Criticism time!
-AFAIK, Darwin wasn't opposed to people manipulating hereditary factor, so the title is stupid. |
| The_Mungoman #1421560 1 month ago |
^The title is about fluffy ponies defying natural selection by... existing. |
| Nebbie #1421563 1 month ago |
factors*
Seriously, Darwin probably didn't even think it was possible, he had no idea what genes or DNA were other than something was transmitting traits to the next generation and getting naturally modified over time. |

@The_Mungoman
That would be Nature or God then. Darwin's not some king of natural selection, he just noticed that it happens. |

So... at some point in the next two years habro losses it... about five times over? |

It sounded catchy to me :C |

@The_Mungoman
Many catchy titles make little sense when you know about the subject and think for a moment. |

Yeah, darwin didn't give a shit about people manipulating natural selection. it's called "selection". It's how we turned wild plants and animals into all the crops and farm animals we know today. (Mostly without realizing what we were doing, I might add.) |

^ Look at what we did to corn! |

Very good. interested to see how this progresses.
I was trying to work up an origin story but I'd like to see what you come up with, Mungo. |

Here's my nonsense idea about fluffy genetics:
Genetics of Fluffy Ponies Fluffies are related to rabbits as they were used as the genetic template for fluffy ponies. Other bits of DNA were extracted from dolphins, alpacas, and reptiles. There is little actual pony DNA in a fluffy pony. Mutations are rare, as they either prove fatal or cause the dam to reject the fluffy foal at birth. Transplant between fluffies is easy to accomplish due to their close genetic relation to each other. Generally, any organs can be transplanted from fluffy to fluff without issue, though surviving the procedure is another problem entirely. The first batch of fluffies had the ability to "merge," which was caused by a defect in the regenerative parts of their reptile DNA. Thankfully, this trait seems to have gone dormant, but it allows fluffy organs and body parts to quickly reintegrate into the fluffy if properly reconnected. Fluffy recombination experiments are banned by the UN after a 50 ft fluffy destroyed a scooter and bruised a man's shin. http://pastebin.com/chVa8erM |

*Aw crap, I forgot to add a line.
After Miescher says "So, Mr Laudener--" Laudener cuts him off and says "Please, call me Steve." |

Mungoman, this is a good setup and I'm interested to see what you do with it in the future. Unfortunately there's no to much to say here since it is all setup with the promise of a future payoff. I will say as far as characterization goes it seemed at first that you were establishing Professor Miescher as a Frankenstein-esque character but the latter part of the story seems to break from that. I don't want to claim it's inconsistent since this is the first time we've seen these characters, but I am wondering how is personality is going to come across in the future.
Another thing I'm curious about is what you plan on doing with unicorn fluffies considering you seem to be working from a more realistic setting. Of course due to the volatile nature of fluffy canon you could really do whatever you'd like, but it will be interesting to see how plausible an explanation you could come up with for the abilities they've shown in other stories. Anyways, definitely looking forward to more of your writing, Mungoman! Good luck with everything! |

This intrigues me. Do continue. |

Alright. You have my attention. |

About time someone actually put a concrete origin to paper...er, picture. I've had a headcannon swimming around forever, but never wrote it down. |

@Nebbie: However, Darwin would NOT approve of species being created that are on purposely created to be COMPLETELY USELESS TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND HUMANS. He discovered "survival of the fittest to a certain environment" and these guys are about to create something that isn't fit in ANY environment. |
