It's an insult to the show and all the people who worked on it to say that if not for you, nobody would have noticed the show was great. You're basically saying that the show isn't great, that it only got "meme" status by catching your attention at random.

I totally agree with Cerulean. It kinda frustrates me that 4chan basically takes credit for Friendship is Magic being a good show. Celestia knows I didn't find it via 4chan. And neither did a lot of other people I know about.

Well, I started in the fandom around december of 2010, I was looking for videos on youtube and noticed a video of the first episode, that same weekend I watched the rest of the episodes. Then started to notice the coments talking about /co/, that way I discovered the pony general, so much art, I got hooked inmediatly. Later I discovered EQ, and with it fanfiction.
So much has happened from then: The apparition of fimchan and ponichan, the banning in 4ch, the war in /b/, getting the most views in knowyourmeme, FOX attacking bronies, the crazy first summer, synchtube, fimfiction... The thing is, 4chan was an important place at the begining, along with youtube, as the fandom started to organize there, but soon it expanded way beyond that and acomplished things that very few fandoms have done. tl;dr: Fim Fanfom is the best!!! |

The HUB was on a free weekend preview sometime in 2010 when I saw the listing. I have seen a few episodes of previous generations, so I was aware of the series. I saw the Friendship is Magic part of the title and the animation style, all I could think of was "Gee, another crappy flash cartoon to rake in a quick buck." So I watched a few minutes to see how bad it was... kept watching... then the episode after that.
It wasn't until early in 2011 that I found the fandom but was already a solid fan of the show at that point. I thank the awesomeness that is FiM, DirecTV's free preview, and my own cynicism for making me a fan. |
