Interesting. So the bowl-fluffy breed is a foal care adaption, forming a natural crib. The foals have easier access to teats and are less likely to wander off/get lost.
Of course lying on their backs like this can cause mares severe spinal damage over long periods of time and disfigured wings in fluffy pegasi. Given their short lifespan and the higher foal survival rate it's probably a worthwhile tradeoff. |
