Real fans? Real fans?! Some people will fight to the death for their fanon, and some will start making shit up, or cry, but they especially overly analyze the shit of something and are so biased they'll twist anything to make them seem right, even if it never happened on the show, and they have nothing to back it up. Those people are cancer. |

Actually, most fanbases heavily discourage fanon divergence from canon, so I'd say most "Real" fans would stay even if the show crushes most of their personal "head-canon" |

This person fails to realize just how flexible fanon is. Unless canon EXPLICITLY contradicts fanon (which hasbro will generally not do at all) people can come up with all sorts of excuses.
Hell, just look at all the "Sweetie Belle is Rarity's daughter" things that came up. Hasbro specifically made them sisters, but some of the fanon stated that it was merely a ruse. And lets not forget Cupcakes and all the grimdark alternate universe stuff that comes from that. Fans can literally do anything, and ways will be found to make it work with, or sidestep canonocity. |

Depend of how strong is the canon contradiction, how strong is the fanon idea and of course the purpose of the fanon.
for exemple, shipping of Shining Armor with anypony else than Cadence is strongly anti-canon and avoid by most people. Shipping of Fluttershy and Big mac is lightly against canon and some fan like it a lot so it continue. And of course stories that are definatly isolate from the show like cupcake don't care for canon at all(Rainbow dash have obviously survive party of one in the canon). |

"Kids show" is a bit biased in of itself though, the show has demonstrated over and over again that it also strives to be able to be appreciated by older viewers, with its detailes references to Greek and other aspects of ancient history, and its relevant moral lessons. It's for kids, but you know, there's a reason we enjoy it too. Your "overanalysis of a kids show" argument really has no clout, because at this point you could say it's a show for everyone. And at risk of pissing you off and ravaging your colon, when shit as bad as the Mare Do Well episode comes around, can you blame people for "overanalyzing" in an attempt to better understand that sort of thing? |

And to clarify, I've never had problems reconciling my headcanon with true canon. If anything, I enjoy having my headcanon defied. I see it as an improvement. Really, I have yet to be really disappointed by canon. Even Celestia being a wet noodle is fine by me, because that means she really worked to make Equestria the way it is. She didn't just stomp her hooves and everything became all cool and happy. She's not some super goddess, she's just a lanky freak of a pony cursed with immortality who has a vision and the means to make it happen. That's quite a bit better than her being the perfect, all-knowing embodiment of the sun, imo. |
