*looks at the tags*
Seriously, guys? who the fuck tagged this? @OP I don't know. Maybe they're not, let's say, attention grabbing. If you have a dA account, I'd be glad to follow and give opinion on your work. I'm, by no means, an artist, but I like throwing opinions about anything. |
| Anonymous #1431460 1 month ago |
The problem is the flood, so many pic get upload everyday, it take like 2 day before your stuff get burried so deep that none will see it anymore. |
| Verbose #1431463 1 month ago |
I don't know about the art process, but I feel like tumblr and deviantArt are better for that sort of thing. I know EqD has artist training grounds and stuff. You may want to work privately and not post anything to try to develop your style and preferences for a bit, and then try one of those out.
Ponibooru is more of a repository for all things pony from news to meta posts and actual pony in between. If you've seen some of the comments from Anonymous, and even registered users, then you may be able to tell that some users here aren't that "nice." ...As evidenced by the current tags of "autism butthurt meta op_is_fag" |
| CottonTales #1431464 1 month ago |
dunno I'd post on an art site if you want feedback |
| Don #1431465 1 month ago |
You want attention on ponibooru?
Cause drama, and lots of it. But if you want serious attention, even despite the responses this will get, get a dA account. |
| Anonymous #1431479 1 month ago |
Sadly im not sure that DA is a guaranty of respecfull feedback either, but at least your tags would be safe there.
As for your feedback ColgateUnicorn, I can't prononce. I tryed to watch your upload but this site keep crashing. I may try again tomorrow and leave a general comment here. |
| Anonymous #1431483 1 month ago |
Draw pretty animu humanizations.
Anyway, Ponibooru isn't a good art site. It's good to find artwork but if you want people to notice you use Deviantart. |
| Anonymous #1431490 1 month ago |
This is an aggregate site. All water flows downhill, even sewage, so we have to mentally filter out some things even if it means ignoring someone who could seriously need critique.
If you need it, go to a dedicated artist site and post it there. Make sure to specify that you want critique and there will probably be one or two people that will help. Also, study the basics and principles. Surface alone will can make you popular, but with knowledge and experience comes true ability. |

If you want positive feedback, don't make attention-seeking meta posts. |
| Etherchanter #1431498 1 month ago |
@OP: Please don't take Ponibooru seriously, it's just a repository. Comments don't necessarily happen on good art here unless it's from a well-known artist, really funny or controvertial.
Cheers! |

Just remember out of all the haters you still have fans like me.
Would say more if the site wasn't derping. Hugs? |
| CaravanPalace #1431511 1 month ago |
If you want feedback, or constructive criticism just ask for it. I think what your basically asking for (feedback) is perfectly reasonable.
Besides, we should give feedback even when not asked, but yes, ponibooru has a place for learning artists. Ignore the naysayers |

Oh, Colgate, you card!
This is just a test, again! |
| ArcCahlon #1431524 1 month ago |
other then getting your image featured chances are it won't get a lot of feedback. mostly due to the fact a single days post can number as many as 30 pages and commenting system isn't the best. I say take the others advice and try deviant art. as long as its not explicit work (clop) DA is the best chances of getting feedback. course you can also try and just submit to as many sites as you can think of if your trying to get recognized |

Face the truth: You suck. |
| Anonymous #1431610 1 month ago |
(I'm a regular here but I'm logged out since I don't wish to personally draw attention.)
My own art hardly ever gets any comments on here and get rejected from numerous groups on DA too. How can I get feedback if I can't get exposure? It's such a shitty feeling to be consistantly overlooked no matter what I do. Everyone, please leave comments. Even if it's just to point out flaws or say nice job, it can still be a huge help. Do it for the artists. Most of us aren't attention whores but we would like some feedback to acknowledge our existance and efforts. It's highly discouraging to be ignored to such a huge degree and makes it feel like such a waste of time and energy to even try. Without artists there is no art. Without art there is no ponibooru. |
| CaravanPalace #1431627 1 month ago |
For futures reference, all artists who want to, tag the art you want feedback from with "want_feedback". So we can create a taglist of artists who want constructive criticism. I love giving feedback and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I can sympathize with your plight, for alot of artists, creating art is very approval oriented, and its hard to get idea of how to develop or improve your art in a vacuum. I'll make a point to comment, but you have to tell us you want feedback in a tag system. Its probably the easiest way of flagging art that an artist wants comments on. |
| CaravanPalace #1431639 1 month ago |
For the mods, I would suggest a feedback button in the uploads format that flags art that's been personally posted by artists who desire feedback. An additional sub-panel called "feedback", like the "comments" section in ponibooru could be formatted to compile artwork that has been flagged for feedback. This would allow us to more easily communicate with our artists on ponibooru. |

You get negative votes? There's a reason for that.
Ask for advices after posting your drawings, and ignore thos who say "lol u suk". The first thing you should do is to spend more than 5 minutes to draw the basic sketch. |

