Dithering is when you mix several colors in a pattern to achieve more colors. It was very popular with older computers and consoles which had a limited number of colors. |

well i wasnt quite trying to do that. I was just trying to make the wings seethrough and cause of the limits of the paint program thats the best i could do. |

That's called stipple transparency. A common method to achieve transparent objects without blending colors. It is for example used in Fallout 3 and other modern games to make it easier mix particle effects and shadows. |
