A less trolly justification for this would be an attempt to see just what kind of stallion her niece was giving herself to. He certainly proved his worth, and Cadence proved hers. You know, crazy protective royal insticts. Not that she didn't immensely enjoy the chaos. And since she cares about her ponies, the changelings and their queen were never actually a threat: As shapeshifters, if they had really wanted to do some damage they would have assumed terrifying combat-oriented forms and just fucked shit up. In reality, changelings have been a hidden fourth pony race since before Luna's banishment.

It's funny if she was only down there for a day or two. It's sickening if she was down there for weeks, slowly starving to death. That's the deciding factor I guess, Celestia wouldn't put her niece in harm's way just for a joke, that tyrantlestia shit is pure fanon.
