Well... Technically it isn't "Magic" itself, but the "Magic" of friendship she represents. In my opinion, the people working on the show screwed up. Twilight should be the element of Communication as she is the one that brings reason to the world via words. She also gained the 6th element because she finally learned to communicate with others rather than shoving them off. |

You've got it all wrong from the statement itself. |

The circumvent to the paradox is recognizing that there is more than a single magic. |

Magic comes in many different forms. There are too many variables present in the definition of magic, not to mention more in such an abstract concept as friendship, for any conclusions to be absolute. |

We've already dealt with this kind of argument before. Where you make the mistake is assuming that Magic is the composite that results from the six elements; an understandable blunder considering that it is in the title. However, the result of matching up the six is not Magic; it is HARMONY. Magic AKA Friendship is the 6th element, the "spark" mentioned by Celestia. So Twilight Sparkle is the element of Friendship = Magic.
So the equation comes out as Friendship = Magic Loyalty + Honesty + Generosity + Kindness + Laughter + Magic = Harmony which can be substituted for Loyalty + Honesty + Generosity + Kindness + Laughter + Friendship = Harmony if you want. Also from a grammatical standpoint we could point out that "is" can imply not just sameness but also similarity or cause-and-effect relationship. So "Friendship Is Magic" could be taken to mean that friendship leads to magic, or freidnship is akin to magic. |
