When I see things like this, I have to wonder what Celestia ever could have done -accidentally or otherwise- to make Twilight so afraid of her. That's practically canon- the mere thought of disapppointing Celestia makes Twilight's little asshole clench in terror. Then again, that could just be a combination of love, respect, and being hopelessly inept at reading the emotions of others.

Well, all six of them have very specific character flaws. Fluttershy is a pansy, Rarity is flamboyant and overdramatic, Dash is an arrogant buffoon, AJ is stubborn and close-minded, Pinkie is insane and has major personal space issues, and Twilight is hopelessly paranoid.

Twilight has very low self confidence, she bases her own sense of self-worth off the worth others find in her. It's what drives her often, this need for validation, and it goes beyond Celestia. Remember how desperate she was to find her place during Winter Wrap-Up? How scared and frustrated she got at the prospect of disappointing somepony in Ticket Master?

She measures her worth with the yardsticks of others, and for all her life she focused on studies, so it's first and foremost Celestia's approval she looks for. That's why everything needs to be 'perfect' for Celestia, because the princess deserves nothing less, and as her student, nothing less than perfection is demanded of her.

It's faded since Lesson Zero, though. That episode finally gave her the reassurance she needed (Celestia assuring her of how good a student she was, her friends barging up and defending her from royalty to make up for their mistake), and since then she's been much more confident.

I think she does kind of give off the vibe of "If I'm not a good student or good at magic or a good friend what use am I?"
