Rarity is just burning though daddy's Hoofball money.
A "capitalist" would know better than to attempt to sell fashions to nudists. |

That "capitalist" is really fond of her job and is a member of the good part of the economy: the one that actually produces something. |
| nyxabuse #1446326 1 month ago |
A capitalist is somepony who employs others to work for them, and profits from their labour.
Rarity is an artisan; under Marxist theory, I guess she'd be petit borgouisie. |

She offends me because I AM THE LAW. |

Rarity would happily join communism as long as she can get attention. She's very generous. |

Don't you dare post that here.
You'll turn me into a Rarity fan. ;-) |

@nyxabuse: You might want to look up some more credible definitions of capitalism in the future, because your definition was numbingly narrow. You don't have to have a single employee to be a capitalist, and even if you did, Rarity hired Spike to help her dig up gems once, so she has had an employee. |
| PanzerKunst #1447180 1 month ago |
@bboifatz No more than hiring a plumber to fix my drain this morning makes me a capitalist.
If you wanna get anal, then what occurred with spike was contract labor, not wage labor. He performed a service in exchange for money. He didn't get paid a wage or a salary to become an employee of hers (though he would have jumped at the job). nyxabuse is correct that Rarity is a petit-bourgeois artisan. She makes her money by her own labor, using tools she owns. If she started shifting towards management, and hiring others to design and make dresses, she'd be a proper capitalist. |

Well, correct me if Im wrong but Rarity is the 99% as well isnt she? |

OP offends me because OWS is about corporate welfare and not capitalism. |

Indeed she isn't. That's why she struggles to fit in with true elites of fashion and business. And that's why she works constantly. She isn't in an ivory tower, being a fashion queen. She's probably still an up and comer. |

*sigh* I see so much ignorance. If you own a business then you are a capitalist, whether you have no employees or thousands of them. Employment, stock, etc. are all aspects of capitalism, but they are not the concept of capitalism at it's core. Remember that lemonade stand you opened when you were 7? You were a capitalist, because you were providing a product/service and selling it.
Rarity owns a business. It does not matter if that business fits into the stereotype of a big corporation or not, because OWS's stereotype of capitalism is not the definition of capitalism. She realized that she could make money providing a product / service, and so she made a business out of it by opening a shop. Her well being is dependent on a good spending economy, i.e. how much capital is available for people to spend on her clothing. Capitalism is not a dirty word, although it doesn't surprise me that a bunch of dirty, unwashed hippies living in tents think it is. |
