>Day party time on Earth. >Be Anon. >You brought a special gift for your best friend. >It's Aero's birthday and your mom is driving you to her house. >You walk up the porch and ring the doorbell; wrapped package in hand. >Open the door. >Get on the floor. >"Hello, little Nonny!" greeted Aero's mother. "And hello, Mrs. Anonymous. Are you staying or just dropping off?" >"I'm just dropping him off," answered your mother. "I'll be back in a while." >"Alrighty then. Take care!" >Your mom drives away and leaves you standing at the door. >"You can put your present on the table there," gestures Aero's mom. "The rest of the children are out back." "Okay." >You drop the present and go outside. >There's a bunch of fillies and other kids from your class running around and playing party games. >A quick scan finds the filly of the hour. >Aero is blindfolded and surrounded by other kids as she takes swings at a hovering pinata. >You decide to push yourself to the front of the crowd to say "Hi". "Aero! Sorry I'm- Oof!" >You take a bat to the gut and fall over to the ground. >"Vhut? Herro?" mumbled Aero around the bat in her mouth as she looked around for the voice. >She drops the bat, undoes the blindfold, and finds you on the grass. >There's also a crowd of kids laughing at you. >Even some of the parents, one with a video camera, are having a chuckle. >Aero smiles as she lowers her head to your level. >"Oh, hey Anon! What's up?" "Just catching my breath," you wheeze. >Aero reaches out a hoof to help you up. >Taking it in hand, you rise to your feet. >She proceeds to grab the bat and hands it off to another foal. >"Here, Pat. You can try," she says. >"Aww yee-ah," said the little zebracorn as he took the bat. >Aero walks with you over to the pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey as Pat decided to chuck the bat aside and shoot the pinata with dual nerf pistols instead. >"When did you get here?" asked Aero. "Just now. I got you a present." >"Is it magical wings?" asked the earth pony. "N-no?" >You're not quite sure what the right answer for that is. >"Ah, that's alright. I'm sure there's robot wings out there somewhere," replied Aero with a dismissive wave of her hoof. >That's always been a thing with her for as long as you've known her. >Which in all honesty was probably only like a year or two since she moved here. >Planes! Helicopters! Rocket ships! >Since Aero wasn't born a pegasus, she's often wondered how to get a hold of a flying machine in order to attain flight. >At one point in time, she jumped out of a tree and flapped her front legs as fast as she could in an attempt to fly. >Good thing it was autumn and there was a pile of leaves below her. >Which also happened to not be part of the plan. >Her mother says it was just a phase. >You're inclined to agree. >"Kids! It's time for cake!" called Aero's mother. >"Woo!" cheered every child in the backyard. >It was like a stampede as everyone ran into the house and into the dining room. >To much of your surprise, as well as all the other children's, Aero's mother bought her an ice cream cake. >Vanilla and oreo cookie, hell yeah. >Birthday song, blow out the candles. >Wow, one candle short from getting your wish. >Tough break, pony. >When the children were finished eating cake, it was time for the presents. >As expected, Aero was the first one off of her seat as she raced into the living room. >The rest of the children followed shortly after. >"Alright Aero," spoke her mother while simultaneously recording this moment with a rented video camera. "Pick your first present." >Aero tore through the first gift, which turned out to be a comfy-looking sweater. >A light-blue, smallish-looking female pegasus on the couch gave a quiet "Your welcome" after Aero thanked her. >Yada yada yada. >Gifts, wrapping paper, toy. >And at one point, socks. "Thanks grandpa..." mumbled Aero. >And older-looking pony raised his glass before he chugged his drink down. >And last but not least... >"From, Anon," read Aero. >You smile as she tore the paper off with her teeth. >"A kite!" she exclaimed. "Thanks, Anon!" >You were part of the group the was sitting in a semi-circle on the floor. >Aero gave you a quick hug around the neck, causing you to blush and others to laugh. >"Alright kids, guess what time it is?" piped up Aero's mother. >A clown kicked in the back door on cue. >Iiit's Bozo!" he shouted. >The rest of the kids cheered as they ran after him into the backyard. >You waited for Aero and were the last two to head out. >Several hours later, you find yourself sitting on the front porch. >Your face was painted like a tiger and you had a doggy-shaped balloon tied around your wrist. >Everyone else had left and you were sitting patiently for your mom. >Aero comes out dragging a familiar package and takes a seat next to you. >"Hey you," she starts. "How's about we take this baby out for a spin?" >The pony holds up the pieces of the kite you bought her. >Along with those pieces, she has some duct tape and string. "Sure!" you exclaim. >Two minutes later, you were across the street in a baseball field. >It was two minutes instead of one because Aero had to ask her mom if the two of you could go across the street. >Aero stares at the instructions on the grass as you piece the kite together as she tells you. >After several minutes, you hold the contraption up for her to see. "This doesn't loo right," you tell her. >The kite came out as four 'L's rotating clockwise. >"Hmm..." hummed Aero as she checked and doubled-checked her plans. "Oh!" >She quickly straightened the sticks to make the diamond shape you're familiar with. "Oooh..." you said in realization. >"Now that's a flying machine!" exclaimed Aero. "Yeah!