Probably because Cadence was originally planned to be just a unicorn and then Hasbro wanted to sell more alicorn toys, so they made her an alicorn.

There is no evidence that either of them have any blood relation to Celestia. There may be different royal lineages, as evidenced by Rarity's character (Princess Platinum) from the Hearth's Warming Eve play. |

Everyone knows alicorns are the product of a rare recessive trait linked to the XX sex chromosome.

I like to think of Blueblood as Celestia's nephew by marriage/adoption (she either married his distant ancestor's sibling or was formally taken into his family, most likely to placate the royal unicorn family who were worried about being phased out when an immortal goddess took over rulership). Blueblood is a prince due to his relationship with Princess Platinum and the King of the Unicorns. |

In my headcanon, Cadence has the attributes of a unicorn and pegasus but not earth pony, while Blueblood has earth pony and unicorn but no pegasus Of course that is just wankery on my part |
