As much as I like Rarity, I think she's a bit too high maintenance for me. Octavia is a very classy lady, however she doesn't seem like a "everything must be perfect or my day is ruined" type. You can also tell she's a natural beauty, whereas with Rarity we know that she spends a lot of time in front of a mirror every day.
Octavia seems like she'd be more of the struggling artist type, but whatever her actual personality is I find her incredibly attractive-- I dare say I think she's one of the most visually attractive characters in the entire show. |

Octavia's a BG pony. She's never spoken, she doesn't have a canon personality... Hell, she's only had about 7 seconds on the show in the background at all. She could be a female pony embodiment of Charles Manson that's influenced by Lil Wayne music instead of the Beatles.
OK, maybe that's a little far-fetched, but do you see my point? The question's kind of stupid for that reason, IMO. |

The fact of the matter is that with Octavia you can project whatever waifu persona you want on her since she has no canon characterization. With Rarity, she's an actual character and you have to accept her as she is, so this question really isn't fair. |

Considering that Rarity actually has a CANON personality, she'd be the only viable option. But don't let that be the only reason to choose the white unicorn. She's the clear winner even if Octavia wasn't an easter egg for Bronies. |

I like Rarity's personality. Her persnicketyness is more of a show, she usually solves her own problems so no big deal.
Also, we've seen her in situations where she wouldnt have makeup on or it owuld be ruined...she looks the same (or better in the case of wet mane). These situations would be:waking up, being trapped underground after being kidnapped, drenched, after scaling a mountain, being covered in mud, in the middle of spa treatments, etc. So I can only conclude that the makeup (the eyeliner really) is merely some form of conveyance that this pony cares about appearance and is the "pretty one" Personality+pretty=win |
