The problem with blakk Twilight is that she's not blakk because of realistic diversity but instead because the artist has a blakk quota they need to fill so they can say "look, my characters are not all white, surely that means I am not racist!"
If we assume that the artist wants something like modern America for diversity, then that would mean there should actually be more latinos than blakks (16.3% of US population, compared to 12.6% for blakk people). It's especially bad that they latch onto one character for the blakk quota to the exclusion of others. Something good to ask when you see a blakk Twilight and other characters white is not why Twilight is blakk, but why Rarity and Fluttershy are white. It's the same as most American TV shows. There's a mostly white cast with one or two blakk people thrown in and maybe an asian, but rarely will you see a latino. |

I don't know what it is...but I just see her as black. Its not her voice, her VA, her colours, or her personality or anything....ever since I went to start drawing humanized ponies...I just thought of her as black. |

Because I just don't think it suits. It's like seeing a green Sonic presented as the real Sonic completely straight, I just get that feeling that the color doesn't fit. It just gets me as an attempt to be all "I'm accepting of other races" rather than a actual character interpretation. |

That was one of the stupidest comments I have ever read on this site. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU JUST WROTE! Do you honestly believe that artists draw her black just so they can assure themselves that there not racist? really? "If we assume that the artist wants something like modern America for diversity". Why would we assume that? What reason is there to assume that? On American TV show's its different. Corporate Executives want diversity shoved into the cast for the sake of mass market appeal, visual distinction, complaining Media Watchdogs, or just because. Artists on the Internet do not suffer from that because they are independent. If a character is a certain race it's because the artist associated that character with that race, wanted to to use different colors, or didn't care what race he/she drew them. And it's spelled "black" not "blakk". |
