My headcannon has always been that the only reason Pumpkin Cake was able to do that was because he was still very small and light. But then again, we've seen Twilight levitate objects much heavier than herself (Ursa Minor, Tom, chunks of the dam), so she should also be able to do that by that logic. |

Maybe levitation spell can't last for long on heavy stuff, we see twilight getting tired when making stuff levitate when she face the ursa minor. with that pegasus still stronger in the sky if they can fly for hours instead of minutes.
And they also say that unicorn have only a bit of magic that is linked to their special talent (in trixie episode), Twilight talent is magic so she can perform many kinds of spell that aren't possible or way more difficult to learn for unicorn with a precise talent who are probably better with their talent spell than Twilight. |

twilight has already shown she can levitate in the show. she levitates herself and the other mane six at the end of the discord eps. |

My headcanon: she can't levitate herself because she can't concentrate when she's moving. As strong as her magic is, moving while casting a spell seems to be her one weakness.
This also explains why she was unable to "grab" Rainbow Dash in Return to Harmony (because she was flying in the air balloon) and why she found it to hard to teleport while running in Dragon Quest. |

I can't actually fly, I create a protective barrier around myself of which can lift my body through the air. Pretty much free flight, but cannot fly once the spell is knocked off. Also I require to jump first, if I start from a fall I can't activate it. :/ *splat* |

@359 That is an effect of the Elements of Harmony attack, just like in the pilot. |

@815 even if you take out the levitation during the actual elements of harmony attack, twilight teleports then levitates to retrieve the others from discords grip before the EoH attack. |