@ColgateUnicorn
I glanced through your posting history, and while I didn't look through every single upload, the ones I saw with negative ratings were primarily text-only posts and screenshots. Only as I had almost finished writing this post did I notice that the piece you were referring to was the Pony Prom piece. One single piece getting downvoted by two people does not constitute a pattern of something that happens "all the time", though. As for the art itself (I'm assuming the uploads tagged with artist:ArchimedesOgle are ones you made; if not, whoopsies!), I can't really offer too much actual advice as I don't actually draw and am not too familiar with all the techniques, but I can offer some personal opinions. First of all, comparing more recent uploads to earlier ones, I definitely think you're improving. However, even on page 2 of your uploads, I'm seeing a lot of bright, solid-color backgrounds (e.g. pure red and pure blue). In general, I'd advise against this as bright, single-color backgrounds can be a bit of an eyesore and detract from the focus of the picture. The second thing I'm noticing is that you're doing a lot of OC art as opposed to the ponies with well-established fanbases. This is fine if that's what you want to do, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect the pieces to be as popular as those containing characters from the show that everyone is familiar with. If you were to ask me to pick a favorite from your art, I would say this piece: >>179953 I like the fact that you spent the time making a (relatively) detailed background there and implemented lighting effects with details such as the glare in the window and the shading on the party hat. Finally, stop putting yourself down. I'm going to be blunt: While it's good to remember you're not perfect and there will always be people out there who are more skilled than you, not many people like it when people constantly whine about their own flaws. I have no issues with the text image you posted here (aside from the fact that you inaccurately referred to a single, specific incident as something that happens "all the time"), but this isn't the only post I saw in which you lamented over the fact that your art isn't considered as good as some others, and adding tags like not_as_good_as_cogweaver to your own art is not productive in the least. (I can't be sure, but perhaps that is why two people downvoted your most recent piece?) Again, this is the Internet. It contains many people and it's very unlikely you'll ever be the best in any given field, but don't forget, the converse is also just as true. ;) Anyway, I hope you find this comment useful, but if you want more detailed advice from people who actually understand the techniques behind artwork as opposed to people who just like to look at pretty pictures, I'd recommend looking at a site dedicated to that purpose, such as the MLP Drawing School subreddit. I've never actually spent much time on that particular subreddit, but it seems to be a place to get the feedback you're looking for. |

I'm not really a big well known artist, I'm extremely new to it in fact having only been drawing seriously for short of 7 months tops. At first I got no feedback, but I just kept at it.
I look for things that can personally challenge me. If I see a style I want to emulate, I try it. If I feel like trying to make an animated picture, I go for it. If I get a comic idea, I draw it. If I'm lucky, i get feedback. If I do or don't, I start looking at other people's art, screencaps from the show, even sketching with my finger in thin air to get familiar with styles and techniques. I've only been drawing my own pony fanart for less than 8 months, and the difference my method has made on my recent art is massive. I'm by no means good, but I'm much better at drawing than before. As for posting your art, You should look to dA and Tumblr for initial postings, and then upload to Poniboru and include either a dA source or Tumblr source link. Then just leave it the hay alone, draw something new while you wait about a day for comments to show up on all sites. Ponibooru's comments tend to be geared towards humerous or hurtfully critical (but you need that to improve where you messed up), so take whatever is said here in your stride. dA commenters usually try to be nice, but a large proportion don't give proper feedback and instead just say "good job". Tumblr is even less social when you're new to the site. Most users simply "Like" posts and move on. Knowing this typical apathy, you should take every Ponibooru favourite as a type of "score" to better next time. With dA, favourites are also a type of "score", but at least there you can submit to art groups for better coverage. On Tumblr, your art has to stand on its own. As you earn more followers, and people start reblogging their fave posts, your coverage shall grow. |

Stop being a shitty artist and quit with the role playing bullshit. Actually completely eliminating the roll-playing shit from your art will make you more likable. |
| Etherchanter #1431840 1 month ago |
@OP:
Wow! I think you got a lot of great answers here. I do intend to look at your art as soon as the 'Booru is more stable. @CaravanPalace: I just love your idea of the "want_feedback" tag. It just makes sense. @everypony: I'm thinking of retracting my statement of "don't take Ponibooru seriously" earlier on because of the comments section of this post. You guys were (generally) awesome in your responses even though this post could have been taken totally the wrong way. This is why we CAN have nice things. Pony on! |

I absorb data from these useful comments.
Now I just need to stop being lazy and actually draw some more. |
| Anonymous #1432360 1 month ago |
It's anon 479 again, and I'll keep my words but since the crash continue, I'll only speak for the 179953 pic that SnowPhoenic give on this page.
You usually color correctly without leaving blank or others mistake but sometime form, like square and circle may not be as correct as you want them to. Still you have succed the most important parts of the picture so the larger amount of time you must have pass on them is noticeable. |
| Anonymous #1432819 1 month ago |
Try not sucking, how about that? |
| Anonymous #1433413 1 month ago |
How can you be so rude 819. Everyone goes through hard begginig when they start drawing (some people like me never see the end of that phase) and it's especially important to not be put down by anons on internet to have the motivation to continue. |
| Ananonymous #1433431 1 month ago |
not saying anons are jerks, but asking them advices isn't really the best of ideas |
| Jarntazecht #1486320 1 week ago |
I think that what really gets feedback on images here is not just a drawing of something, but an idea nobody has done before, or doing an obscure crossover. Then the fans of that thing will love you for it. So don't just draw Rarity. Draw Rarity as a character from something or alongside a character from something she might like. |
