Then fluffy stories make no sense. If they're considered a pest, you call an exterminator or leave out poison to dispose of them. You don't pointlessly abuse them, kill them even MORE messily, or go buy one of the things just to do any of the above. I can't imagine why they would even be sold at that point. Whereas if they're not pests (given pet shops apparently sell them) it's animal cruelty and more pointless sadism. Fluffy "canon" is too loose for me to make any definitive claims, but I've seen too many stories that show them as being far more intelligent than most people give them credit for, even in abuse stories where they're supposedly unintelligent. Particularly in regard to memory and training. Point being, their status as pests is not really written very convincingly. TL:DR fluffy pony stories require too much suspension of disbelief in either direction.

@440 I do enjoy some stories, even some abuse. Deserved abuse (I'd prefer simple punishment) is alright. However, a dam neglecting a runt is just nature and instinct, which many animals will do. Runts have very little chance of surviving even if cared for, and as fragile as fluffies usually are? Nigh impossible to keep alive. Though again, it's strange how that one is portrayed as a natural instinct when fluffies are supposedly artificial. Did some asshole encode that into them, like their language, or is it a holdover from the instincts of whatever animal fluffy genetics are based on? Ideas, ideas. But I digress. The goals are always the same, wheter to abuse or to cuddle, you can be up front about it, but the story will just be not that good. The most well-written stories have a nice and well setting and at least mild character development.
