I think it could work with Nicholas Cage.

Well Nicholas Cage is practically a cartoon character so I guess he fits in well.

It's MLP. MLP is always popular.

It's Lauren Faust related. Everything Faust touches turns to gold.

Mmmmh well, MLP FiM with a 75% male characters won't be good or tolerable. Fluttershy and Rarity are 3 big "no, no" for males.

OH GOD Nic Cage as Applejack... that would be fantastic.

And Yogishy... OMC. This cast needs to be made into a tumblr or something.

Someone should write a fanfic where Applejack plays the role of Nicholas Cage's character in Lord of War. She illegally sells apple pies to the zebras so they can kill each other or something. I dunno how it will go but someone should make it happen.

I would trade Applejack in for Nicholas Cage.

And I love Applejack

The Azumanga Daioh pic is the smallest when in fact it could be the only one because it's ONLY THE FOUNDATION OF MODERN SLICE OF LIFE MANGA AND EVERY OTHER SOL SERIES ABOUT SCHOOLGIRLS BORROWS ELEMENTS FROM IT AND IT IS INFLUENTIAL AS FUCK AND I CAN FREAKIN' PROVE IT!

The analysis is probably interesting, but I'll read it later. I'm too mad right now...

This is a joke right?

I mean I'm all for female characters, (especially since girl representation in any media is nearly non-existent in the western world, and if not just plain dreadful) but I don't think the show would be crappy if the mane 6 were colts.

Lots of shows are male-centered but are still popular.

Slice-of-life comedy anime are filled with girls because they're being sold to men.

MLP is primarily aimed at little girls and Faust wanted parents to be able to watch it as well and not be bored.

Some correction should be made here:
Azumanga is more like foundation of modren slice-of-life 4koma than slice-of-life manga, which is already around for a long time.
And K-on is not that shit. I can see each series got their downside that is more than enough for haters to crap over.
Despite its flaw, K-ON is well adapted by a first-time female director THROUGHOUT TWO SEASON AND A MOVIE, It's not a every year occurance.

K-On is decent. It's the girliest of them, though.
Still, Azumanga is the best!

SOL manga and anime has been around for a very long time. The anime version of Sazae-san began in 1969 and it's still being produced!
Doraemon and Chibi Maruko-chan are also old and lasted for very long, and those three series are almost national treasures for Japan. I haven't watched or read Sazae-san, though. I don't think I will, either. I feel like I need another lifetime just for Doctor Who.
Anyway, nut no one is copying the formula of those series. At least not as notoriously and successfully as the series that follow the Azumanga formula.

Azumanga basically dictated what a comedy SOL series about schoolgirls is and after a while the industry just began to follow the formula mechanically.

Ichigo Mashimaro? Azumanga with lolis. Many of the same jokes, the interaction between some of the characters is almost identical (Miu is to Chika what Tomo is to Yomi), they even have the same dog. Random stuff happens and it's funny. No story.

Sketchbook? Azumanga with art. The teacher can't drive and is clumsy. Sora and Osaka could be sisters. Random stuff happens and it's funny. No story.

Joshi Kosei the manga differs a lot from the anime. The anime and manga have the same characters, but for the anime they shamelessly azumangaed them. It's Azumanga with ecchi. Random stuff happens and it's not very funny. They tried too hard.

Lucky Star is Azumanga with geeks and pop culture references. Konata is Tomo and annoys Kagami, who is Sakaki. Tsukaza is Osaka in almost every sense (they even share a joke. They repeat the name of something edible for no reason: sata andagi and balsamic vinegar) and the role of Chiyo is divided between Miyuki and Yutaka. Yutaka even introduced herself by making an Azumanga reference (Something like "even though I look like I'm 10 I didn't skip grades"). Oh, and the teacher is reckless and can't drive! Random stuff happens, it's funny, no story.

When Hidamari Sketch came out the ball was already rolling. It's also Azumanga with art, but at that point I don't think the author was taking ideas from Azumanga. She was just following the trend. Random stuff happens, it's funny, no story.

K-On!, same as above but with music instead of paintings.

The pattern is only broken when the cast is not entirely female (Minami-ke, Hyakko), but even then you can trace a lot of stuff back to Azumanga.

I could go on, but I know no one wants me to. The point is simply this:

Ahem!
Azumanga is the very model of all modern comedy, by which I mean the formula is here to stay eternally, forgetting that would be too bad and could let to a tragedy like thinking Lucky Star's original and not a parody. The ponies that we love take from the modern anime a lot, with simple stories focusing on the characters and what not, and at the end it's popular among adults, who could have thought that this cartoon for little kids we'd end up watching for the plot?

>Konata is Tomo and annoys Kagami, who is Sakaki
I meant Yomi, not Sakaki. The Sakaki of LS is Minami. They're identical except for the boobs thing: They're so shy people think they're cold and scary, but deep down they just wanna hug fluffy stuff and look at cute things all day long.

Also, I don't know why I randomly typed the word "nut".

Nuts are a good source of vitamin E, fibre, proteins and healthy oils, so yeah, I like nuts. I like to have nuts in my mouth.

And yeah... I kinda like to watch anime, read manga and comics and I love cartoons in general. There goes my reputation as the cool kid...

And one last correction: forgetting that would be too bad and could lead to a tragedy like thinking Lucky Star's original and not a parody
