@CottonTales That would require the number of pedophiles to be significantly smaller than the number of victims (after accounting for population growth), which would be extremely unlikely even if by pedophile you mean child molester. |

No real citation available the studies vary too greatly if I found a study that said one thing you could find another that says completely different it ranges from a low of 0% to a high of 80% I would of said 40% as a middle but that seems to high to me Plus sexually abused males aren't likely to admit the incident (much more likely to block it out) and more males are reported as pedophiles than females so that just throws all kinds of research out the window Interesting tidbit I found while looking this up though: a growing theory for pedophilia is that it's genetic (We blame everything on genes nowadays) |

That mentions the 12% figure. Also, the 80% figure supposedly comes from "one recent study" (1982 according to one source) "in Oregon". I've been unable to find an actual citation for it. @CottonTales ONE HUNDRED SEVENTEEN? the logistics of that are just mind-boggling. There's also a problem with the numbers there. Most child molesters go for children they know. How would they know almost a hundred children on average? The average child probably doesn't know that many. There's an additional problem if the supposed 1-5% of the population being child molesters was something Gene Abel really said (on a CNN special report called Thieves of Childhood). That would require an extreme overlap to allow for the number molested to not exceed the total population, let alone the child population. There is definitely something afoul of these statistics. |

I don't know that's just what the numbers say it's easy for say a teacher or preacher or a professional babysitter or just someone who works with children to know over a hundred children in their lifetime and they have pretty easy access to getting them alone and are usually someone the children trusts (I'm just guessing this now so I apologize if it doesn't make a lick of sense) |
