Technically, they didn't. Survivors of the burning of Troy followed Aeneas on a journey through the Mediterranean (and managed to piss of Dido, Queen of Carthage along the way), eventually coming to land in what we now call Italy. There, the Trojans made an alliance with the Latins. Long after, Aeneas' descendants bore twin sons they named Romulus and Remus, one of whom would die over a location dispute, and the other would found Rome.

It just got all history lesson up in this bitch.

Well, it's an unsure historical source. The recording about Aeneas is supposedly made up by the romans, in order to make a "Legit" connection to the greek cultures and history - which they did their best to look like (Hence the close resembling between roman and greek gods, arhitecture, clothing etc). Also, the whole thing with pissing of Dido is, likewise, supposedly a way for romans to build up their national identity (Remember, the punic wars and the battle against Hannibal Barkas was a great deal for the roman identity back then. The defeat of the neighbouring mediterranian superpower Carthage is one of many reason why the roman republic came to see themselves, as the ""true" civilized culture in the known world - And hence why they wanted that connection to the greek civilization (For their arts, philosophies, legends etc.)).

That being said, southen italy was colonized by greek colonies, to the knowledge of greek littereature etc. could easily reach Rome during its period under Etruscan supremacy, though the supposed travels of Aeneas likely originates during either the late republic or eraly emperic period of Rome.
