btw at the moment we have a bot battle between tag spambots and a tag restorer (unless spambuster isn't a bot, if so sorry for calling you that)

Suggestion for admin: Require a captcha for all user activity until being registered for 5 days, and completing at least 10 captchas. This will make it take too much time and effort to remove the captcha to be worth it to try to spam.

Also consider caching some of your content by generating HTML files whenever the DB is updated, instead of generating HTML on-the-fly. The cached HTML can be inserted with a PHP include() to allow dynamic user-specific elements to be added to the tops and bottoms of pages.

I'm certain that with these improvements, the site will require a small fraction of the current load with negligible sacrifice to the user experience.
