You know, MM still made both her and SA into endearing characters and made me wish them a happy ending over the spam of 40 minutes. Sure, they were introduced as plot devices, but if you think about it so were many one-shot characters (yes, even Discord). |

She was suppose to be a princess, but unlike Celestia or Luna she isn't involve in any decision regarding the direction of equestria (just like prince blueblood but with a better attitude).
For the love power, I'm not sure, we know that sun and moon can be control by more than just Celestia and Luna so maybe this power is not unique either. And none of the princess are gods nothing ever imply it in the show, all the ponies overreact about them and makes mistake because of their misconception every they show up. but I have to agree with the perfection rant. Both her and Shining was made to be perfect apart only one weakness that make them vainquished by Chrysalis. Perfect princess with love power, perfect guard captain with ever serious and duty sense personality, all in this seem artificial. At least some fanon have complete their personality for the better, I think I would never manage to like S.A. if it wasn't form the fans that rebuild him from scratch. |

Maybe she is a bit Sue-ish, but it's nowhere near terrible.

I remember this thread! Someone made the excellent point that she wasn't so much the one who saved the day, as she was a blue lantern to Shining Armor's green.

I have a soft spot for true love stories like her's and Shining Armors. Is it unrealistic? Probably, but there not gonna put material problems in a kid show.
Besides she got the crap kicked out of her, and only managed to beat Chrysalis because Twilight freed her and allowed her work with Shining Armor. The only reason people don't like her is because she's an Alicorn so she josses other people's fanon At this point the term "Mary Sue" simply means "character I don't like". |
