I concur with angryshy. I feel for Shinji, but at some point you have to realize that stopping the apocalypse is more pressing than your daddy issues.

So?
Fuck End of Evagelion. Watch Rebuild 2.22. The last fight is everything we ever wanted and a feast for ears and eyes!

^ Oh yes. Things are starting to look up now for the Rebuild series. Still, you can't help but go back to how things were before. Many people do for reference and nostalgia's sake.

Zancrow, Eze; Shinji almost CAUSED Third Impact while saving Rei, if anything he's worse in Rebuild.

He fucking turned into a god and whooped Zeruel's ass while saving Rei.
Much better than in the original series.

^^ You make a good point. Although he finally regained his will to fight, he almost consciously repeated the Third Impact. All in all, just to prevent any future shitstorms, whether he has improved or not, your mileage will vary.

I think the Rebuild movies are too simple and idealized compared to the anime and EoE, the ending (Before the credits, at least) of the second movie felt like it was trying to be "Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann" (Or at least what a lot people seem to asume TTGL is).

Shinji is underrated, really. The times he has been "whiny", as too many people call him, he is actually being forced inside of his mind (When the black-and-white ball angel traps him, when he desintegrates inside of his Eva, both at the ending of the series and the movie), that, plus everything he went trhough (A lot of people, including his father, trying to use him, Asuka hating him for reasons he doesn't understand, almost killing one of his only friends by force, seeing the Rei clones exploding, everybody becoming so distant to him, having to kill Kaworu... I could go on) it's no wonder he is flat-out insane by the time of the movie, where he is ALSO forced to become "God" and decide the fate of everything...

People seem to forget that, in the end, Shinji made the bravest decision there was (In the EoE movie, that is), he stopped Instrumentality and chosed the horrible reality over the comfortable lie ("Don't run away", anyone?), and gave everybody the chance to do the same. But of course, I guess a bland but "badass who gets the girl" main character is more appealing...