- Wait, what?" you ask >Aero reaches down and tosses you the duct tape and yarn. >"Here. Tape the string to the kite and the kite to my legs," she said." >You steal glances from her, to the kite, and back. "But... but wouldn't that get us grounded?" you ask. >"Pfft," dismissed Aero with a wave of her hoof. "So?" "Oh, I never thought of it like that," you reply. >Some time later, you finally get the kite attached to Aero's body. >You decide to take a glance at the instructions. "It says here we need to run around in order to get the kite to fly," you say to Aero. >"Got it!" replied the pony as she ducked her head and gave her butt a shake. >In an instant, she was off. >Running to one end of the baseball field as fast as she could, she gave a hop so that she won't hit the fence. >When she didn't take off, she made a left turn and kept running. >Ever couple paces she gave another hop. >By the time she made it back around to you, she was dead tired yet still trying to hop. >So tired in fact, that she wasn't even running anymore. >Just slowly walking and wheezing heavily. >With one final lift of her body that didn't actually get herself off the ground, Aero collapsed to her side on the grass to catch her breath. >You stand over her and stare down at her. "So," you start. "Did you fly?" >"It was..." *gasp* *wheez* "Almost incredible," responded Aero. >After a short while to allow her to catch he breath, Aero finally rose to her hooves. >You passed the time by sitting down while picking the grass and letting it go in the breeze. >Aero saw the grass flow away in the wind when an idea came to mind. >"I got it!" she exclaimed. >You were now holding onto the yarn spool and Aero was standing on top of a line of picnic tables at the park. >It took a little bit for the two of you to push them together in a runway, but you got it. >"Okay, so here's the plan," started Aero. "We are going to wait until the wind starts blowing, you're going to run forward like you normall would when running with a kite, and I'll run after you. I will jump into the air at the end of the runway and I will finally take flight like the pegasus I always wanted to be~!" >You almost swear you can see stars in her eyes. >"You got that?" asked Aero. "Got it!" you confirm. >"Alright! Ready..." said the patient pony. >A slight breeze picked up. >"Steady..." >You grip the spool of yarn tightly in both hands. >The wind gusts and catches the kite on Aero's back. >"Go!" shouts the pilot pony. >You take off in a full sprint with Aero at five table-lengths behind you. >This wind dies for a brief moment, but gusts once more! >Stronger than the last. >The ktie on Aero's back snaps to the length of it's strings just as Aero leaps off of her platform and into the air! >You keep running as directed, but look back to check to see if your friend had face-planted into the ground. >To your surprise, and surely her's as well, she was airborne! >The wind was blowing, you were tugging her forward for that extra lift, nd the kite as a result was lifting higher and higher! >You can't believe it! >Was this pony's first flight? >Surely this will go down in history as the greatest- >The wind suddenly dies. >You feel the sudden tug and here a crash of kite and pony on the ground behind you. >Looking back, you find you friend rolling on the ground with you still running forward and dragging her. "Ah!" you panic as you stop and drop the yarn. >You run back to your friend and take her in your arms. >Oh know, she's unconcious! >Oh my God! She's dead- >Oh no wait, she's moving. >Aero groans and rubs her head with her hoof. "Aero!" you exclaim. "Are you alright?" >Please don't have a broken leg. >You don't want to get grounded. >"I'm fine," she says as she pushes herself out of your arms and stands on her own hooves. >Taking a quick look around, a smile suddenly appears on her face. >"That was awesome!" she shouts, doing a quick backflip on the ground. "Haha! Yeah it was!" you holler, joining the celebration. "Did you see how far you went? That must have been like ten feet!" >"Oh yeah!" >The two of you share in a high five. >"That's gotta be some kind of world record, right?" she asked. "I don't know. Two brothers flew a homemade plane pretty far," you tell her. >"Well, how far was that?" she asked. "Surely we beat it, right?" "I think so. Congratulations!" >The two of you dance around in celebration. >"We gotta do that again! Help me tie the- Oh no!" >Aero stopped and checked on the kite. >The shattered and torn remains of her glider lay in shambles on the grass at your feet. >"Never fear!" said Aero, sticking her chest out in confidence. "We shall acquire a new kite and we will send me into the stratosphere! Tomorrow morning!" >Her declaration was so powerful that it brought a single tear to your eye. >And then you realized something. "Wait, I can't. We have school tomorrow and I don't get my allowance for another month." >"Oh... Actually, me to. Well then... Next month! We shall acquire a new kite and we will send me into the stratosphere!" >If there were jets and flying eagles, you are sure they would have appeared overhead. >You give her your applause instead. >The honking of a minivan across the street gets the two of you's attention. >Your mom waves to you and hollers for you to hurry up. "Uh oh. I gotta go. See you in school tomorrow?" >"Yeah! Oh... Uh... Anon?" "Yeah?" >Aero gives you a quick peck on the cheek before blushing beet red and backing away. >"T-thanks for helping me fly today..." >She embarassingly runs away across the street and into your house. >You stand there dumbfounded and holding your cheek where she kissed you. >Your mother honks once more. >"Hurry up, Anon!" she yells. >Uh oh, gotta go.
