Knowing that half of the genetic material comes from each parent, and with each parent having the same DNA (save for chromosomes), the foal is a perfect clone.

^not necessarily. You don't have two identical copies of each chromosome, so the offspring is likely to have at least some differences from the parent.
And a massively increased chance of genetic disorders, assuming Rainbow has any negative recessive traits. |

It's not from "On a Cross and Arrow", it's a pic for a thing called "Aurora Spectralis" (which is also the name of the filly) which in turn is a follow-up of "Rainbow's Lament". The content is odd, but the story is really well written. |

On the bright side: if Rainbow has no significant negative traits (let's assume she got her DNA tested at some point to find out, and only had sex with him when she found out she was fine genetically), this daughter should be fine, and we also know the father doesn't hav such traits either. The only problem then would be mutations, meaning this filly is much less likely than average to hav genetic disorders. |
