@983
They do it a lot on fluffy pony posts, regardless of whether they're abuse or hugbox. You can get an Adblock program, but it'd probably be better to nip the problem in the bud.

Huh, I guess it's a good thing that my old username (on my laptop) has parental controls, even though it could get annoying

All of my yes.

Either:
-Non Anon posting pictures and changing tags
or
-No pictures in the comments at all
or
-Pictures in comments can only be seen if the user has an account and doesn't filter any rating.

Report buttons aren't that useful, since these could be abused again and mean a lot of work for the mods.

Oh and people, report THIS image here, so mods actually get to read it. They don't look at all the pictures in general, so they see it's a big issue for us.

@Professor You can, and I do, but that doesn't mean you don't get a good look at them.
Sure, you don't see 'em afterwards, but the image is probably imprinted on your retinas by then.

Something needs to be done no argument about that. But allowing the OP to delete a comment would mean if they disagree with someones comment they could just remove it even if there as nothing wrong with it.

While this is annoying the only thing you can do against that is ban all anon comments, which is pretty harsh. It's also arguably not that bad compared to posting porn/gore or whatever gets posted here in the comments.

the "OP can delete" is not bad, but has some flaws or can be exploited:

-the op has to do it personally, meaning if s/he isn't online or doesn't relook often what s/he uploads it may take some time to have the comment removed (surely some time is better than never)
-the op may use it to remove not offensive comments (but since i guess only named users will be able to do it the possible exploiting shouldn't be so broad)

i would suggest something else, which may work at the same time of the other suggestions
instead of the report button for comments, which as liquid said it only adds more work for the mods, what about an hide comment button? something like there is on youtube comments
it would require no mods, or OP, and it would work instantly
it could be exploited anyway... >.> so there is still more to think about it..

Hi I help go through the report Queue here on the site! There is a delete comment button for the administrators, and we try to get to things as quickly as possible! The problem is the report queue is just /really long/ -- a lot of people somehow mistake it for a search bar, there are many "not pony" images ((Especially recently )) that flood up the queue, and several hundreds of reports that are just "dupe" without an image number of what the dupe is, which makes it hard and/or extremely time consuming to find a solution to. And it can get so long, over night even, to where it breaks the report queue .
If you see a comment that violates the rules, or something to that nature, then you can report the image, and in the report simply state that there's spam or explicit images. We'll get to it as soon as possible!

I can assure you, CodenameOne, that we are not "Fucking morons [who] need to actually moderate their site instead of just sitting around like jackasses letting everyone run rampant." This is a large site, and few of us.
I literally do nothing besides go through the report queue simply because it is very time consuming! If you guys report it, we can work to do something about it. Sometimes it just takes long because the queue is so long, and well. Because we all have lives and responsibilities outside of the site!

However, I will pass this along to Eco myself, right now, and see if he is able to do anything to help make it easier for all of us to use the sight!!

Sorry for the inconvenience, and I assure you that we're working as hard as possible! I've been going through the report queue for hours today, don't you worry!

thank you for reporting this image and thereby bringing it to our attention.

as mentioned by shad the way to report bad comments is to report the images the comments were posted on. if we know about it we try to act on it; I for one consider explicit comments on safe images to be a bannable offense, and in the case of gorespam-type stuff I usually ban for extended periods. and I've also been looking at other solutions - other ways that might prevent people from doing this kind of stuff without requiring manual mod intervention (since, again as shad mentioned, this is a huge site and I'm uncomfortable turning over the keys to the kingdom to someone unless I trust them personally).

vis a vis suggested solutions:
1) anything that limits the ability of anonymous users to use the site is right out. it doesn't actually fix anything; troublemakers can easily make dozens of accounts and continue their troublemaking, and since all bans are ip bans, it's not like we can't already enforce the rules against anons.
2) removing image comments entirely... I'm open to it. we went for a year without anyone realizing img tags existed, and it's been the cause of a few problems (aside from gorespam balderdash, the "dance party" threads have made some images difficult-to-impossible for people with slow connections to view).
3) a full-featured comment-rating system (with optional user-adjustable hiding of low comments) would be a great feature. on the other hand I'd have to code it from scratch. not throwing away this option, just... saying, it'd be a lot of work and I'm trying to figure whether it's worth it compared to (2).

(I'm going to say it again to be sure people see it: mods can already delete comments, and mods can already IP-ban anonymous users who break the rules. And we have been doing this as instances of it have come to our attention.)

What about a priority system on the report queue?

Dupes get pushed back, while mass spamming images or comments get pushed up so you can react to those faster?
TheLoneLampman

While it would be a lot of work, the comment rating system would 'solve' a lot of the other problems than just the pics. Spam and inappropriate/troll postings could be hidden easily and quickly until they can be dealt with properly. I'm sure people would be more willing to downvote a comment instead of sending a report and it would cut down on the cue at the same time.
A little bit of work now could save you much more down the road. I don't think there's any better way to improve on the current freedom we have and still get rid of the crap that piles up.
