Now that you mention, it IS kind of strange that the third of the population that could the most easily handle labour never does any. Maybe unicorns just run out of mana really quick?
To put it into RPG terms, maybe it's like Stamina: Determines a pony's endurance, and how long they can keep up physically stressful tasks. Also determines how long a unicorn can maintain telekinesis. Earth ponies get a bonus. Skill: Determines a pony's dexterity when handling tools, whether with hoof or telekinesis. Unicorns get a bonus. Rarity Stamina: 1 Skill: 4 Applejack Stamina: 3 Skill: 2 |

I think it's because Earth ponies have "earth-related" magic. They can grow better crops and faster than other races. And unicorns aren't weak, Twilight came in 5th place in the Running of the Leaves, while Rarity was 2nd in the Sisterhooves social. |

@885 and Vree Yeah I always figured there had to be some sort of cost for using magic, or at least the consequence of becoming fatigued after using it the same way that you do after too much physical activity. That only makes sense, really. |
