doing this." "What am I doing?" >"You are using our personalities against us to argue for your friendship!" "I don't know what you mean." >"You argued logic and reasoning against me to prove you're a good pony, because I'm a scholar pony and love knowledge. And now, you just argued about spreading lies and being dishonest to Applejack, who is an honest pony at heart." >That was a very good deduction actually. >You hadn't even thought about it. >It's just how they acted that you came up with those ideas to use as arguements. >So if you really argued their personalities against them, and won, maybe it would work for Rainbow Dash as well. >You and Twilight leave Sweet Apple Acres. >You are tossing your apple in the air and catching it over and over. >"Anon, why don't you just eat your apple instead of playing with it?" >Twilight had eaten hers already. "Oh, I don't eat and walk. My code of ethics." >"What?" "It's from my military days. We were held to a higher standard than everyone else. Anything that might give us a bad image, we tried to avoid doing. The good ones anyways." >"Like eating and walking?" -- "Precisely. You need to sit down, eat, and then carry on. There are also rules for our clothes, shave, and haircut. I don't have any clothes in good condition, so that's out of the question. I try to shave everyday because facial hair is nasty to us." >You feel the top of your head. "And I really need a haircut. It's getting too long." >"You don't like long hair?" "Not really. It's one of my favorite things about being military because I love short haircuts." >Your head turns toward the ground. "Well, I was anyways." >"You're not anymore?" "They wouldn't let me back in. They said I was too traumatized from the wars we fought that I would be doing more harm than good if I stayed in." >"Oh... I'm sorry." "Don't be. Back then, I really was a monster." >"What?" "I left my family out of spite and for no reason. I didn't want to be there anymore. I wanted something new for my life. I abandoned them all and decided to just walk. After a long time, I don't know how, but I fell asleep one night, and woke up here." >"Don't you miss them?" "I think about them sometimes, yes. But now I have Fluttershy, and all of you. Remember what I told you earlier? Well, I finally found a place where I'm accepted and I feel I can belong." >"Even after all we've done to you?" "Yes. I could never abandon Fluttershy like I did my family. They didn't understand me like Fluttershy does. I am truly happy to be here." >And it was true. >If you could help it, you never want to leave here again. >"So you and Fluttershy..." Twilight giggled. "Don't push it Twilight." >You pet the top of her head and continue your walk to Ponyville. -- >You part ways with Twilight. >This day has been going very well so far. >You settled your differences with Twilight and Applejack. >The only one left is Rainbow Dash. >But you don't know anything about her. >You might have to ask the others for clues about how to get on her good side. >You pass a clock on the street corner. >It was noon. >Wow this day is going by fast. >You need to pick the fillies up from school soon, so taking the walk home seemed like a waste of time. >Instead, you walk to the school. >There were no ponies out in the schoolyard. >Lunch must be over. >How disappointing. >You find a shady spot underneath a tree and sit down. >You eat your apple and look around for a trash can. >There is one next to the picnic table. >Excellent. >You throw the core away and go back to lie down. >There's still about three hours until school's out. >And you are dead tired from the lack of sleep last night and all the walking you did this morning. >You fall asleep in the shade of that tree, safe from the warm afternoon sun.
